If you are unable to attend the First Friday Art Walk on Marietta Square this week, there will still be plenty of time for artistic enrichment over the long weekend. The community of Marietta, Georgia invites one and all to experience the 24th Annual Art in the Park festival, September 4-6, 2010. This fine art extravaganza held each Labor Day weekend is proud to be selected as a Top 20 Event by Southeast Tourism Society for the 3rd consecutive year. We are still sweating through the dog days of August, but next week hails the arrival of September, along with many festivities to celebrate Labor Day weekend. Cobb County, Georgia offers several ways to enjoy the last blast of summer. Acworth kicks it off with a "beach state of mind" at the annual Love the Lake Festival at Cauble Park in downtown Acworth on September 4th and 5th. Take your choice - indoors or out - you won't be disappointed with entertainment choices on Marietta Square on Friday, August 27th. The Summer Friday Concert Series continues in Glover Park. This month features Livin' Large, a popular oldies band. The concert is free of charge but if you're looking for a "front-row seat," a limited number of tables can be reserved -- $45 for tables of six and $55 for tables for eight. It's summer, so there must be ice cream. And SweeTreats ice cream shop, located right on the Square in Marietta, is perfectly placed for icy indulgences after a day in the park or a stroll on the Square. SweeTreats has a loyal fan base including one family, who makes quite a quest each week for ice cream. Every Sunday they travel about thirty miles from Gwinnett County to Marietta Square. The ice cream at SweeTreats is worth the trip, they say. They discovered the delectables on a trip to Highlands, N.C., and delighted at a SweeTreats there. The quaint, historic city of Acworth, Georgia now has a very special venue for those very special events. It is located in the beautiful building next door to the Waterstone Grill, formerly "The Teacup Cottage". Renamed "The Conservatory at Waterstone Grill," it boasts great structural interior features including wrought iron throughout the building, an indoor brick walkway, beautiful interior antique brick walls, and a second story mezzanine which could look down on the activities below. There are no spaces left for BBQ contestants or sponsors, but the public is invited and encouraged to attend the City of Kennesaw's annual Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival at Adams Park and the Ben Robertson Community Center. This fabulously fun event will be held Friday and Saturday, August 20 & 21. How would you like to explore vintage aircraft and learn about aviation history - for free! The Marietta Museum of History has been working hard to make the Aviation Wing site, acquired earlier this year, ready for visitors when the site officially opens some time early next year. Music fans in Mableton, Georgia will be treated to a blast from the past this Friday - and a doubleheader at that! Two rock bands will be featured at the Mable House Amphitheatre and attendees will hear both for the price of one! Survivor and Starship will hit the stage beginning at 8 PM. Survivor had several hits through the 1980s, including two smash themes from "Rocky" films. The group's big break came in 1982 when Sylvester Stallone commissioned them to write the theme to "Rocky III." These delightful and informal fashion shows are held the first Thursday of each month from 5:00-6:00pm. Just gather at Old Ephraim's Restaurant, 70 S. Park Square Marietta, and become inspired by the latest looks. After the show, enjoy some great homemade food at this new hotspot in downtown Marietta.
