I have thoroughly enjoyed being a Realtor and never could have asked for a better career, but the time has come to call it quits.

With the cost of daycare being $2000+ dollars per month, gas at $4.00 per gallon, and fuel oil to heat our home around $400 per month... We have to say enough is enough.

I sincerely hope that someday the cost of living will come back down to earth, but until that day comes, I will be staying at home with our 4 children.

Mike is starting his own Plumbing company, and I am sure that together we will make it quite successful.

It is with hesitation that I use the following reference. As much as a Police officer hates to sit outside a donut shop, I dislike comparing our job to that of a car salesman. However, my experience and the results of my last car purchase got me thinking. There truly needs to be an honest, dedicated relationship between buyers and their Realtor, and I feel this process needs to be refined. We become your "personal assistant" so to speak during your transaction, and you wouldn't hire an assistant to work for you without interviewing them and following up with their references.

You see, a few years ago I drove on out to Anchorage. I knew I wanted a different car and so I went through different parking lots at different dealerships. Now most can probably agree with me… shopping for a car is not typically a great experience. I know I go in to it with a shield up immediately. We’ve been exposed to what they will say, how they will say it and how they will try to get you to buy that car you aren’t even sure you want or can afford. After a couple of hours I did find a car that I could see myself driving. I was honest with the young man and told him I would not be making a purchase at that very moment and if I was serious about the car, I would be bringing my boyfriend in to look at it. I asked if I could sit in it… then I asked if I could drive it. Without hesitation the salesman gathered the keys and we took a short drive. Now I’m assuming he was not a seasoned car salesman. He was too anxious to get me to buy that car and when I told him again I would not be purchasing it right then… he seemed deflated.

The next day my boyfriend and I journeyed back to that dealer and caught up with the young man again. I made sure he understood we were still looking at other cars, but we were interested in the one I had test driven. So we went through the rounds again and after Mikes test drive, told him we were going to go out and look at some other cars but we would let him know if we were coming back for “that one”.

Long story short… somehow we ended up at Mercedes. We weren’t serious about buying a luxury car. Not at all! (we have 4 kids LOL) And we never purchased a car from the other dealer. In fact I'm sure the salesman felt the same way many of us do when we have dedicated time to helping buyers, only to find out they used another Realtor to write an offer. This is how it went:

We told the salesman WHAT we wanted, HOW MUCH we wanted to pay, WHY we wanted to do it and WHEN we would be ready and WHAT we wanted for our SUV. Within 20 minutes I was holding the keys to my new car, and I kid you not I was in shock at what had just happened!!! HE listened to our wants and needs, HE didn’t try to get us to spend more and they didn’t try to give us less than we wanted AND he found us the car we wanted for the price we wanted to pay… I got hooked on their service, expertise and the fact that they listened to us! I refer them to all of my friends, and don't plan on using anyone else...

OK, I know this was a bit long, but here are my thoughts and the reason for my post:

Had I simply visited the salesmen in person, determined their character and our ability to work together early on, I could have saved 2 DAYS of shopping!

It is more important to interview Realtors BEFORE looking at homes! Determine who is going to listen to you, who has the follow up and who is the best choice for you!

This is a huge decision you are making! Find the Realtor that is going to make it a comfortable process!

You May Need A New Front Door If....

I thought I would write a quick little post as I wait for my car to warm up. (It's only been 30 minutes, I have about 10 more minutes to wait).

Here are some signs you need to replace your front door LOL:

First: You have to chisel ice from your dead-bolt just to get it unlocked, and you should probably NOT touch said lock, for fear that your fingers may freeze to the metal :-)

Second: It looks as though some alien fungus has crawled through the cracks and is invading your home. In fact it is ice! Creeping through the obviously broken seal in your door LOL

Third: Though the frosted window look is sometimes hip, it is NOT hip that it is REAL FROST

While I am making light of my situation here (after all it is almost 30 below zero at my home at this very moment), this moisture problem is real and should NOT be taken lightly. There are MANY issues that could/should be addressed here and please feel free to add info :-)

When you see ice building up as in my pictures, the humidity in your home needs to be addressed as well as the condition of your doors/windows.

If left as is you will start to see wood rot, mold and mildew, not to mention the lack of energy efficiency!

I am a beginner when it comes to HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), but using even the most basic tags can make your posts look intriguing! Scroll to the bottom for a better explanation :-)

So I decided to post this in hopes it will aid you in making your posts stand out!

You'll notice when you write your entries that you have a choice to use WYSIWYG or HTML.To enter your blog using HTML, you'll want to click the HTML tag prior to entering your text.

IF YOU'VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE, HERE ARE A FEW TIPS BEFORE YOU START:

If you don't use the proper tags/codes, your entry will run together and it will NOT look like you thought it would.
It is much easier (I have found) to pre-type your entry using something even as simple as "notepad", then all you have to do is copy and paste it.
It is EASY to get lost when typing HTML! (With all the codes floating around in your story or even your sentence, it can get confusing....
All codes begin with < and end with > and to stop a feature you will use </> Example: <center></center>
Practice makes near perfect LOL

So here are some basic codes to get you started:

To make words bold simply use at this point your words will be bold until you use

Text is Italic

<center></center>

To center an object or sentence <center> and </center> to end the justification

Will begin new paragraphs (ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TAGS IN MY OPINION)

Will start a new line but NOT make it a new paragraph

<h1></h1>

Code used to create a heading: h1 is the largest... you may also use h2,h3,h4,h5 and h6 (the smallest)

Will add superscript to your sentence

Will add subscript to your sentence

Will make you text smaller

<big></big>

Will make your text bigger

<a href="lastpage.htm">This text</a> is a link to a page on this Web site.

Will appear as This text is a link to a page on this Web site.

And last for now FONT COLOR :-)

Just choose your color and type away BUT REMEBER if you do not end it with it will carry throughout your entire blog entry and EVEN IN TO YOUR COMMENTS :-)
