selling your home: When you are selling your home..... Live like you are dying! - 02/23/12 07:17 PM
When you are selling your home..... Live like you are dying!

I consider myself to be pretty darn organized.  But occasionally, I open a closet or a drawer and find that I keep a lot of junk that I shouldn't be keeping.  Recently, I opened my drawer that I cram all of my paid bills and other wonderful things that need to be filed and thought, "If I died tomorrow, someone I love would have to sort through this crap", and no, I'm not sick or anything, you just never know what tomorrow will bring.

I was ashamed … (37 comments)

selling your home: It's Not What's on the Outside that Counts.... Or is it? - 01/20/12 12:59 AM
It's Not What's on the Outside that Counts.... Or is it?

We have all heard the phrase, "It's Not What's on the Outside that Counts"!  Well,  I hate to break it to you, but when it comes to selling your home,  What's on the outside counts just as much as what's on the inside.... If not more!  Remember, You never get a second chance to make a first impression!  You do not need to spend a fortune, but a little cash (and sometimes NO Cash) and a lot of elbow grease can go a long way when improving your home's … (12 comments)

selling your home: Selling your home? Don't Forget about the Pantry! - 09/18/11 04:13 AM
Selling your home?  Don't Forget about the Pantry!
So you're selling your home.  You've probably cleaned and purged and organized.  Every inch of every room, every closet, every cabinet..... Don't forget about the Pantry.
It may seem silly, but if your pantry is overflowing with boxes and cans and bags.... It can turn a buyer off.  Especially if the buyer loves to cook.  A messy and overstocked pantry can make a normally wonderful pantry look small and inadequate.
We've been having cooler weather here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina (it's fabulous), which forces me to open the … (11 comments)

selling your home: I LOVE The Eighties....But Buyers may not feel the same way! - 05/19/11 10:53 AM
I LOVE The Eighties....But Buyers may not feel the same way!
I absolutely love the Eighties.  Some of you may not agree with me, but those of you who do... remember that John Hughes was the Bomb.  I wanted to be a member of the Breakfast Club, I wanted to marry  Rob Lowe and I wanted to have our wedding at St. Elmos Fire.  When we had our first child, I wanted to name him River (Tanner is very grateful that I changed my Mind).  I wanted my bridesmaids to dress like Cyndi Lauper and I wanted The Pretenders to play … (17 comments)

selling your home: Springtime, Shedding Pets and Selling Your Home - 04/27/11 11:16 PM
Springtime, Shedding Pets and Selling Your Home

Spring is a wonderful season.  I love the warmer weather, the green grass, the lush full trees and the blooms that fill the gardens.  My family loves to get outdoors and walk, bike, swim, play, etc.

One thing about spring that I don't enjoy is the shedding of my pets' hair.  Springtime is when many dog and cat breeds shed their winter coats to prepare for the heat.  With four cats and a thick, long haired dog.... You better believe we suffer from a few hairballs and a nice fur … (12 comments)

selling your home: What Are Your Expectations? - 03/31/11 11:20 PM
What Are Your Expectations?

When I married my husband ten years ago, we had been dating for almost five years.  When I said "I Do', I already knew that he was never going to fill the empty toilet paper roll.  I knew that he was ALWAYS going to squeeze the toothpaste from the middle, and I knew that if I didn't want to wear pink socks for the rest of my life, he wasn't going to do the Laundry either.  When he said "I Do", he knew that my idea of cooking was pizza delivery and chinese take out.  … (21 comments)

selling your home: Look Up, Look Down, Look All Around..... - 03/29/11 11:15 AM

Look Up, Look Down, Look All Around.....That's what I am going to do prior to placing your home on the market.  If I see stains on the ceiling, I'm going to ask you if the leak or problem has been repaired.  I'm also going to ask you to have the stain removed if the leak has been repaired.  I am going to look for cracks and I am going to look for Spider webs.  I am going to look at the floor, is there any damage there?  Are there any signs of foundation issues?  I'm going to look at the … (3 comments)

selling your home: I'm Gonna Hold My Head High....And just walk away! - 02/08/11 10:35 PM
I'm Gonna Hold My Head High....And just walk away!

So...You have called me because you are ready  to sell your home.  Great!  Are you sure you are ready?  I went over the Comparative Market Analysis with you (word for word, number by number).  I used the most recent sales in your neighborhood and it clearly recommends a suggested price of $400,000.  I know this market frontwards & backwards, so when you tell me that you want to list your home for $800,000 and totally ignore the facts...I am going to gather my things, Hold my head up and just walk … (127 comments)

selling your home: When selling your home....SWEAT the Small Stuff! - 01/23/11 09:25 PM
When Selling your home....SWEAT the Small Stuff!

Everyone has heard, "Don't sweat the small stuff"...but when selling your home, The Small stuff can make a BIG difference.  Many Buyers can overlook the small stuff, but many can't and won't!  By Small Stuff, I am referring to things like burnt out lightbulbs, loose doorknobs, closet doors that are off the hinges, small tears in the screen on the back porch.  There are also quick & easy "Housekeeping" items that can make the home feel Tidy & Clean & well maintained.

Here's one example....My husband is the world's worst Dresser Drawer … (170 comments)

selling your home: Rubbermade Avalanche... - 10/17/10 10:47 PM
Rubbermade Avalanche...

Yesterday, my husband dragged out the slow cooker and put together a huge pot of Chili...just one more reason why I love the Fall & the cooler weather!  After dinner, I went to the kitchen to put away the leftovers.  I opened the cabinet door to the rubbermade and...an avalanche of mismatched pieces came tumbling down onto my feet!

First of all...I thought, Why would anyone have this much rubbermade?  I mean, Seriously!?  Second of all...How can someone as organized as I am, have this type of mess in one of their cabinets?  I can't … (11 comments)

Tips to get your home Guest Ready or "Market Ready" !

On Monday afternoon, I received a call from family in Alabama.  Guess What? They are coming to visit and should arrive within 36 hours!!!!  I know, not a whole lot of notice, but something we get a lot of living at the beach!

Let's pretend that I am not a perfect housekeeper and my house is a mess ;-)

Did I panic after hanging up the phone?  Of course not!  Okay, maybe a little, but I have a system in place for quick cleanups.  Each family … (2 comments)

selling your home: Selling Your Home and Protecting Your Pets in The Process! - 12/27/09 02:07 AM
Selling Your Home and Protecting Your Pets in The Process! Are you in the process of selling your home or considering selling your home?  Do you have pets?  There are many ways you can make the process easier for everyone, including your four legged family members.
One thing to remember when placing your home on the market is that the easier it is to show, the easier it is to sell.  When my husband and I sold our home in Florida, we had a 3 week old baby, five cats and a large dog.  We sold the home in 2005 … (20 comments)

selling your home: Do Cockroaches have feelings? - 10/25/09 12:38 AM
I certainly do not think that I am alone in my total disgust of thecommon cockroach.  Snakes and spiders...no problem, but put a cockroachin front of me and I FREAK OUT!  I am so freaked out by the cockroachthat I can't even get close enough to kill them. A few days ago, I was in a public restroom.  Just as I sat down, a huge and nasty cockroach crawled under the stall door.  I grabbed the only thing I could find, and tossed the roll of toilet paper at the creature to scare him off.  Then I thought, Do cockroaches have … (15 comments)
