4 years to reach 200,000 points. Please let me explain. - 01/31/11 06:37 PM
4 years to get to 200,000 points.  Hardly a remarkable achievement.  It would probably help to explain that I didn't have a clue what ActiveRain was all about or how it could ever benefit my business.
When I signed up and wrote my first blog post almost exactly 4 years ago on January 27, 2007, the fact that I was clueless is an understatement... which is evidenced by a total of 17 measly blog posts by yours truly for all of 2007.
But...in 2008, I accidentally came across one of those first 17 ActiveRain blog posts on page 1 of Google and … (9 comments)

Golf Courses in Sun Lakes AZ ~ Public or Private? - 01/21/11 02:19 PM
There are 5 golf courses in Sun Lakes, AZ, one in each of the five communities (Oakwood, Ironwood, Palo Verde, Cottonwood and Sun Lakes #1).  One of the questions asked most often is "are the golf courses private or public?".
The 27-hole golf course in Oakwood is public as is the 18-hole golf course in Ironwood.  Ironwood and Oakwood share an HOA (IronOaks) and special memberships are available to homeowners.  A homeowner can join a single golf course or both for reduced rates.  There are several plans available from weekend Punch Card plans (perfect for our winter visitors), weekend memberships to … (1 comments)

The Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix AZ ~ Time for a visit! - 01/20/11 09:10 AM
One of the newest attractions in Phoenix is the Musical Instrument Museum, affectionately known as The MIM.  After hearing the buzz about the MIM, I decided to include it on our list of "fun things to do in Phoenix" while my daughter was visiting this past weekend.
All I can say is "wow".  First...make sure you plan a full day or even two to enjoy all the aspects of the museum.  We made it through maybe half and it was absolutely incredible.
From instruments we all know and recognize, to others from around the world that are sculpted from bones (both … (4 comments)

Are you losing buyers to Internet potholes? - 01/16/11 10:09 AM
Computer-based technology is awesome.  The Internet, E-mail, Virtual Conferencing..yada yada yada.  But what happens when you have a buyer who is technologically challenged?  Does your 'techno-speak' leave them cowering under the chair?
A buyer recently contacted me and her first comment was "I'm looking for a real person to help me find a home in Chandler".
Check...I'm a real person.
She followed that statement by asking if I could find her a home without making her use the Internet and explained~
"I was working with a real estate agent who kept wanting me to set me up in a pothole.  I … (8 comments)

Carefree Fine Arts and Wine Festival 2011 - 01/13/11 09:39 PM
It's supposed to be the most perfect weekend in the Phoenix area this weekend so why not take a short drive North to the Carefree Fine Arts and Wine Festival beginning tomorrow, Friday January 14, 2011 through Sunday January 16, 2011.
With temps in the 70's and sunshine on your shoulders (queue the John Denver accompaniment), you'll be able to stroll the streets of downtown Carefree and view the more than 5000 masterpieces by over 160 world-acclaimed artists.
But wait...there's more!
Wine!  The Carefree Fine Arts and Wine Festival is also known as Arizona's largest wine tasting event and will feature … (1 comments)

IPhone is coming to Verizon ~ Will you make the switch? - 01/11/11 06:13 PM
Breaking news! The IPhone is coming to Verizon on February 3rd for current Verizon customers (February 10, 2011 for everyone else).  I know a lot of people who have been waiting for this news.  I have to admit, I've been looking forward to it myself.  BUT...now that it's here, will I actually make the switch?
Can I say up front that I hate the learning curve with all the new technology.  I've always been pretty techy so then why am I still working with 2 laptops until I can fully figure out the new laptop I bought 2 months ago?
My question is... will the … (10 comments)

Some days, everyone needs a little Spongemonkey to make them smile - 01/06/11 05:10 PM
Sometimes you just have to laugh and nothing does that better for me than my "old faithful", the Spongemonkeys and their "We like the Moon" song.  There's no way you can watch these little guys sing this silly song without laughing..or, if you have a microscopic sense of humor, a smile and the very least.  I wonder if this is out in a ringtone?  Imagine...smiling when you answer the phone!

It's been around forever, but every time I see it, I laugh.  My husband thinks our little Shihtzu, Mr. Magoo looks a little like a Spongemonkey. Hmmm... Maybe. When … (3 comments)

When will the real estate market turn around? - 01/06/11 11:09 AM
A question I get almost every day ~ "Have our home prices hit bottom?" and "When will our home prices stop falling and start going up?"
First, after I realize I've misplaced my crystal ball, I take a deep breath and say "So sorry Spanky, but I don't think our home prices have hit bottom." I wish I could sugar-coat it, but I can"t. Why? There are still too many homes on the market and not enough buyers and we continue to see foreclosures on every street.
Second, the unemployment rate is still too high (hence, the insufficient number of buyers). … (6 comments)

Pickleball is coming to Oakwood Tennis Club in Sun Lakes, AZ - 01/05/11 11:20 AM
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO! It's PICKLEBALL and it's coming to the Oakwood Tennis Club in Sun Lakes, AZ!
So what exactly is Pickleball? First and foremost, no pickles are involved. It's a game that's been around since the 1960's and combines tennis, badminton and ping pong. It's typically played on a badminton-sized court with ping-pong sized paddles and a softball sized plastic wiffle ball, (that's a ball with holes in it, folks.) with points earned as in tennis.
So why is it called Pickleball? History has it that one of the the inventor's (Joel Pritchard) dog … (0 comments)

Plagiarism ~ Ignorance is bliss until you get a call from an attorney - 01/01/11 01:15 PM
They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery so why doesn't it feel that way when you stumble upon someone passing off your work as their own.
It happened to me yesterday when I found an agent had copied one of my blog posts (including the image I had paid to use) and posted it on her blog as if she had written it herself.
After I glued the top of my head back in place, I contacted her and asked her to remove the post from her blog.  She responded by saying that many of her posts had been … (88 comments)
