Sooo….there doesn’t look to be a whole lot going on right now. However, that ma be because one of my main sources hasn’t updated their event list since last Friday. Since most of the places that feature live music are not open early, I am desperately trying to find out what is going on before I post this blog in the mornings. If you know of another source, please let me know!

Underwood-Petersville Community Center All You Can Eat First Saturday Breakfast. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, biscuits, pancakes, chocolate gravy, sausage gravy, orange juice, regular and de-caf coffee. Adult plates are $5. Children age 12 and under $3. If you are interested in getting involved in community service, the Tuscumbia Civitan Club meets every Thursday at noon at the Helen Keller Public Library. They have lunch and a guest speaker each week.  Throughout the year, they do fundraisers to contribute to a variety of service organizations. The Handy Festival may be over, but you can still catch a couple of exhibits if you were too busy to get by to see them last week.
Kenneday-Douglass Center for the Arts still has the Mostly Blues Art Exhibit through Friday. To set the mood for the W.C. Handy Music Festival, area artists create paintings, drawings and sculptures with a musical flair. The Center’s hours are  9 a.m. – 4 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Another year of the W.C. Handy Music Festival is winding down. Here is a link to today’s schedule, but it is fairly light. 
According to one source I’ve seen, On the Rocks is scheduled to have live music tonight, but I don’t know who is supposed to be playing.
I think most people today are at home trying to recover from the week-long area-wide party that just happened! BUT, if you are still trying to find something to do, there are still plenty of other interesting things that don’t require a schedule or planning.

Handy Fest is almost over for another year, but today is still a big day! The Street Strut is always fun to watch, and if you like being on the river, there’s a concert with boat access only this afternoon. Here’s a link to today’s full schedule. Don’t forget about the headliner concert tonight at Norton Auditorium, featuring the hometown boys The Drive-by Truckers for the first time at the festival.

Ok, I know its probably wrong, but I have been overcome by the Handy Festival now myself!
As the event coordinator for Handy on the Plaza, I just spent my day (starting before 8 am) outside on the Plaza, getting the event set up and making sure the first day ran smooth. I am a little sunburned and a LOT tired! Things went well, though, once it was up and running...looking forward to tomorrow's event (the second day is always easier!).

It seems that Handy Fest has truly taken over the Shoals! I could hardly find any events that aren’t part of the Handy festival. Here’s a link to today’s events.
Billy Reid in downtown Florence is having Jay Burgess from 11:30 am – 1 pm today at his downtown store. They also have a display of never before seen photographs by Dick Cooper of various recording artists at FAME and SOUND studios. Pretty cool, huh?
Hannah Aldridge is playing at The Trojan House from 7-9 pm in Muscle Shoals.

And HandyFest marches on…here is today’s schedule.  There are 25 different events today, PLUS 17 venues sponsoring Handy Nights tonight. I guarantee there is something you will enjoy doing, whether it takes place inside or outside! You can also go by the Kennedy-Douglass Art Center to pick your 30th Anniversary Handy T-shirts and other memorabilia.

Art Works, an annual exhibition of work by the Tennessee Valley Art Association artist members, is at the Tennessee Valley Art Museum in Tuscumbia right now. Audiences may expect to see two and three dimensional works in watercolor, oil, acrylic, clay, metal, fiber, glass and more. The exhibition illustrates a vast range of art media by the multi-talented artists from the northwest Alabama region. Weekends start early around here. At 5 am, you can enjoy coffee and donuts (sponsored by Folgers) as anglers for the Wal-Mart FLW Tour Major take off at McFarland Park. This morning at 10:30 am, the library has a 2 hour class on Internet Searching 2. You have to preregister, so give them a call before you go. Also at 10:30, is Story Time for babies through pre-schoolers.
McGraw’s Coffee House is continuing their live lunchtime music series today with Kate Tayler Hunt and Kimi Samson. They start at noon and of course, admission is free. They would be really happy if you bought lunch while you were there, though!

Aqua Zumba is Latin Dance and aquatic aerobics in the pool.  Classes are currently being offered at Royal Ave and Handy Rec pools with instructor Angela Vanderford. Royal Ave. Classes are Tuesday at 10:15am and Wednesday at 5:45pm.  Handy Pool classes are Wednesday and Friday at 9am.
