The Odds Are Against Me This Halloween.... - 10/31/10 06:41 AM
The Odds Are Against Me This Halloween.... I love Halloween, my entire family does. Decorating, Carving Pumpkins, Caramel Apples, Costumes...What's Not to Love? My parents, inlaws, my sister and her family, and many friends get together every year for dinner and then we head off with the kids for Trick-or-treating. We set up a table in one driveway, and everyone adds their big bowl of treats to the mix. There is always the major decision...Who stays at the house to pass out the candy? This year, I won a contest. All I

Haunted House on the Hill, Beaufort, North Carolina - 10/27/10 07:57 PM
Haunted House on the Hill, Beaufort, North Carolina The "Hammock House" is dated as being built in 1709 (but may have been built as early as 1700) and is the oldest house in Beaufort, North Carolina. In it's earliest years, it was referred to as "The White House" on area maps, but was later named the "Hammock House" for it's location on a hill or "Hummock". When the house was first built, the waters from Taylor's Creek were close enough that small boats would often be seen tied to the front porch. Over the years, the waters have

Doing Dishes Never Seemed So Good... - 10/27/10 07:22 AM
Doing Dishes Never Seemed So Good... After a quick challenge of "Rock, Paper, Scissors" last night, I was stuck with the dishes! Tired and grumpy, I dragged myself to the kitchen to perform the dreaded task of "The Dishes". The glow from the window over the sink drew me in and the dishes didn't seem like such a terrible task afterall. Loading the dishwasher and cleaning the sink went by way too quickly and I found myself staring out the window in Awe! What a beautiful World we live in! Here's to a wonderful day!

Going Green & Saving Green...Amy's Green Tip #3 I absolutely love books. I love to read them (when time allows), I love the way they smell, I love the way they look on my bookshelves, I just love books. I have always had a hard time getting rid of books...Until I found out about the The BookShop in Morehead City, North Carolina. What does a book store have to do with going green? Well, at The BookShop in Morehead City, you take your old books in and they give you credit for them. Then, you can use your credit to

Rubbermade Avalanche... - 10/18/10 05:47 AM
Rubbermade Avalanche... Yesterday, my husband dragged out the slow cooker and put together a huge pot of Chili...just one more reason why I love the Fall & the cooler weather! After dinner, I went to the kitchen to put away the leftovers. I opened the cabinet door to the rubbermade and...an avalanche of mismatched pieces came tumbling down onto my feet! First of all...I thought, Why would anyone have this much rubbermade? I mean, Seriously!? Second of all...How can someone as organized as I am, have this type of mess in one of their cabinets? I can't

Well Folks...Time is almost up! If you want to participate in the contest, “Proof that I can blog about anything!” All posts must be “time-stamped” by midnight October 18th. Good Luck and have fun with this one! Via Charles Buell, Seattle, WA, Home Inspector (Charles Buell Inspections.com): People have often commented on my posts, “You can blog about anything!” I think I got a comment like that once when I blogged about my favorite coffee cup. When I get these comments I am never sure whether that is a compliment or a criticism----but given the number of comments they generate

We Have the Best Neighbors.... - 10/16/10 07:28 AM
We have the best Neighbors.... My office just happens to be right next door to the Pine Knoll Shores Fire/EMS/Police Emergency Team. We are often the first to know about a fire, a car accident, etc. as they rush out of the parking lot with the sound of sirens filling the air. Yesterday, as I left the office, tired & grumpy, I looked up to see our local heroes training and running drills and it was a beautiful sight! At that moment, Our Local Heroes touched my heart and didn't even know it! I wonder if they have

If You Love Oysters...It's a WooHoo Kind of Day! - 10/15/10 01:53 PM
If You Love Oysters...It's a WooHoo Kind of Day! I do not eat seafood, especially Oysters, but I am proud to remind everyone that today, October 15, 2010......Oyster Season Begins on the Crystal Coast! Since I do not eat them, I can't tell you how to cook an oyster, but I can tell you how important it is to recycle your oyster shells. The North Carolina Oyster Shell Recycling program is very important to the Oyster Population. The program collects oyster shells from businesses and individuals and places them back in the water. Baby oysters, who start out

Would you know me if you passed me on the Street? - 10/12/10 07:08 PM
Would you know me if you passed me on the Street? I hear agents talk about changing the photo on their business cards...All the time! I totally agree that your photo should look like you! Especially now, with social media playing such an important role in our businesses. I recently attended the North Carolina Association of REALTORS Convention where I met several people in "real life" that I had already gotten to know through ActiveRain and Facebook. As I was leaving one of the many Education Sessions, There was a woman waiting in the back of the room for me...Who

Going Green & Saving Green...Amy's Green Tip #2 - 10/10/10 07:16 PM
Going Green & Saving Green...Amy's Green Tip #2 I don't know about you, but My family goes through a lot of T-shirts! Tanner seems to grow out of a shirt after about an hour, and those that aren't too small are often ruined with stains (He's five years old, and all Boy). I love white t-shirts, but they never seem to stay "White" as long as I would like for them to (I still believe that I am graceful enough to drink coffee while driving). I have a few different ways to reuse the many old T-shirts in my house!

Going Green & Saving Green...Amy's Green Tip #1 - 10/10/10 09:42 AM
Going Green & Saving Green...Amy's Green Tip #1 I know it is only October, but this is the time of year that I start getting ready for Christmas. One of my favorite things about Christmas is making homemade gifts, and thinking of Creative ways to wrap those presents! I don't consider myself a "Tree Hugger", but I do care about our planet and try to do my part in the world of Recycling! Tis' the season for me to start collecting boxes for wrapping. Not only do I save a small fortune in gift boxes & recycle tons of cardboard,

Via Marian Goetzinger Crystal Coast Real Estate NC (Pine Knoll Shores Realty 252-422-9000): A letter to my family and friends about real estate referrals Last night I was at a cocktail party when a church friend sat down next to me and said; "Marian, we just listed our house with another agent and I wanted to tell you why. So, My Baby Wants to be a Fireman When He grows up..... Yesterday, My five year old's Kindergarten class had the pleasure of going on a field trip to the Atlantic Beach Fire Department. You see, This week is National Fire Safety Week and The teachers and staff of Morehead City Primary School have been focusing on Fire Safety all week. It works out great for Tanner (my five year old), because he wants to be a fireman when he grows up. The team at the Atlantic Beach Fire Department is AWESOME! It was so obvious that

Finding Just the Right Toothpaste! - 10/06/10 07:01 AM
Finding Just the Right Toothpaste! When I open the door to my bathroom cabinet, I find bags under the sink...I love bags! Everything that will fit, goes in a bag or sometimes a basket. If you will look in the bag to the left, you will see toothpaste. Why does my family have 3 different tubes of toothpaste? Well... We all prefer different types and as the "Mom", it was my job to find the right paste for each family member. My five year old prefers Kid's Crest which tastes like bubblegum (gross), and my husband prefers anything

What do 12" of rain mean to your Septic Field? - 10/01/10 06:05 AM
What do 12" of rain mean to your septic field? I can tell you what it means to mine. When we first bought our house in 2005, the day after closing we received 7 glorious inches of rain. That's how we found the leaks in the roof, in looking at the roof we discovered that the wood siding was also rotting and damaged, and then we tried to flush the toilet.....Hmmm, why isn't the toilet flushing? It worked just fine yesterday. It worked just fine when the home inspector (another blog post) was here. I
