Lace up your sneakers and come support Camp Smile A Mile on Saturday, September 17th for the 2nd Annual Monkey C Monkey Run 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run at Homewood Central Park! Registration is from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM, with the 5K starting at 8 AM and the 1 Mile Fun Run at 9 AM. Following the races awards will be presented 10 AM. Can you believe it? It's still blazing hot but summer vacation is already a memory for students in the Shelby County School System who headed back to class August 11th. When we were kids school didn't start back until after Labor Day, and now that is the first holiday on the school calendar, which this year falls on September 5th.

It's hard to believe Birmingham's own Three On A String has been playing together for 40 years now! Yesterday they celebrated by performing two concerts at the Mountain Brook Fine Arts Center at Mountain Brook High School, joined by former members for a reunion show that was obviously as much fun for them as it was for the audience. We attended the evening performance.....the place was packed with loyal fans from the early days as well as some, well, younger folks!

If you are looking for something fun to do this is a great weekend to visit The Birmingham Zoo!
$5 Fun Days At The Zoo began Thursday, August 4th and continues through Sunday, August 7th. Admission is only $5, which is a great value considering the regular price of admission is $14 for adults and $9 for kids 2-12 and seniors 65+. Well, maybe not for everyone, but lots of parents are looking forward to sending the kiddos back to school! Whether you are a student or a parent, or someone that really doesn't care that classes are about to start, community traffic in and around Birmingham is about to get heavier and you probably need to get an earlier start to avoid delays getting to school or work on time.
