WAR - What Does It Solve?

Last night we watched the movie "Pearl Harbor" starring a host of actors including Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale and Cuba Gooding Jr. Most of us will never know how real the movie protrayed this awful event that took place at Pearl Harbor 68 years plus a day ago. Leaving over 2,400 dead and hundreds and hundreds wounded.

What is war all about... POWER, MONEY and RELIGION.

Wouldn't it be nice if for just once there was no fighting going on anywhere on the planet. We all treated each other according to the "Golden Rule", helped each other and shared with each other.

If we took all the money being spent on war and directed it to the problems of the world, there is nothing that can not be solved.

Yet, POWER, MONEY and RELIGION rule. The leaders of the world all think their way is right.

Here's to all the men, women and children that have given their life for the greed of others.

Yesterday Starbuck's put on an event that 143 Countries participated in, have a listen.

A Little Walk At the Port of Orillia, in Orillia Ontario on a frosty December day.

Officially it is still FALL. We took a walk on Saturday along the boardwalk at thePort of Orillia and everywhere we looked, everything was hunkering down, awaiting old man WINTER. There were only two boats still tied up at the docks. The kids train station and French's hamburger stand were locked up for the season.

A few Canada Geese were still hanging around, and of course a dock full of Seagulls. If we were Seagulls we would definitely be in flight towards our new permanent home in Florida.

Samuel de Champlain overlooksLake Couchiching, frozen in time. It was just 394 years ago he was frollicking around right here with the local Indians.

Even Orillia's Island Princess has sailed her last tour for 2009 and awaits 2010 in the chilly waters.

It's a little errie, only a couple of people out walking their dogs where hundreds are usually enjoying the lovely waterfront.

Oh well, the way time is travelling, it will be SPRING again be for we know it.

Do You Say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

Christians around the world have been celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ for over 2000 years now. The day set for celebrating is December 25th. Usually starting around the first of December people would say their goodbyes with a Merry Christmas.

In recent years someone thought it unfair for other religions to say Merry Christmas and thought that everyone should be included and that Happy Holidays would be more appropriate.

Personally we still believe that Merry Christmas is a reminder of Christ's birth and it should stay like that.

All other religions have their special days of celebration and have not to our knowledge included the Christians in their celebrations.

We have no bones to pick with any other religions. Be part of our celebrations on December 25th if you wish, but don't try to change a tradition that has been going on for thousands of years.

Let's start a new day of celebration and festivities, how about sometime in March. We can all greet each other with "Happy Holidays".

IT'S BEEN ALMOST 72 YEARS AND WE'RE HOPING IT LASTS EVEN LONGER...

It's been almost 72 years and we're hoping it lasts even longer. No we are not talking about the losing streak the Toronto Maple Leaf hockey club has been on, it hasn't been that long for them yet and we want that streak to end.

We are talking about snowfalls in Toronto! Yes, we have been enjoying somewhat of balmy temperatures for this area at this time of year. What we didn't realize though was while we are enjoying this weather, we are on our way to breaking the 72 year old record of, drum roll here please, of NO SNOW IN NOVEMBER in Toronto!

Yes, we are shouting and yes, we are happy. Just a few more days to go and the record will be broken. It looks like Mother Nature will be co-operating because there is no snow in the weather forecast.

The City ploughs are ready, the salt & sand are piled high, the anti-freeze is stocked at the gas stations ready for the inevitable winter wonderland, but for every day it is delayed the shorter the season is and yes, we all would be happy about that.

We know this was a toughy, but if it is to easy and the first guy gets it... where's the fun.

We had some good guesses, even some pretty close ones.

So, this is what you were trying to figure out what exactly the picture was showing.

This is where the operator was stationed to operate the above picture.

Well here it is...

This bridge was able to rotate in one direction to allow cars to cross and as it showsc in the picture to allow for boat traffic to pass by. In the 1990's the bridge and the bridge operator were both retired to make way for a new modern overpass which allowed boat traffic to pass under.

The bridges both spanned over what is know as the Atherley Narrows which connects two bodies of water Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching.

What countries are the worst at registering children?

We have six questions for you, just how versed are you with your facts and figures?

Number 1 - 6 in your comment and beside type the number that corresponds with the question, kinda like fill in the blanks.

A local camera store sponsored a "Photo Contest" and the prize was a brand new top of the line SLR Digital Camera.

The rules were simple. Take your best shot, it could be anything you wanted, but it could not be manipulated in any way. It was to be submitted in print format and not larger than an 8" x 10". Your entry must be brought into the store and submitted in person no later than the following Friday at close of business at 9:00 pm.

The store received about 200 entries by the close of business that Friday evening. However, first thing Saturday morning a older gentlemen came into the camera store all smiles and looking very excited. He asked to speak to the store Manager.

He went on to say to the Manager that he had spent the whole day last Saturday out looking for that great picture so he could have a chance at winning that new camera. I think I found it, I printed up last Sunday. I new I had to have it in last night to qualify, but I got busy and just couldn't make it. So, I thought I would come into the store anyway and see if you would be so kind and let me enter my picture.

Well, the store Manager accepted the older gentelmen's picture and low and behold the old guy won.

SO IT'S FRIDAY THE 13TH TOMORROW OR TODAY, DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU ARE READING THIS.

Are you nervous, or do you just think it is another silly superstition? What started all this about Friday the 13th anyway? There are superstitions about Fridays and there are superstitions about the 13th, but when they fall on the SAME day, lookout, some think that just made it one super unlucky day. Did you know many people refuse to go to work that day even refusing to step out of bed?

Numerologists consider 12 a "complete" number. There are 12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, and 12 apostles of Jesus. In exceeding 12 by 1, 13's association with bad luck has to do with just being more than completeness.

How is fear of the number thirteen demonstrated? Just look at the fact that 80 percent of high-rises don't have a 13th floor (well acknowledge one), many airports skip the 13th gate, airplanes don't have an aisle 13, hospitals and hotels usually don't have a room number 13, Italians omit the number 13 from their national lottery, many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue and the 13th card in Tarot cards means death.

Some people who fear this number point to the tragedy of Apollo 13 (it was the 13th mission) and also say if you have 13 letters in your name, you will have bad luck. Just look at the number of letters in Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo. Many people planning parties and weddings do not schedule them on a Friday if it is the 13th.

So we ask you, are you bothered by the date or is Friday the 13th a very lucky day for you?? I know it is for my brother, he was born on a Friday the 13th!
