Renting vs. Buying - What Is Best For You?
Should I rent or should I buy? If you are renting in Birmingham AL you may be asking yourself these questions. There are certainly some attractive reasons to consider purchasing a home.....historically low interest rates are still available and the $8,000 First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit has been extended until April 30, 2010.

Christmas Tree Recycling in Shelby County
It's hard to believe Christmas has already come and gone......didn't we just get finished putting out all the decorations? If you purchased a live tree it is probably dry and dropping needles and ready to be removed.
Shelby County is offering a Christmas Tree Recycling program that will accept trees from December 28th to January 4th, 2010. The trees will be used to make landscaping and erosion/sediment control materials for use by the county.

I Must Have Been a Very Good Girl This Year!
I got the most wonderful surprise for Christmas! Photos of all our kids together (which is no small feat considering their schedules)! I got lots of framed prints, including a 16 X 20 of this one.
In the center of the photo is my daughter Michelle, and she is holding our youngest grandchild, Richard. Next to her is Molly (grandaughter), standing behind her is Richard (son-in-law, Michelle's husband), then daughters Dana and Kendall, and son Dan.

Did Santa Go To Jared?
This is my grandaughter, Molly, sporting a new bauble that she found in her stocking. It's a pretty big rock, don't you think?
We have several stops to make on Christmas Day and the first is always my daughter's house.......so early in the morning that it is still dark when we load up the car with their gifts and leave the house.
Okay, so this rock did not come from Jared. Can you guess what it is?

Christmas Lights in Helena AL
I went out a couple of nights ago with my camera to take pictures of Christmas lights, and I've decided I really don't have the equipment I need to take good photos at night. These were taken with my Panasonic Lumix TZ4 which I got last year when my old camera died. I enjoy it because it has a wide angle lens and takes much nicer shots than the 5 year old Canon that I had, but it has it's limitations. This past Saturday our office hosted a Breakfast With Santa and we all had so much fun! Santa brought along one of his elves and they stayed busy with all the children that came to talk to him about their Christmas wish lists. We invited family, friends and clients......also had signs and balloons on the street pointing the way. It was a great crowd! I had never heard of Sanfilippo Syndrome until recently. My friend, Michele Burbank, has a six year old nephew who was diagnosed with Sanfilippo in 2007. His name is Will Luthcke, and there is currently no treatment or cure for his condition. There are different types of this disorder; Will has Sanfilippo syndrome - Type A, which is the most common and the most severe form of the disease.

King's College Choir Cambridge - Once In Royal David's City
I always look forward to listening to the Lessons and Carols Service presented by the Kings College Choir at Christmas. As far as I know the service always begins with the voice of a young boy soprano singing Once In Royal David's City with no accompaniment. The music is peaceful and lovely, and the Chapel at Kings College with it's beautiful stained glass is magnificent. It would be incredible to one day be able to attend this service in person.

The First Casualty of the 2009 Christmas Season at Our House.......
We have three cats that live indoors and each year they love Christmas as much as anyone, having a lot of fun at the expense of the ornaments! As they get older I'm noticing they are becoming a little less mischievious. Two of the cats used to sleep in the branches of the Christmas tree and I would have to reshape the tree each morning and put ornaments back on.......there were usually a dozen or so on the floor from a night of fun and frolicking.
