Running in Maui - the long run - 08/21/11 08:43 PM
Running in Maui gives you lots of options for your long run when you’re training for a half marathon, a marathon or just trying to get or stay in shape.  We, especially me, are trying to get back in step.  After a leg injury last year and then winding up in ICU for almost a week with a lung malfunction coming back has been a slow uphill run, even when I’m running at sea level on a perfectly flat course.
But after weeks of slogging, jogging, walking and aching, this week I started to feel like I could run again.  So, … (0 comments)

Video Tour of Honua Kai 626 - 08/16/11 02:22 PM
Yesterday I toured Honua Kai 626 in the Konea building

Now that I've learned how to ad video to my posts, I wanted to share my tour with you.
Honua Kai is a brand new direct ocean front complex.  Unit 626 is a large 2 bedroom condo with 2 master suites, a massive lanai (deck or patio for you mainlanders) and a nice view of the west Maui mountains.  You can't really see the ocean from here, but the beach is just downstairs and a few steps away and this is being offered at an amazing price.

Honua Kai Video Tour - 08/15/11 11:10 PM
Honua Kai is the newest and will be the last of the new oceanfront condo complexes here on Maui’s west side.  It’s the last because we’ve simply run out of oceanfront.
Honua Kai offers everything you could ask for in a world class resort.  It’s oceanfront on Maui, it’s large but doesn’t feel crowded, has fabulous pools, restaurants and nearby access to all that Maui holds.
For summer, the developer has lowered the price of certain units.  One of the best is #626 in the Konea building.  It is a large 2 bedroom villa, with a great lanai.  If you not … (3 comments)

Maui Long Run - 08/14/11 03:41 PM

Training for a half marathon on Maui is not too bad.  If you get out in the early morning the air is still cool.  The tourists haven’t hit Front Street yet, so it’s easy to maneuver as we lope down the sidewalk.  Just past the old Canoes restaurant we hit the Honoapiilani Highway for just a couple a hundred yards.

This little jog along the highway is the only place we have to deal with automobile traffic, but it’s also the place where we see Maui’s green sea turtles.  On our last run we counted 15 turtles … (3 comments)

We’re more than half way through the real estate year in Maui and what kind of trends are being reported?  According to the Maui News, based on information from the Maui MLS, single family home prices are down but sales are up. Condo sales are sales are down and prices are way down.

But if you think those numbers apply to your Maui neighborhood or your Maui condo complex you would probably be way off.  Get the facts from the Maui Real Estate Advisor.

Lemonade from lemons? - 08/10/11 09:47 PM
OK, so our guys in DC can’t seem to get it together and don’t act on the debt ceiling until the last minute.  Our stock market has more ups and downs than a Six Flags roller coaster and Europe is a mess.  Holy guacamole.
So, the FED meets and agrees to keep rates low for an unprecedented 2 years.  And, without missing a beat, every loan officer I know and a bunch that I don’t know has sent me email announcing “mortgage rates hit all time low!”

I love it when someone broadcasts good news, even if it’s broadcast emails.  … (3 comments)

3 things you must know before you buy a condo on Maui - Part 7 - 08/01/11 08:18 PM
 Do-it-yourself rental management in Maui
We know a handful of brave souls who are do-it-yourselfers.  Of course, in Hawaii, unless you are a resident, you can’t legally do-it-yourself.  You must have a representative, either a licensed real estate agent or employ a caretaker.  A caretaker is someone who is not licensed, but is hired as an employee to care for your property.  There are some companies that will agree to act as your management company to cover you legally and help you out in case of emergencies.
The other thing you have to have is a reliable housekeeping service.
