Do You Know What This Is?

If you answered a "hydro meter", you were partly right. What the picture is, is actually a brand new SMART METER, that was installed at our house yesterday.  Not just any old hydro meter, let us tell you.The old meters could only measure the amount of electricity being used over an entire billing period.  The new Smart Meter will record the total electricity consumption hour by hour.  And it is capable of sending that information wirelessly to the utility company.  This new meter makes time-of-use pricing possible. They say by the end of 2010 that … (13 comments)

al and peggy cunningham: You Don't Have To Finish First To Be A Winner, C3 Brampton Event - 10/28/09 01:32 AM
You don't have to finish first to be a winner.  Recently Brampton's 53 year old Hans Porten finished third overall and top master in the Kinetico 10-Mile Running Race, organized by C3 Canadian Cross-Training Club.  He loves to win, but the real winner was the 1,008 kids that participated in the events.  The events attracted only 500 kids last year which with the help and support of the many other sporting groups doubled in just one year. A big thank you goes out to Kinetico and Riverdale Fitness Mill that supplied T-shirts, medals and post-race food to the participants.  An elite … (6 comments)

al and peggy cunningham: Found The Solutions... - 10/27/09 04:42 AM
Hello Active Rainers, Earlier today we were crying to you about the cost of gas that doesn't seem to cost the same in the US.  Although the gas in the US varied about 25-30¢ from the Canadian border down to South Carolina. We think we have found the solution.  However, there is a learning curve and we thought we should share it with you, just in case your Government decides to follow suit and change the sale of gas by the litre rather than by the gallon. How To Use Hand Signals on a Bicycle on Howcast Only problem, need to figure … (17 comments)

al and peggy cunningham: Getting Hosed Again - 10/27/09 02:06 AM
Good Morning Active Rain, Well, they are at it again.  Over the past month or so we have been getting our gas in the range of 85¢ for a litre of regular gas.  Yesterday they were back just over $1.00 for a litre. We know, what's a litre?  A litre is a way to get more money out of your pocket.  We used to buy our gas by the gallon.  Now there is about 4 litres in a gallon which would calculate to $4.00 per gallon.

Doesn't $1 sound better than $4, hence the change to litres.  They think we … (24 comments)

Did You See This... Did You Know
Take the time to watch this video, even if you seen it before.  Also, remember it was done sometime in 2008 and all the facts that it is stating are probably obsolete.  Most of the numbers are probably bigger.
It is hard to believe if in fact it is true.

What did you think?  Can it be true?

al and peggy cunningham: Friday Foto Standing On My Head - 10/22/09 03:01 PM
Good Morning Our Active Rain Friends, Just the other day, Wordless Wednesday to be exact, we introduced you to a fine feathered friend that turns out to be one of the Greenest birds we know.  When we secured it's picture that was used last Wednesday, it also wanted to pose for a shot to be distributed on Friday Foto Day but insisted that the photo be in place at such a time to be available for viewing at the stroke of Friday Foto Day.  It always believed the theory that the early bird did in fact get the worm.

al and peggy cunningham: IT WAS A SIMPLE CASE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE - 10/22/09 12:53 AM
IT WAS A SIMPLE CASE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE or actually a lack thereof.Last week we posted about our technology challenged week, so we went out in search of help. Our search led us right into Best Buy and over to the Geek Squad.   A techie guy comes out, boots the machine, scans the info all the while chewing on his nails and eyeballing the store activity.   He gives us his diagnosis in two words without looking up “not working”.    Ahh, no fooling, we think, that’s why we are here!  He then states for around three hundred dollars he can give it … (18 comments)

al and peggy cunningham: Wordless Wednesay Almost - 10/21/09 12:30 AM
Happy Good Wordless Wednesday Morning, Not sure about you, but is time flying by?  Today being the 21st means that we have seen a month of Fall pass by.  While we are on the subject of time, you have a little over 60 days until Santa comes. Okay, back to Wordless Wednesday, we will try to keep it as wordless as we can. Think of a couple of birds that you like, you know an Eagle, a Blue Jay, a Mockingbird.  Now think of a few that don't make your list. We took a shot of this little guy the other … (28 comments)

al and peggy cunningham: DO YOU KNOW YOU HOLD THE POWER? - 10/18/09 03:31 PM
 THE POWER OF FLOWERS
An old Chinese proverb reminds us that if we have only two pennies, spend one on a loaf of bread and the other on a lily. You know those old Chinese proverbs, they are indeed, very, very, very old, two pennies? Never mind the cost, the message still applies.
Food keeps us alive it is true, but flowers have the capacity to keep beauty, hope and love going strong. Why then do we only buy them on special occasions, weddings and funerals?
Flowers can brighten an otherwise dull day, (both weather wise & mentally), they instantly bring … (5 comments)

al and peggy cunningham: There Aren't Many Days Left Like Today Around Here - 10/18/09 12:14 PM
There Aren't Many Days Left Like Today Around Here
Wasn't it a beautiful day today?  We drove into Orillia, Ontario and went for a walk in Couchiching Park and enjoyed the sun and the warm weather.  The sky was blue and the water was calm.
People were walking hand in hand, some with their dogs and some with their childern.  Isn't it funny how the nice weather gets people out.
We took a few pictures and wanted to share them with you.

Hope you liked the little walk you took with us, we enjoyed … (10 comments)

Fall Doesn't Last Long... It's Beauty Captured Forever
It is always sad when Labour Day comes around, a couple of weeks later Fall makes it's official appearance.  The nights and days start to get cooler, a quick frost and the trees start turning it's leaves into a photographer's delight.
Lonely but at the same time inviting to take a stroll.  Don't wait it won't look like this next week.

Enjoy...

al and peggy cunningham: Where Did Thanksgiving Originate? - 10/11/09 03:23 AM
Gobble, Gobble means Happy Thanksgiving Day!
Time to give thanks for all that you have, whether you live in Canada or the United States, we are very fortunate. This is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada.  Our Canadian Thanksgiving is held the second Monday in October, earlier than our American friend's Thanksgiving, which falls in November.
Some people believe this is because Canada, being farther north, has an earlier harvest.  Whatever the reason deciding to have Thanksgiving in October when the weather is still warm enough for us Canadians to enjoy the outdoors was a great idea!

What Do You … (15 comments)

al and peggy cunningham: What Is That Referee Doing? - 10/07/09 12:57 AM
What Is That Referee Doing? Have you ever watched a game of football and saw the Referee standing in the middle of the field making all kinds of hand and arm signals?
You missed the play and are wondering what happened.
The Ref is waving his arms around, is he cold or just bored?
Now you can learn just what all those movements mean.
In under three minutes you will become an expert at reading and understanding exactly what the Ref is saying.

al and peggy cunningham: So You Think Your Cost of Living Is High! - 09/30/09 01:01 AM
So You Think Your Cost Of Living Is High!   Ahh, so do you think your cost of living is high? Do you have more month at the end of your paycheque?  Well don't feel bad.  How would you like to live in the true white north, right up there in Nunavut in the Arctic?   A little hamlet Gjoa Haven was named in thanks for safe harbour by a Norwegian Roald Amundsen where he stopped to wait out the lethal winter, some 106 years ago.   Well, if you live up in Nuanvut, you know all about the high cost of living.  … (13 comments)

What Is Your Favorite Old Car? Guess Before You Look!
We were just going through a few pictures we had picked up over the Summer.  Yes Summer as short as it may have been.
We came across some photos that we took at the Orillia car show, and guess what one car stood our the most.

Have you ever gone to a car show and not seen a 1957 Chey, looks sharp in this orange colour but if you were to close your eyes and picture the car it would probable be in a turquoise blue colour.

al and peggy cunningham: The Dragons Boat Race Festival in Orillia, Ontario... Grab Your Paddle! - 09/27/09 05:18 AM
The theme of a Dragon Boat Race Festival is a simple and solemn one: Teamwork and Unity.  This 2400-year-old Chinese tradition has become one of Canada's fastest growing sports. Communities across Canada have been getting together for several years now during the summer months to bring a Dragon Boat Race Festival to their residents.  Yesterday, the City of Orillia sponsored their fourth Dragon Boat Race Festival.

This is a fun time for everyone, the spectators especially the kids were yelling to their favorite team as they approached the finish line.  The friendly yet competitive atmosphere for the participants matched … (11 comments)
