The Australian Flag in Sandy Utah - 01/27/12 02:13 PM
The Australian Flag in Sandy Utah Yesterday ~ January 26th, Australia Day~ the Australian Flag flew at my place in Sandy Utah, where for every US holiday the "Stars and Stripes" has pride of place. My annual allowance of nostalgia in my Great American Adventure. My mates in Australia celebrated Australia Day by being seared on both sides in summer heat - I had a backdrop of snow on the beautiful Wasatch Front. Same celebration, different global perspective. In Utah, in the Salt Lake Valley, where I seem to be the only person without an accent, I could enjoy the songs (3 comments)
Bumping along in the Intermountain West From the Recent Earthquakes map from the US Seismic Service for Utah and Yellowstone Region(The Intermountain West) we have been the recipients of 43 events in the last week, with a heap occurring in the last day. The seismic events in this region occur mostly without many paying attention to them Most of these earthquakes have been in the micro range, yielding between 1.5 and 2.5. The patterns of events show them to the north and the south with me in the middle of the map. From past history, this area expects around (4 comments)
It's a DOG for Storm Mountain - 01/15/12 11:45 AM
It's a DOG for Storm Mountain Several hours of standing outdoors in a group on a winter Saturday morning in Utah can have a purpose. It's a DOG (Dutch Oven Gathering) put on by the Storm Mountain Chapter of IDOS (International Dutch Oven Society). Storm Mountain Chapter has it's official presence in Salt Lake and Utah Counties but has members from all over Utah. This group that promotes "Good Friends, Good Food, Good Fun" lives up to its motto. Saturday's gathering was no exception.
Among the many I got to talk to: Brian Blodgett - international competitor in IDOS events, (11 comments)
Technology Age Frustrations - 01/13/12 03:49 AM
Technology Age Frustrations Since the demise of Picasa on my computer, taking with it most of the intelligence and hiding all my photos under a grey veil, restoration has become a drawn out task fast approaching hobby status. Yesterday, I played with a program designed to scan my hard disk to determine whether any photos existed. A mere hour later the scan was well into its task; well, 59 minutes exactly. It then launched a screen to read the files extracted. Time remaining : 759,864,291 minute(s). Time not only for a hot drink but a shower and shave as well. An (7 comments)
A Tourist In My Own Town Winter chills outside, comforting warmth indoors. Century old architecture linking past and present, 66 ft murals that inspire. Paintings depicting pioneer past. Museums and information centers. Life size, and over life size, works of art. Shine. It's all in and around the 35 acres that are Temple Square in Salt Lake City. A place to visit. So-o much to see and record. No matter the time of the year, it is pristine and beautiful. With (3 comments)
Same city - different viewpoint - 01/10/12 08:36 PM
Same city - different viewpoint I make it a point to always have a camera with me so when I experience something new I am able to record it. Today, my challenge was to record the Salt Lake Temple and the Utah State Capitol from the one vantage point and to see them both in a new way. I normally roll around at ground level, so 26 floors up was certainly a change. Glass walls around the observation deck kept out some of the freezing cold but added a reflection problem to my photography. Tiny circles had been provided in a (6 comments)
Book Review: 5-Minute Mindset for Success Workbook by Bob Hoffman. Following his release of The 5-Minute Mindset for Weight Loss in late 2011, my broker, Bob Hoffman, is in print again with his The 5 Minute Mindset for Success Workbook. This is the practical application of The 5-Minute Mindset, how to record your progress in its application. It contains the steps in the system, examples of form recording and multiple sets of the necessary forms. Bob writes: Whether you want to make more money, start a business, be a successful salesperson, be more successful in your relationships, have a better (7 comments)
All the best It's a little strange having a Sunday back to itself again. Normal pursuits take over again after the celebratory holidays. of the past two weeks. Gratitude for all things past. Eager expectation of things to come The New Year is established with its promises of progress and change. I determine my limits by my activity and application. I feel good. I have purpose. NO LIMITS - NO EXCUSES. May 2012, for you, be everything you need it to be.
Hey, it's on again - 01/07/12 04:08 PM
Hey, it's on again After weeks of balmy, almost tropicality, wintery snow is falling in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah. We are white and cool once again in Sandy with our overnight and continuing falls. My truck is happy under it's little load of snow. Snow-blowers can now come out of garages and be put to use. Snow plows may even see some use after weeks of stealthy lurking. We have been dry. December (driest ever) with one tenth of one inch of precipitation (snow), instead of 20+ inches, and following a warm start to January, with 40s and 50s, (6 comments)
2012 - Already going like a train - 01/07/12 09:09 AM
2012 - Already going like a train Happy New Year to All I really have to be paying more attention. I slack off for a few days (not really - but it felt like it!) and whole weeks disappear. I have been reading my ActiveRain but not writing or commenting much. This has to change. (I see a New Year Resolution in there somewhere). Idleness really shows when AR friends call to see if I am still alive. I am still here ~ fitter, faster, leaner etc. I am entering 2012 with a plan. It is so-o influenced by all (8 comments)
