crystal coast: Salty Dogs on the Crystal Coast Photo Contest - 06/30/15 10:24 PM
Salty Dogs on the Crystal Coast Photo Contest

We LOVE our dogs here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.  We take them hiking, jogging, biking, cruising and boating,  We take them out to eat.  We take them for ice cream, we take them to parks and we take them to the beach to swim or just relax.

My favorite Salty Dog, Kayla, joined our family in January.  She is a German Shephard mix and is now nine months old. She, of course, loves being a coastal canine, and the salt & sand do not bother her one bit.

The best burgers on the Crystal Coast of NC

I love a good hamburger, but I must admit that I have not eaten one at every restaurant or grill in my area.  I have eaten a lot of them though, and so the following recommendations for the best burgers on the Crystal Coast of NC, are based solely on my opinion, and from the many restaurants I have tried.  A lot depends on what kind of burger you want too, as there are many different varieties here on the coast of North Carolina!

Sunday Soaking on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina!

It has been raining for 3 days, non-stop, on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.  I'm not complaining. It has been a great excuse to tackle several indoor projects that we have been putting off.  We changed a couple of light fixtures (bye-bye brass), I put a second coat of paint in our long and dreary hallway (not so dreary anymore), Rog replaced our Smoke/fire alarms, and we replaced some closet doors that were broken when we bought the house 6 years ago (nothing like putting a project off, huh).

My favorite things about Summer on the Crystal Coast!

Let's just go ahead and get the negative out of the way....It's HOT!  Really, really Hot!  We are seeing temps in the low 100s and folks are complaining big time.  Throw in 100% humidity and it's just miserable!  Well, I made a promise after this past winter (I really hate the cold), that when summer arrived I would not complain about the heat.  While it may be extremely and uncomfortably hot, there are many things I love about summer on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.

Super, Sunny & Spectacular Sunday by the Seashore!

Today has just been one of those days for the memory books.  Started out by attending church service at St. Francis by the Sea, where my dad was confirmed by the Bishop of Eastern Carolina.  Not only that, but my sweet little boy and several other children started the service with a song and a prayer (too cute).  It was definitely a service to remember!  Immediately following Church, My sister's family and mine took our dad out to lunch at El Zarape in Atlantic Beach....One of our favorite places.  We had a … (12 comments)

Try to be Patient...They are working for Us!

This time of year, it is not uncommon to see road work on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.  While you may be complaining that your drive to the office or home is slightly longer than normal, try to remember that they are working for us.  In just a few short weeks, our streets will be packed with tourists or "Dit Dots", and our summertime residents.  If that idea in itself makes you complain even more, try to remember that tourism is our Bread & Butter and.... If they don't take … (8 comments)

Sort of Speechless Sunday by the Seashore
While taking photos of a new listing for my mom today, I couldn't help but kick back on the deck of the property and enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful view.  The sky was bright blue today, the sound a deeper blue and the birds were enjoying this glorious weather almost as much as I am!

If You Love Oysters...It's a WooHoo Kind of Day!

I do not eat seafood, especially Oysters, but I am proud to remind everyone that today, October 15, 2010......Oyster Season Begins on the Crystal Coast!  Since I do not eat them, I can't tell you how to cook an oyster, but I can tell you how important it is to recycle your oyster shells.

The North Carolina Oyster Shell Recycling program is very important to the Oyster Population.  The program collects oyster shells from businesses and individuals and places them back in the water.  Baby oysters, who start out … (13 comments)

The View of the Beach is Not as Awesome from an Ambulance!

Here on the Crystal Coast, the emergency team is great.  But we'd rather you not find out first hand!  Using caution while hangin' at the beach, can save you a trip to the hospital or even death.  Wouldn't you rather enjoy the views, the shopping, the live music, the fresh, local seafood?

Where to Get the Best Deal on "Silly Bandz" on the Crystal Coast

If you have kids, there is no doubt you are familiar with "Silly Bandz".  For those of you who aren't familiar with them,  they are basically shaped rubberbands that come in many different themes and colors, in a package of a dozen or more, and they are flying off the shelves at anywhere from $2.99 to $6.00...wish I had thought of it!

If I'd Kept My Mouth Shut...

I was taking photos of a new listing this morning, and thought that this photo was worth sharing.  Living on the coast, we see a lot of mounted fish on display, but never have I seen such a catchy phrase attached. The sign below the fish reads:  "IF I'D KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT, I WOULDN'T BE ON THIS WALL."

Leave Only Your Footprints!
The Crystal Coast Welcomes visitors with open arms.  We want to share our beautiful beaches with everyone...and they are beautiful!  Bring your pets (on a leash, of course) and bring your picnic lunches and enjoy the amazing views that surround you.  But, please remember to take your trash with you. We take a lot of pride in our environment and want to keep it clean for all to enjoy.  But it is not just for appearances that I make this request!

As we stepped onto the beach this past weekend, we were greeted by this piece of wonderful Beach Art!  No idea who the artist was or how long it had been there, but it was a welcomed greeting to each and every beachcomber that day!  You never know what kind of surprise awaits you on the Crystal Coast!

Southern Thru n' Thru!

When I met my husband back in 1995, he was a little confused about the difference between being Southern and being a Redneck.  Believe me...there is a difference.   You see, my husband is a Yankee from Wisconsin.  It doesn't bother me, I like the fact that he talks a little funny, aye.  Now, I thought my biological father, who just happens to be a southerner gone redneck, was going to have a heart attack when he found out I was going to marry that Hippy, Yankee boy.  He has since grown to love my husband … (12 comments)
