Penguins are Coming to the Crystal Coast! Just in case the North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores, NC wasn't cool enough..... Penguins will be taking up residence there in May. That ought to cool things off just in time for summer! To celebrate, the Aquarium is hosting a Pre-Penguin Party on Saturday, March 10th, 2012. The event will take place from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm, and kids under 12 who are dressed like a penguin, will receive free admission. Kids in costume will also have the opportunity to enter their name in a drawing for "Ribbon Cutting (14 comments)
My baby will be seven years old this weekend. Having a winter birthday has been tough for his dad and me, because we can't just stick the kids in the back yard or have a pool party, beach party, etc. We sometimes must be creative or we'll have a house full of little boys running around tormenting the kitties and the dog, and well, that's not fair to the cats..... and I can't deal with that!

The Morehead City Center of Performing Arts is bringing one of my all time favorite Country Singers to Carteret County. Collin Raye has had several #1 hits on the Country Music Charts, including: "Little Red Rodeo", "One Boy, One Girl", "Love, Me", and my all time favorite, "I Think About You". On January 13th, 2011, Collin Raye will be on stage at 8:00 PM. Tickets are only $20-25 for adults and $10-15 for kids under 12 (price varies depending on seating). If you are anything like me, the cold weather is starting to bring you down! On the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, we are waking up to frost on the ground and temps in the Low 30's. In the afternoon, we are up to the high 50's & low 60's, and some of us are in need of a little sunshine and fresh air. As I enjoyed the Christmas Parade in Pine Knoll Shores this past Saturday, I felt Love in my heart and remembered what the season is really all about. As the participates passed by, I was proud to know them. So many of them working endless volunteer hours for such organizations as Relay For Life, Hospice House, The Boys & Girls Club, Garden Clubs, Women's Clubs, etc... all to make our community a better place for all! St. Francis-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church will be sponsoring the second annual Jingle-Bell Walk for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina on Saturday, November 26, 2011, starting at 9:00 a.m. This year's walk will be in loving memory of Jim Flynt, who gave so much time, energy & financial assistance to the Boys and Girls Club and St. Francis by the Sea.

Candy doesn't normally fall from the sky either, but it sure does during the Carolina Kite Festival! Next weekend, October 29th and 30th, 2011 Candy will be falling from the sky in Atlantic Beach during the Candy Drop! So, the kids can run around and collect the treats as they fall over (7 comments)
Summer on the NC Coast is fabulous. Spending hours at the beach, watching the surfers and the tourists, Morehead City Marlins Baseball Games, Picniks, Sailing, Fishing, Hangin' out at the Cape, Shack Attacks..... Did I mention the beach!?
But..... When it starts getting a little cooler outside and we can open the windows and enjoy the fresh autumn breezes, I am a happy camper! I love fall anywhere, but I especially love fall on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Sure the changing colors of the leaves is refreshing, the cooler air (12 comments)

On July 30th - 31st, 2011 at the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle, North Carolina, The Annual Buddy Pelletier Longboard Memorial Contest will take place! The event attracts amateur and professional surfers from the East Coast along with other countries, including former and current East Coast, ESA and world champions. The contest is held by the Buddy Pelletier Surfing Foundation, "an organization that sponsors fellowships and renders humanitarian aid to members of the East Coast surfing community". Let's just go ahead and get the negative out of the way....It's HOT! Really, really Hot! We are seeing temps in the low 100s and folks are complaining big time. Throw in 100% humidity and it's just miserable! Well, I made a promise after this past winter (I really hate the cold), that when summer arrived I would not complain about the heat. Well folks, Firework Celebrations for the Fourth of July were looking pretty grim here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Nineteen Eastern Carolina Counties are currently under a "Burn Ban", and everyone was being urged to refrain from Fireworks on the fourth of July. After Carteret County received a good soaking yesterday afternoon, and is expecting more on Friday, Fireworks are still a go for the 4th of July Weekend! As far as I know, the burn ban is still in effect, and the Air quality is still not (8 comments)
Well Folks, I think we can say that summer has definitely arrived on the NC Coast. Yesterday afternoon, the thermostat read 102 whopping degrees. The good news is that on the beach it was only 98º...how refreshing! The water temperature on the Crystal Coast is currently 82º....Very Warm for this time of year. I'm not complaining, I'll take the heat over the cold any day, and of course, there are many ways to cool off. I just wonder what July is gonna feel like! Ten Ways to Stay (15 comments)
Starting on June 1st, 2011, Every Wednesday evening, Outdoor Movies can be enjoyed at the Atlantic Beach Circle. Movies begin at dusk (usually around 8:00 PM) and are Free to the public. Parking is also free for Movie Goers. Bring your beach blankets, camp chairs, and a picnic dinner and kick back on the beach to watch great movies.

This Weekend, head over to Beaufort, North Carolina. Beaufort is ALWAYS a great place to visit, but this weekend, May 20th - May 22nd, you can see the Nina and the Pinta, Columbus Replica Ships. After viewing the ships, take a stroll around the docks at the North Carolina Maritime Museum's Gallants Channel Annex, and then maybe have lunch at Fish Tales overlooking the Town Creek Marina. At the North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores, Kids of all ages are invited to Party for the Planet on April 17-23, 2011. Lots of fun activities and presentations will be going on....There is something for everyone. The theme for the week is "It's Getting Hot in Here" and they will focus on global climate changes.
2011 is recognized as Year of the Turtle, and with the global climate changes, the Aquarium will show kids how the rising temperatures affect the turtles and other reptiles, amphibians and birds.
A good friend of ours is coming to the North Carolina Coast for a visit in June. When I called her to find out what she would like to do while here, She requested a list of options and well....There are too many wonderful options to choose from...What Shall We Do? Whatever she chooses, I know we'll have a great time.
