"December 7, 1941. A date that will live in infamy"

Perhaps one of the most famous lines in American history, marking the day that Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese and a date which saw the united States enter World War II.

It is interesting to note that these famous words by President Franklin D. Roosevelt were a last minute change of mind as can be seen from the amended first draft courtesy of the National Archive which I reproduce here.

It is also interesting to think about the different America we lived in back then. The "don't mess with us" attitude that meant when we went to war, we did so to kick butt, to score a complete and total victory and to remind the world that we are not a nation to be trifled with.

Can you even in your wildest dreams imagine FDR standing before Congress and saying "we are going to war and we will be bringing the troops home in 18 months". It is such complete nonsense that he might not even have made it out of the building back then.

These days we have a President who thinks that particular military strategy is sound. What happened to us? How did we become this "PC-infested" shadow of THE United States of America?

I thought about not mentioning today's politics as I pay tribute to the men and women of our greatest generation. To the heroes who remain buried on board the USS Arizona (seen above on December 8, 1941), but I somehow think it is not possible to ignore.

Last week I posted a blog all about a 95-year-old Veteran called Harold Estes. Harold lives at the northern end of Peral Harbor and served this nation for 23 years. Harold had a few things to say to the President which I reproduced. So in the end, I felt if it was important enough for Harold, then it was important enough for me. Today I honor those who died in the Pearl Harbor attack. I honor those who died in the remaining years of World War Two and I honor those who have ever died defending and protecting our freedom to live in the greatest country the world has ever known.

THANK YOU!

Without you I would certainly not have been born. Without you the lights in Europe and the rest of the world would have gone dark as the planet endured pure satanic evil. Thank you and may God bless all of you.

To The President I have this - in the words of Harold Estes - "SHAPE UP OR SHIP OUT".

As we pause to remember Pearl Harbor Day, have you ever stopped to think about the difference in our generation and the one of our parents and grandparents that fought World War II?

When Pearl Harbor was attacked on Dec 7, 1941, thousands of Americans were killed and our nation was immediately united to do one thing-win the war. People sacrificed, food was rationed, household appliances and cars were hard to come by because all of our manufacturing capacity was quickly switched over to making airplanes and guns. Women went to work in the factories so men could go to war. That generation had been raised on the heels of the depression and knew how to sacrifice. They were committed to win the war, no matter what the cost.

After the World Trade Center Towers and our Pentagon were attacked on September 11, 2001 and thousands of Americans were killed, our country was united, but only for a short time. Once the initial shock wore off, we went back to our jobs and families and forgot that we are at war. Unlike the previous generation, we weren't raised to sacrifice. We were raised to want more and more material things, to play our video games, play sports, and not get involved. Now we are even going to bring the terrorists from 9-11 to our own soil and try them here with rights as if they were US Citizens. What's wrong with this picture?

Shouldn't we learn to be more like our parents and grandparents?

Last Week in Review

"HI HO, HI HO, IT'S OFF TO WORK WE GO!" And even those who have been feeling grumpy about the weak labor market found something to smile about last Friday. The official Jobs Report for November was released - and the improving numbers were a big surprise to the markets.

According to the Labor Department, only 11,000 jobs were lost in November, despite expectations of 125,000 jobs lost. As you can see from the chart below, this marks the least number of jobs lost in nearly two years - since December 2007. Adding to the favorable news, the Unemployment Rate improved to 10.0%, when expectations were for it to remain at the 10.2% level.

While the news was good for the economy and helped Stocks improve sharply, it wasn't so favorable for Bonds...and as a result, home loan rates moved slightly higher on the news, continuing their worsening trend for the week overall.

In other news, based on early numbers, 195 Million shoppers hit the stores and websites on Black Friday, which was up from last year's 172 Million. Cyber Monday - the online equivalent of Black Friday - also showed an increase in web shoppers, up by 6% from last year. It appears that the shopping traffic was up, but the dollars-per-shopper may be down a bit. This might be indicative of not only consumers being conservative...but also the fact that with all the deep sales taking place to incent buyers, fewer dollars may be spent to get the very same merchandise as a year ago.

Forecast for the Week

The week ahead starts out a bit sleepy in terms of economic reports, with no major releases due until Thursday when the Initial Jobless Claims report and the Balance of Trade report will both arrive.

Friday will bring another shot of economic news when the Retail Sales Report - the most-timely indicator of broad consumer spending patterns - is released. We'll also get a look at the Consumer Sentiment Index for an updated snapshot of how consumers are feeling about the economy.

In addition to these reports, the markets will be watching the latest round of Treasury auctions. This week's auctions include longer-term maturities such as 10-year Notes and 30-year Bonds that compete with Mortgage Backed Securities or Mortgage Bonds. So as we've been seeing of late, the auctions could cause some volatility, depending on how well they are received.

Remember: Weak economic news normally causes money to flow out of Stocks and into Bonds, helping Bonds and home loan rates improve, while strong economic news normally has the opposite result.

As you can see in the chart below, Mortgage Bonds hit a high for 2009 on November 27th, but traded lower last week due to financial news and a better-than-expected Jobs Report.

Budget-Friendly Decorating Tips

The holiday season is a costly time of year. There are gifts to buy, parties to prepare for, and any number of other miscellaneous expenses. One expense that can really add up is the money put toward holiday decorations. Here are some budget-friendly decorating tips that go easy on your wallet while also making your home look and feel beautiful.

The Nose Knows

We associate the holidays with certain scents. Pine, cinnamon, and cloves seem to top the list. If your family celebrates Christmas, you've most likely got the pine part covered with your fresh Christmas tree. If you don't celebrate Christmas, or if you're partial to an artificial tree, you can ask your local Christmas tree lot about the branches they've trimmed off of trees and have no use for. Freebees like these can be used to adorn mantles, decorate coffee tables, or may be tastefully strewn across a dining room table. They add a splash of color and a fresh pine scent without the presence of a tree.

Regarding the scent of either cinnamon or cloves, there are several ways to achieve it. Two of the easiest and least expensive methods are the use of potpourri and scented oils. Strategically place two or three such items around the house, and you'll be immediately transported into the holiday mode.

Lighting Is Everything

The good news is that achieving the proper holiday lighting doesn't require you to purchase any expensive fixtures. Instead, start with candles and lots of them. Candlesticks, votives, tea lights, and pillar candles all have the ability to create mood through incandescence. Candlelit dinners seem to look and taste better, and movie watching in a candlelit room adds ambience to the experience.

The bad news about candles is if you shop for them in the wrong place, you can rack up a hefty bill in no time at all. If you're thinking about burning a lot of candles this holiday season, it can easily turn into one of those unnecessary expenses. For an array of inexpensive candles, look no further than your local Ikea store. If that's not a possibility, simply log onto www.ikea.com and browse the nearly 100 different types of candles they have to offer.

Color, Color, Color

The holidays are all about color. If you celebrate Christmas, red, green, and white will serve as your color palate. If Hanukkah is your holiday, it's all about blue, silver, and white. And if Kwanzaa is your celebration, look no further than red, green, and black. If none of these options work for you, there are always fall colors like brown, orange, and yellow.

Whatever your color choice may be, it is important to incorporate it into every room. Tablecloths and cloth napkins can provide the color in your dining room. In terms of the living room, pillows and throw blankets can serve as your holiday color accents. Even holiday gifts awaiting their opening can be wrapped in the appropriate colored paper. In terms of the rest of your home, be creative. Just make sure to utilize the colors that represent whatever holiday you are celebrating.

The Sound of Music

Music is decoration for the ears. Most of us have some sort of holiday-themed music somewhere in our collection. If not, pick up 3 or 4 compilation CDs that illustrate the holiday you are celebrating or look for 24-hour holiday-themed music stations through your cable or satellite service. Play these (on a lower volume) whenever you have a gathering in your home, or simply feel like getting into the spirit of the season.

But don't stop there. Genres like soft jazz or classical music are also great to pipe into your living room during your gatherings. They add a soothing sophistication to any holiday event.

With just a little creativity, your home can look, smell, and sound just like you want it to this holiday season...without breaking the piggybank!

Today is a day I celebrate Life......

Today is my Birthday!

I would like to thank God for my life and for the many incredible people and blessings he has given me.

I wrote a blog a couple of months ago that I am reminded of today.

Why be Catholic? With all the corruption in the Catholic Church.........

In it I wrote about the fact that if it were not for the Catholic Church I would not be here today. You see both of my parents grew up Catholic and are very devout. That does not mean they are perfect or pious and those of you who know them can attest to that. As a matter of fact I don't ever remember them saying they were. They just tried to live life and be good parents and good Catholics. I told my Mom how blessed she was that after trying for a girl all those times and having boys she finally got her girl. Well she told me that it was not because they were trying for a girl that I was born, it was that the rhythm method did not work that time.

See that is how I know for sure I am a true gift from God. He planned it not my parents. Because they were faithful Catholics they saw my birth as that as well. A blessing from God. No matter how hard it was I was still a blessing.

For that I am forever grateful.

Kind of like Gianna Jensen says...."I'm his girl"

Moving on, in the Huggins home life was not always easy but my Mom and Dad had the faith and knowledge to know that they took a vow to each other and with Christ in the "Sacrament of Marriage" that through good times and bad, sickness and in health they would be together. That is the teaching of the Catholic Church and they lived it and still do to this day.

And after 50+ years this is the home they have built on earth.

So today I give praise and thanksgiving for my God and for my family. It is through my parents that I have been given life and taught to build my home here on earth.

My prayer is that through the Grace of God this "Catholic in Progress" will as the great theologian Denver Moore says..

"work my way toward home." I have no idea what religion Denver Moore is but what I know with all my heart and soul, just as I am "God's Girl" Mr. Moore is "God's Boy". Life is not easy but when we allow God to lead us we will find our way home.

Why do they need a secular culture to succeed?? Why did they need to infiltrate the Catholic Church to succeed??

For many years some in the Catholic Church have been teaching their flock to follow the dictates of their own conscience...

Read this blog "Democratic Dyslexic Disorder" a.k.a. "DDD" to see where I am coming from. Comment #16 will help you see what I mean.

But just as Rick Santorum stated on the Congressman Kennedy, Bishop Tobin conflict: "Simply put, the church has membership requirements. Kennedy is free to reject them. What he is not free to do is redefine them for himself and condemn the church for not accepting his definition."

Here is a post on the Kennedy Tobin conflict if you are not aware of it. So if you proclaim to be Catholic....Are you a Kennedy Catholic or are you a Stupak Catholic?

In addition and the key words here are "Well Formed Conscience"

Santorum on Catholic teaching and public policy: "Finally, the church maintains that there is a natural law that forms the basic moral foundation of society and that can be known through the exercise of reason. Thus, a Catholic public official with a well-formed conscience can arrive at correct moral conclusions not by faith, but by reason."

Where is it that one is suppose to receive their "Well Formed Conscience?" It is by their faith. Be it Catholic, Protestant or Jew.

That is what our religions give us. A well formed Conscience. And that my friend is exactly why they must take down religion in our Country to succeed.

It is not that the religious are trying to create a Theocracy it is that those who are hell bent on taking down America need the religious to not have a "well formed conscience."

HOW DARE YOU MR PRESIDENT?

Yes - I'm talking to you. That's still legal in this country for now. HOW DARE YOU? How dare you put one single American life at risk in a war you have no intention of winning? How dare you say in one sentence that it is in our "vital national interest" and in the very next sentence say but we are coming home in 18 months?

You've already told us you have a problem with the word "victory" and so now you are paying lip service to being a war time leader and you are using American lives for your personal politics. I repeat...

How dare you?

Maybe you've heard of one of this nation's greatest ever generals - General Douglas MacArthur - who famously said "In war there is no substitute for victory." Perhaps you feel you know better than him when it comes to military matters? Clearly you think you know better than the very general YOU YOURSELF appointed because you failed to deliver to him what he told you he needed.

But it is MacArthur I keep coming back to who also said "It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it." Did you ever attend a history class Mr President? Did they teach you these famous and oh so true comments by one of the greatest Americans to have ever lived?

His words should be permanently engraved on the walls of the Oval Office as you decide the fate of our brave men and women who go off to fight for freedom under a Commander in Chief who apparently has no idea what the mission is.

What is the mission Mr President? What is of "vital national interest" that will not be there in 18 months? Do you really believe that the Taliban will be defeated and the terrorist garbage who I refuse to give a name to, be driven from the land or better still, DEAD, when you can't even come up with the troop numbers YOUR GENERAL has begged and pleaded for?

And what happens if in 18 months time (hmmm...there might be a Presidential election underway here at that time, obviously that had NO BEARING whatsoever on your decision) if the Taliban are still there and if the terrorists are still there as well? Will you change your mind or will that be determined by how well you are doing in the polls?

It was perhaps the very worst speech you have ever given. Speaking as a writer it was so clear that there were sections of the speech where the teleprompter told you to "pause for applause" but there was no applause. Just uncomfortable silence.

There were numerous people falling asleep - ASLEEP - because they clearly didn't believe a word you were saying. They were in the presence of the President of the United States - in fact our first ever "rock star" President - and they were falling asleep!

Chris Matthews from your 'State run MSNBC' described your visit to West Point as entering the "enemy camp". Has any President in the history of this great nation been described in that way? When people who get "tingles" running down their legs when they think about you, to describe your visit in that fashion, it is perhaps time for you to wake up and understand the significance of the home you share with your family right now at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

"Vital national interest". Really Mr President? You were asked for 60,000. You were told 40,000 minimum and you gave 30,000 to support this "vital national interest". I am ashamed today. I am ashamed that we have a President who is either so dumb - which by the way I do not believe - or so self absorbed (which I do believe) that he is willing to place American lives on the line for (a) something he doesn't believe in and (b) so he can't be accused in some forthcoming election of being unable to make a decision.

Disgraceful! You clearly don't want victory in Afghanistan and so you MUST do the right thing.

BRING THEM HOME!

I still have hope that you will see the light. I have hope that you understand that this nation was born under the grace of God. I still have hope that you understand that this is still - despite your best efforts - the greatest nation in the history of the planet. I still have hope that you understand there is NO WAR WE CANNOT WIN if the will to win it exists.

If you see that light and understand what office you hold and want to crush the last breath out of every single Taliban and terrorist in Afghanistan, then send 60,000 with a seek and destroy mission. Better still - a seek and turn them into dust mission. Our brave men and women could well be home in 18 months if you chose that route.

CLIMATE HOAX - TEMP DATA DUMPED

On Friday of last week, I was hosting BHL on 540 WFLA and my guest was one of the world's leading authorities on the planet's climate - Lord Christopher Monckton - who apart from anything else, is the former Science Adviser to Margaret Thatcher's government.

One of the things we kept returning to was the now proven hoax of the whole Global Warming fiasco - a problem that could easily lead to the biggest tax bill in the planet's history in the form of Cap and Trade, and perhaps more importantly, the president going over to Copenhagen and signing a treaty that would cede United States sovereignty to an unelected world government body.

A whistle blower released more than 1,000 e-mails and more than 70 documents which prove that the data on temperature has been manipulated to prove a lie - that the planet is warming. The reality is that the planet is cooling.

And now today we find that the same scientists who wrote the 70 plus documents and exchanged the 1,000 plus e-mails, destroyed the very source data they say proved their point - making it impossible for anyone to check their so-called work.

The UK's Sunday Times reported the following: SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

The UEA's Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals - stored on paper and magnetic tape - were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building.

Look at this again - "The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted . . ." Adjusted? really?

The only truly shocking thing left is that despite the lies; despite the proof of manipulation; despite the fact that those who wish to literally take over the world have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar; despite all of that, the mainstream media continues to ignore what I really think is perhaps the biggest story of the 21st century so far and the President still intends to go to Copenhagen and sign away our freedom.

I was a journalist in various places around the world for a very long time. I am simply left wondering where the journalists are right now? CNN thought the most important story over the weekend after Tiger Woods, was the bad spelling on the menus at the gate crashed White House State Dinner!

Give me a break!!!!!

Christmas Crafts by Kristin

Some of you on AR may have seen my previous blogs about my sister Kristin. For those who have not, Kristin was born with Cerebral Palsy. Every day she wakes up and has to deal with her mental and physical disabilities, yet every day she is always happy and smiling. In many ways she has the mind of a child but in other ways she is just as bright as any other 39 year old lady. Kristin is also one of the funniest people I know. She is always coming off with some new saying or phrase. Her most recent one she is "Chow baby"..... instead of saying "good bye".

Kristin keeps herself busy doing a variety of crafts. She makes pot holders, shaws, and decorates Christmas Trees with shells which mom & I collect off our beaches. All of these items she sells to family and friends ..... Heck, even if I need a couple pot holders, I need to pay for them!!!! Kristin cuts NO slack, nor does she extend any credit.

To the right are a couple pictures of the Christmas Trees she decorates. These trees are roughly 19 inches tall and are extremely adorable. No animal were killed to make these trees as all the shells were "empty" when collected off the beach. (FYI ... it is illegal to keep or collect live shells off our beaches).

She really enjoys doing the crafts and gets a big excitement when something sells.

Anyone who knows me even in passing has a general Idead about my feelings on the murder of the unborn. Today is was reading through some sermons from Dr. Ray Pritchard from KeepBelievingMinistries.com and I came across this imaginary Diary of an unborn child. I found it very touching and wanted to share it.

Diary Of An Unborn Child

Our greatest problem with abortion is that we have a hard time seeing the unborn for what they are-real people being put to death. It helps if we understand that what is being aborted is not a fetus but a real person-a little girl with blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes or a little boy with freckles and a dimple. If only we could see the unborn as people just like us, we would know the truth about abortion.

This is called "Diary of an Unborn Child." It is imaginary, yet full of truth.

October 5 - Today my life began. My parents do not know it yet and I am as small as the seed of an apple. But I am really here. And I am glad to be a girl. I shall have blond hair and blue eyes. Just about everything is settled, even the fact that I shall love flowers.

October 19 - Some say I'm not a real person yet, that only my mother exists. But I am a real person, just as a small crumb of bread is truly bread. My mother is. And I am.

October 23 - My mouth is just beginning to open now. Just think, in a year or so I shall be laughing and later talking. I know what my first word will be: "Mama."

October 25 - My heart began to beat today all by itself. From now on it will gently beat for the rest of my life without ever stopping to rest.

November 2 - I am growing a bit every day. My arms and legs are beginning to take shape, but I have to wait a long time yet before I can hug my mommy and daddy.

November 12 - Now my fingers are beginning to grow. Funny how small they are. I'll be able to stroke my mother's hair with them.

November 20 - Today for the first time the doctor told mom that I am living under her heart. Oh, how happy she must be. Are you happy, Mom?

November 25 - My mom and dad are probably thinking about a name for me. But they don't even know that I am a little girl. I want to be called Kathy. I am getting so big already.

December 10 - My hair is growing. It is smooth and bright and shiny. I wonder what kind of hair mommy has.

December 13 - I am just about able to see. It is dark around me. When mom brings me into the world it will be full of sunshine and flowers. But what I want more than anything is to see my mom. Do I look like her? I hope so.

December 24 - I wonder if mom hears the whispering of my heart? Some children come into the world a little sick. But my heart is strong and healthy. It beats so evenly: tup-tup, tup-tup. You'll have a healthy daughter, Mom.

December 28 - Today my mother killed me.

PriceWaterhouseCooper released an independent study of the Senate Finance Committee version of the government takeover of health care bill. The study showed that American family's budgets will be severely impacted by the bill and that health insurance premiums will increase dramatically. Meeting heroes

Great story from my friend Simon!

Imagine you are 22 years old. You're still a kid really in so many ways. And then your country sends you off to a foreign land to fight for the freedom of those people and the people "back home". Imagine then that you are caught up in a fire fight and then get shot in the head.

Well you see I was at an event last Friday and Saturday. At the same hotel there was also a military banquet. I ended up with sore hands thanking everyone I met for their service to our great nation.

Late in the evening, I stepped outside for some air and there was this young man. He looked extremely young, but was in fact 25. That says more about me than it does about him! He was a sergeant in the Army and was in full dress uniform.

We got to chatting when I noticed an almost perfectly round - about the size of a nickel - circle of baldness towards the back of his head. I asked him if his buddies had played a shaving prank on him. "no", he said. "I was shot in the head" as he proceeded to show me the entry wound on the left side of his temple. The exit wound was the patch of baldness.

He told me he had undergone brain surgery and then I noticed the purple heart bar on his uniform standing proudly at the top of a whole host of other medals.

In some respects he is a lucky guy. He is perfectly normal with no impairment of his functions following his brain surgery. He has in fact been back to combat since his recovery and would go again.

He told me a lot of things in the hour we spent together. He told me about military members of other countries and how they joke with each other all the time "our Army is better than your army". And he also told me how all that stops and how they all come together and respect the traditions of either the religion or the country involved during what they call "angel flights". These are the flights that bring the bodies of our dead heroes back home.

We also talked about Fort Hood. I could see how angry he was about that. I asked him what made him the most angry about it and he said "the excuses". Take note apologists!

It was perhaps one of the most amazing hours of my life. I was honored to be in the presence of this young man and I hope he and I stay in touch. I was also struck by the sense of THIS is exactly the kind of person we want on the wall. Each generation produces more of them and the sacrifice they have all made for our freedom should never go without comment.

Health Care Update

Harry Reid is getting ready to unveil the Senate version of the health care bill, possibly as early as 5 PM today! Reid has been waiting to see how much the Congressional Budget Office says the Senate Health Care Bill will cost before he brings the bill to the floor of the Senate. If those numbers come out today, he might work to bring the bill to the floor this week.
To pass this health care disaster, Reid will need to end debate through a cloture motion. The cloture motion requires 60 votes. There are currently 60 Democrats in the Senate so we need at least 1 of them to vote no on cloture and all of the Republicans to vote no, as well.

If Harry Reid wins the vote for cloture, the health care bill will be a giant step closer to passing.

So what can you do right now?

The targeted Senators, which are listed below, are the same as they have been in recent weeks. The top 4 to focus on are: Sen. Bayh in Indiana, Sen. Nelson in Nebraska, Sen. Landrieu in Louisiana, and Sen. Lincoln in Arkansas. If you know people in these 4 states, tell them how important it is to call their Senators and demand they vote NO on government-run health care.

Fill out our Readiness Team Volunteer form. We are working to organize teams of volunteers in every single state who can quickly mobilize to speak to staff and/or protest at local Congressional and Senatorial district offices.

We are looking for people who can quickly go to DC when Congress tries to ram a bill through on short notice. Americans showing up in person at a Congressional office will be a great addition to the faxes, emails, and the phone calls your elected representatives receive .

After that I am contacting all the Moderate Democrats in the Senate and pointing out the revelation that if they vote for the Government take over of Health-care they will be on their knees praying for a job!!

We all have choices in life. We can chose to hate or choose to love. We can choose to speak out our choose to stay quiet.

Last week I had the opportunity to spend the evening with my daughter and watch the movie "Boy in the Striped Pajamas'"

My daughter had read the award-winning " novel by John Boyne and wanted to see the movie. This movie was hard to watch especially as a mother and was not a feel good movie in the least.

You can watch the entire movie "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas." It is not an easy one to watch but it is well worth your time.

Based on the Extraordinary True Story about Michael Oher

What struck me about these two movies is the different outcome of choosing hate verses choosing love compared to choosing love verses choosing hate.

As Rabbi Benjamin Blech stated "the cruelest lesson of the Holocaust was not man's capacity for inhumanity -- but the far more prevalent and dangerous capacity for indifference. There were millions who knew and did nothing. There were "good people" who watched -- as if passivity in the face of evil was sinless. If there is to be a moral we must exact from the Holocaust it is the "never again" that must henceforth be applied to our cowardice to intervene, our failure to react when evildoers rush in to fill the ethical vacuum.

The story of Micheal Oher is a perfect example of when good people do the right thing for the right reasons.

So what do I do if I am a Stupak Catholic and the Kennedy Catholics are in Power?

First and foremost you Pray for guidance for yourself and for God to continue to Bless America!!

Next you get to work by Questioning with Boldness, Hold to the Truth and SPEAK WITHOUT FEAR just as Pope John Paul ll did in Poland and just as Ronald Reagan did in front of Berlin's Brandenburg Gate.

Speaking of these two great men let's be inspired!!

Twenty years ago, on November 9, 1989, the most visible symbol of totalitarian evil, the Berlin Wall, tumbled down, how did that happen you may ask?

It was when men of great faith John Paul ll and Ronald Reagan came together in defense of freedom and human dignity.

As seen in the new film "Nine Days that Changed the World."

The Victory of the Cross "Everyone recalls that President Reagan, in front of Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, famously called upon Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall." But rarely does the media take note of the most important passage from Reagan's 1987 Berlin Wall speech, in which he described the "root of the matter" and the "fundamental distinction between East and West." Said Reagan: "The totalitarian world produces backwardness because it does such violence to the spirit, thwarting the human impulse to create, to enjoy, to worship."

Reagan then went on to ridicule how "[t]he totalitarian world finds even symbols of love and of worship an affront." He pointed to the frantic behavior of the Communist East German government to correct with paints and chemicals what they found to be a major flaw in the glass sphere of the massive communications towers they built in 1969. Reagan noted that these actions were to no avail, as "even today when the sun strikes that sphere--that sphere that towers over all Berlin--the light makes the sign of the cross."

On the same day, 220 miles away on the peninsula of Westerplatte, near Gdansk, Pope John Paul II was once again rallying his countrymen and women to a heroic defense of truth and human values amidst life under totalitarianism. In the very place where World War II began when a vastly outnumbered garrison of 182 Polish soldiers held out for a week against a surprise attack of 3,500 elite German troops, the Pope said to the young people assembled: "Each of you, my young friends, finds in life some personal 'Westerplatte.' Some measure of tasks that have to be undertaken and fulfilled. Some rightful cause for which one cannot avoid fighting. Some duty, necessity, which one cannot shun. One cannot desert. Finally--some order of truth and values, which must be held and defended, like this Westerplatte, within oneself and around oneself."

In a place remembered for Polish heroism, the Pope recalled the reflections of a Polish martyr of the concentration camps: "More horrifying than a defeat of arms is the defeat of the human spirit."

While June 1987 would ultimately prove to be the final stage of the Cold War, Reagan and the Pope had been stressing the primacy of the spiritual struggle against Communism since each took office. In his 1981 Notre Dame commencement address, four months into his presidency, Reagan issued this rallying cry: "For the West, for America, the time has come to dare to show to the world that our civilized ideas, our traditions, our values, are not--like the ideology and war machine of totalitarian societies--just a facade of strength. It is time for the world to know our intellectual and spiritual values are rooted in the source of all strength, a belief in a Supreme Being, and a law higher than our own."

In his "Evil Empire" speech in 1983, Reagan said, "I've always maintained that the struggle now going on for the world will never be decided by bombs or rockets, by armies or military might. The real crisis we face today is a spiritual one; at root, it is a test of moral will and faith. . . . I believe we shall rise to the challenge. . . . I believe this because the source of our strength in the quest for human freedom is not material, but spiritual. And because it knows no limitation, it must terrify and ultimately triumph over those who would enslave their fellow man."

From his election in October 1978, Pope John Paul II constantly preached that it was only through Jesus Christ that man could fully understand his great dignity and his future vocation and therefore no country had the right to exclude Christ from its history. When the Pope preached this message in June 1979 in Warsaw's Victory Square, on an altar with the backdrop of a 50-foot cross, one million of his fellow Poles responded in affirmation with 14 minutes of applause, interrupted by singing in one voice: Christus Vincit, Christus Regnat, Christus Imperat (Christ Conquers, Christ Reigns, Christ Governs). In an officially atheistic country, the Polish people dramatically bore witness that God was sovereign, not the state.Read the original article here...

My friends it is time for Stupak Catholics to unite with our fellow Christians and Jews and fight for Freedom in America.

Our Berlin Wall is calling and we must step up to the plate just as Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul ll did.

Here is where to start fighting for Freedom now.

What the Stupak Amendment has done is made Catholics sit up and pay attention. Now it is up to us to work with our Fellow Americans to defeat the Obama/Pelosi/Reed Saul Alinsky agenda.

An amazing thing has happened this week and if you are not aware it could just be what brings down the Obama/Pelosi health-care bill.

I often wonder what is the biggest threat to Obama and his Saul Alinsky agenda.

Why is it that he has surrounded himself with radicals and why are so many of them Catholic??

I am a Catholic and I could no more vote for many of these so called Catholics who are in such high power in our government, nor could I vote for the most far left pro-choice President in the United States.

Well it is truly amazing how God works and he is definitely working things out in our Great Country. I believe he is drawing a line in the sand for Catholics. Obama and his cronies have used the Catholic church to promote his agenda and we are one of the biggest threats to stopping that very agenda. If Catholics are faithful to the beliefs of the Catholic Church we must oppose the far left agenda.

What I find interesting is that Democrats want Catholic votes, want Catholic financial support but when Catholics question the Obama/Pelosi Saul Alinsky agenda they are threatened. Looks like Chicago style politics to me.

Case in Point......

"I expect political hardball on any legislation as important as the health care bill. I just didn't expect it from the United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Who elected them to Congress?

The role the bishops played in the pushing the Stupak amendment, which unfairly restricts access for low-income women to insurance coverage for abortions, was more than mere advocacy.

They seemed to dictate the finer points of the amendment, and managed to bully members of Congress to vote for added restrictions on a perfectly legal surgical procedure. "

Catholic Democrat, Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan's amendment, "which passed 240-194, would prohibit the use of federal funds to pay for most abortions, including barring abortion coverage from insurance plans which consumers who purchase on their own using government subsidies. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and other pro-life organizations had threatened to oppose any final bill that did not include such provisions."

If they do this to the Catholic Church, they will be doing it to the Protestant Churches and the Jewish churches who oppose Abortion. The message is clear... if you are a person of faith you have no say in Government. This is not what the Founding Fathers ever meant by "Separation of Church and State" but that is what many in Government are claiming it means now.

I must say I am so proud of the Bishops who are standing up and fighting and it is about time.

I especially applaud Bishop Thomas Tobin for the open letter to Rep. Patrick Kennedy about his stance on abortion.

The Kennedy's do not represent Catholics and they most certainly do not represent American beliefs!!

It will be interesting to see Congressman Kennedy's reaction to the Woolsey demand and the bishop's letter.

Here is what the letter said. If you are Catholic I would highly suggest that you read it, reread it and decide if you are a Kennedy Catholic or a Stupak Catholic. Your salvation is your choice. What do you choose.

Dear Congressman Kennedy:

"The fact that I disagree with the hierarchy on some issues does not make me any less of a Catholic." (Congressman Patrick Kennedy)

Since our recent correspondence has been rather public, I hope you don't mind if I share a few reflections about your practice of the faith in this public forum. I usually wouldn't do that - that is speak about someone's faith in a public setting - but in our well-documented exchange of letters about health care and abortion, it has emerged as an issue. I also share these words publicly with the thought that they might be instructive to other Catholics, including those in prominent positions of leadership.

For the moment I'd like to set aside the discussion of health care reform, as important and relevant as it is, and focus on one statement contained in your letter of October 29, 2009, in which you write, "The fact that I disagree with the hierarchy on some issues does not make me any less of a Catholic." That sentence certainly caught my attention and deserves a public response, lest it go unchallenged and lead others to believe it's true. And it raises an important question: What does it mean to be a Catholic?

"The fact that I disagree with the hierarchy on some issues does not make me any less of a Catholic." Well, in fact, Congressman, in a way it does. Although I wouldn't choose those particular words, when someone rejects the teachings of the Church, especially on a grave matter, a life-and-death issue like abortion, it certainly does diminish their ecclesial communion, their unity with the Church. This principle is based on the Sacred Scripture and Tradition of the Church and is made more explicit in recent documents.

For example, the "Code of Canon Law" says, "Lay persons are bound by an obligation and possess the right to acquire a knowledge of Christian doctrine adapted to their capacity and condition so that they can live in accord with that doctrine." (Canon 229, #1)

The "Catechism of the Catholic Church" says this: "Mindful of Christ's words to his apostles, ‘He who hears you, hears me,' the faithful receive with docility the teaching and directives that their pastors give them in different forms." (#87)

Or consider this statement of the Church: "It would be a mistake to confuse the proper autonomy exercised by Catholics in political life with the claim of a principle that prescinds from the moral and social teaching of the Church." (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, 2002)

There's lots of canonical and theological verbiage there, Congressman, but what it means is that if you don't accept the teachings of the Church your communion with the Church is flawed, or in your own words, makes you "less of a Catholic."

But let's get down to a more practical question; let's approach it this way: What does it mean, really, to be a Catholic? After all, being a Catholic has to mean something, right?

Well, in simple terms - and here I refer only to those more visible, structural elements of Church membership - being a Catholic means that you're part of a faith community that possesses a clearly defined authority and doctrine, obligations and expectations. It means that you believe and accept the teachings of the Church, especially on essential matters of faith and morals; that you belong to a local Catholic community, a parish; that you attend Mass on Sundays and receive the sacraments regularly; that you support the Church, personally, publicly, spiritually and financially.

Congressman, I'm not sure whether or not you fulfill the basic requirements of being a Catholic, so let me ask: Do you accept the teachings of the Church on essential matters of faith and morals, including our stance on abortion? Do you belong to a local Catholic community, a parish? Do you attend Mass on Sundays and receive the sacraments regularly? Do you support the Church, personally, publicly, spiritually and financially?

In your letter you say that you "embrace your faith." Terrific. But if you don't fulfill the basic requirements of membership, what is it exactly that makes you a Catholic? Your baptism as an infant? Your family ties? Your cultural heritage?

Your letter also says that your faith "acknowledges the existence of an imperfect humanity." Absolutely true. But in confronting your rejection of the Church's teaching, we're not dealing just with "an imperfect humanity" - as we do when we wrestle with sins such as anger, pride, greed, impurity or dishonesty. We all struggle with those things, and often fail.

Your rejection of the Church's teaching on abortion falls into a different category - it's a deliberate and obstinate act of the will; a conscious decision that you've re-affirmed on many occasions. Sorry, you can't chalk it up to an "imperfect humanity." Your position is unacceptable to the Church and scandalous to many of our members. It absolutely diminishes your communion with the Church.

Congressman Kennedy, I write these words not to embarrass you or to judge the state of your conscience or soul. That's ultimately between you and God. But your description of your relationship with the Church is now a matter of public record, and it needs to be challenged. I invite you, as your bishop and brother in Christ, to enter into a sincere process of discernment, conversion and repentance. It's not too late for you to repair your relationship with the Church, redeem your public image, and emerge as an authentic "profile in courage," especially by defending the sanctity of human life for all people, including unborn children. And if I can ever be of assistance as you travel the road of faith, I would be honored and happy to do so.
