activerain: Don't blog with your raincoat on! Advice to the newbies.
- 09/17/16 12:28 PM
So here you are on ActiveRain and you have NO idea what to do with it all. How well I remember my first day at ActiveRain. I really do! I was scared to death to post anything, to comment, to do anything. But I was fascinated by the connections I could tell people had made with each other. And I couldn't stop reading what everyone was saying about how to blog, why to blog, what to blog. Let alone how to be a better real estate agent. I learned from all sorts of posts. I remember pouring through listing posts and market stats. (58 comments)
activerain: It's been a long haul, but this one should do it!
- 09/05/16 03:06 AM
I haven't talked about points in a long, long time. Perhaps because I took some time off from blogging and fell behind. I remember thinking I would never, ever get to a million points, but this post should put me right over the edge, obtaining a long forgotten goal I had. Or perhaps it was more of a desire. Somewhere along the way the points stopped mattering to me. The relationships became far, far more important. Some of the people have disappeared, with or without explanation. They have left a hole in my life, I wonder if they realize how much they mean (67 comments)
activerain: Going out on my own limb here, the sale of ActiveRain
- 06/20/15 02:15 AM
Well, didn't the news take me by surprise! Ben Kinney purchasing ActiveRain. My first thought was actually... wow... Ben has been in real estate 11 years and look at his amazing track record. Way to go Ben! He has had an awesome ride so far, and I am sure he will continue to have an even more awesome ride in life. Ben knows how to make money. And he seems to be one of the good guys. I don't know Ben personally, but I did get a Geeky tee shirt out of him (as in his company) after my IMSD classes. Although it (27 comments)
activerain: Fun in the rain with Jeff Dowler!
- 03/14/15 08:45 PM
Jeff Dowler CRS reminded me about our phone conversation a few years back which I just had to share. It wasn't the conversation that is important, it was what happened while we were on the phone. I was REALLY playing in the rain during the conversation. I was riding in the car with 2 friends when Jeff called, so I told them to go ahead into the grocery store without me, I would catch up. I was so happy to speak to Jeff that the store could wait. I really looked up to Jeff, he is an amazing blogger, and if (29 comments)
activerain: If it ain't rainin', they ain't gettin' wet! The proof is in the puddles
- 03/14/15 02:36 AM
I have gone around to a few different people to see what is going on here on ActiveRain. One thing that totally mystifies me is the fact that people will post FANTASTIC articles they have written for the consumer, yet the only ones who can read it are... the members of ActiveRain! My advice? Get a Rainmaker account and post to YOUR CONSUMER!
Because if you don't your wonderful post will fall on deaf ears. If it ain't rainin', your potential clients are NOT going to get drenched with your information! Does it really make a difference if you have (50 comments)
activerain: News Flash! ActiveRain is not trading points for cash!
- 06/24/14 11:52 AM
You might think they were. True to ActiveRain form there are certainly a plethora of posts out there about the increase to 20 posts a week for points. I see pro posts, con posts, the comments are mostly thoughtful on both sides and make lots of sense.
But 20 posts a week? There are some very prolific bloggers here who have posted more than 10 posts a week despite not getting the points awarded for them. To these people the points were never, ever the point. They managed to find the time to write, they reaped the benefits of posting more (71 comments)
activerain: OMG, ActiveRain is sending me outside without my pants on!
- 09/26/13 09:49 PM
I managed to keep my secret under wraps... Until now that is. I am having an anxiety attack. Everyone is going to find out soon enough that.... I CAN'T SPELL. My new fear? Our very own Gwen Banta will change her bloopers from MLS Bloopers to Blogging Bloopers with me as the star of the show. Unless I am missing something here, ActiveRain has decided that we don't need spell check. I licken liken this to forgetting to put your pants on when you go outside! I have never speeled spelled well. I can read, read like a maniac. I have (49 comments)
activerain: Do you have ANY idea how long it takes me to look this good?
- 08/24/13 01:45 AM
Oh woe is me... they changed everything all over again! This morning I read several posts about the changes to our profiles on ActiveRain, both pro and con. It reminded me of a post I wrote in November of 2013 entitled "Digital Sharecropping or a Symbiotic Relationship". Change is not always easy, that's for sure! Here is the bottom line. Any time you post online with a site you don't own, you are sharecropping. As long as others are getting something out of your work you are sharecropping. And they don't have to inform you of changes, they just (23 comments)
activerain: Pinch me, 11,486 clicks in 9 days? R U Kidding? I need a drink!!!
- 08/16/13 12:08 PM
Either I just had my 15 minutes of fame... or the clicks counter on ActiveRain is broken. Something must be wrong. I wrote a post 9 days ago, today it shows that 11,486 people actually clicked on the post. That just cannot be, it must be broken! I would love to think the clicks are so high because I wrote the best post ever in the history of blogging.. but let's face it, that is rather unreal. Wouldn't you agree?
And if it's not broken, does the title have something to do with it? "If rules are meant (69 comments)
activerain: Channeling Barbara Todaro
- 07/13/13 10:27 PM
Barbara may not have known it, but she was here in CT at a meeting with me the other day. We were in a meeting with the builders when it happened. Words starting coming out of my mouth I have learned from Barbara Todaro, ideas, concepts of how to get a project off the ground. Things I have read on her posts, things we have talked about on the phone. They were spilling out of me with authority. Because I know they will work. Barbara has been more than generous with all of us on ActiveRain with her knowledge of marketing. (36 comments)
activerain: Drag Your Pants to the Circle
- 06/06/13 11:34 AM
Wow, as if ActiveRain wasn't fun enough, now we get to play GAMES while we are here! Drag the pants to the circle on the side.... That was an interesting surprise to find here. We have a new Captcha and this one is ever so much easier than the one where you try to read what is written and can't for the life of you figure it out. This is JUST like what my grandson and I do in his brand spankin new Activity Book! Now what I am wondering is... are we going to have some fun surprises (22 comments)
activerain: ActiveRain Friends Mean The World To Me
- 01/18/13 10:37 PM
I am heading to Georgia either today or tomorrow with my cousin. My father is not doing well and it is time for a visit with him. You may gasp when I tell you this, but my father is not connected to the internet..... he doesn't have a computer, doesn't use Netflix, Skype is a foreign word to him. Although I have a team in place to handle many things, there is the marketing of a new listing to take care of, there is a new website I have been working on that is now live but not finished.... on and (17 comments)
activerain: Are they spiking the water up there in Massachusetts?
- 12/17/12 10:37 PM
I was reading posts this morning when one came up on the blog roll which I thought was excellent and I reblogged it. Very pertinent to my market area for wintertime selling. The post was written by a Massachusetts real estate agent, they have just about the same weather we have here in Connecticut so it was certainly applicable. I hit the reblog button faster than you can say Jack Frost... I mean, it was a no brainer as far as I was concerned. Then I noticed something....There must be something in the water up in Massachusetts. Here was yet another agent (19 comments)
To my ActiveRain friends,I have laughed with you, cried when you cried, learned from you and come to know you as real friends. It has been a gift that you have given to me over the years that I have spent here, a gift I treasure each and every day. I may not have ever met you, heard your voice, but I know you so very well. I can hear your voice resonating with the words on the page, I revel in your humor, I am grateful that I have such amazing people I count as my friends. This holiday season (13 comments)
activerain: IM(NS)HO, a great real estate blogger...
- 08/07/12 03:12 AM
I ran across a post yesterday that I thought was THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of showcasing an area the agent covers while introducing listings. Over the last few years I have come to really respect and admire the pure unadulterated enthusiasm, the passion this blogger has for the area he covers. He is the best ambassador his state could ever imagine, I wonder if they realize what an absolute treasure he is to them. Andrew Mooers, Mooers Realty of Houlton Maine amazes me. Each post describes Maine life in an apple pie, blueberry picking, no doors locked here kind of way. He (18 comments)
activerain: Crap on your own lawn....
- 08/01/12 01:27 AM
Sometimes I wonder.... I wonder if people behave in public the way they behave on the internet, when they have distance, a computer and the web, anonymity, to protect them. Or maybe they lose their inhibitions when online, the lure of going over and crapping all over their "neighbors" lawn is too strong to ignore. Let me save everyone some valuable time. No one crapped on my lawn here, not recently anyway. No need to go digging through my posts.... I was inspired after reading some posts where I cringed when reading the comments. The good news for me is that (18 comments)
activerain: I blog on Wordpress too, big deal...
- 07/07/12 01:31 AM
WordPress is great! I have almost carte blanche control of things. (Perhaps, in the scheme of things, that is not the best idea in the world, to give me control like that, but that is another post.) I do like my WordPress site, and will like it even more the day I hit that sweet spot, sit back and say... ahhh... this is it... I am pleased with what I see. Although knowing me, that is a pipe dream. But what I don't have on WordPress is interaction! I find that makes me NOT want to post there. I know, I (26 comments)

My NEW Marketing Budget Wish List Courtesy ActiveRain! This is not only an entry into the ActiveRain contest to win the $500 gift card to be used for marketing, it is an eye opening experience that has kicked me in my marketing butt! It has stretched my mind and thoughts on what I spend for marketing and why it isn't enough. The Price is Right: $500 Real Estate Marketing and Tech Challenge! Although I have seen discussion, and even participated in discussion that newsprint is dead, I have to eat those words and say that certain print newspapers (12 comments)

Of course you do.... I just know you do.... you are itching to be (in)famous, right? I am working on a presentation for the Greater Fairfield Chapter of the Women's Council of Realtors about ActiveRain and what it has brought to my business. (I was very honored to be asked.) I am working on my slide show, my talk has been outlined, then I thought about the rest of my friends on ActiveRain. So how about you tell me what ActiveRain has brought to your business and I will put it in the presentation, let me use your photo and you (29 comments)
activerain: If I had known then what I know now... don't end up as real estate road kill.
- 03/09/12 09:25 AM
I credit ActiveRain from keeping me ending up as "real estate road kill". Poor Andrea, she used to be a Realtor®, before she was turned into real estate road kill. Flattened like an opossum hit by a semi while trying to navigate the 16 lane highway of real estate, all alone. If I had known then what I know now.... I would not have gotten into real estate... I would have done things differently. I wish I would have really grasped the concept of linking much earlier. I tend to link willy nilly style, there needs to be a much, much (67 comments)
