running: Running in Maui - training run - 09/11/11 11:10 AM
 
The running on Maui couple, Lee and Barbara Potts, virtually take you along through Lahaina, Lee must have been hungry, and out past Kaanapali Beach.

 
We are training for the Maui Half Marathon scheduled for September 18th.  We are both volunteering to tutor math for kids in the Lahaina schools.  The tutoring program is all volunteer and completely self funded. 
We would appreciate your help by supporting us with $1 (one dollar) per mile.  The half marathon is 13.1 miles.  You can make your check payable to People For Educational Equality and mail it to

Training for a half marathon on Maui is not too bad.  If you get out in the early morning the air is still cool.  The tourists haven’t hit Front Street yet, so it’s easy to maneuver as we lope down the sidewalk.  Just past the old Canoes restaurant we hit the Honoapiilani Highway for just a couple a hundred yards. 
 
 
This little jog along the highway is the only place we have to deal with automobile traffic, but it’s also the place where we see Maui’s green sea turtles.  On our last run we counted 15 turtles … (3 comments)

Mornings in Lahaina, Maui, are uncommonly cool in every sense.  Yes, it gets warm, OK, hot later in the day, but mornings are cool. 
Barb just left for her walk with Mihaela and sister Kathy at Kaanapali.  I've decided to take advantage of the cool morning and go for a run. 
I usually like to run in the afternoon.  I head out down Wainee Street, which is between Front Street and the Highway and parallels them both.  I start off at a fast walk to warm up.  I've reached an age at which my bones, joints and feet need to get … (2 comments)
