Now that the first month of 2012 has come to an end, residents of Marietta, Georgia can for the first time say that they were given access to fresh winter produce. The first Saturday in January saw the opening of the Winter Edition Marietta’s Farmer’s Market and folks were lined up to shop before 9:00 a.m. Alot of our old favorite vendors were there and some new ones. Yes, there are such things as winter vegetables -- gorgeous brocolli, greens, turnips and squash to mention a few. Prepared comfort food is also available to soothe the winter chill. The first week of the summer months ushers in the First Friday Art Walk on Marietta Square. A self-guided tour around the Square will connect you with more than 30 merchants who will host artists in their stores. Participating merchants will host in-store events and stay open until at least 8:00 pm in the evening. This month's First Friday Art Walk will feature Artists' Alley: an intimate exhibit of juried artists showing wide variety of styles and will be located in warehouse space at Dupre's Antique Market, 17 Whitlock Avenue. Marietta, Georgia has the just the way to kick off the Memorial Day Weekend. The Glover Park Concert Series continues with Neons playing 70's and 80's music. The concert is on Friday, May 27 at 8 p.m. in and around the park Marietta Square. It is free of charge but if you're looking for a "front-row seat," a limited number of tables can be reserved -- $45 for tables of six and $55 for tables for eight. A fundraiser that is a feast for the eyes is underway in Marietta, Georgia. The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art is featuring a show house that will highlight a new home design, as well as top local interior designers. Located at 21 Whitlock Drive and built by Marietta Developer Mark Kirk, the home features 16 rooms which were decorated by 21 designers. The adjacent Lawrence House, built in 1870, will serve as a gallery for southeastern artwork and jewelry. Thirty percent of all sales will benefit the museum. Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society's annual Plant Sale is an excellent chance to purchase perennials, shrubs, and other foliage for the spring planting season. Locals have had April 2nd circled on their calendars for months. This divine date marks the return of the Marietta Farmers Market. This wonderful showcase for local farmers, bakers, chefs - you name it -returns for the 2011 season. 2010 was the Marietta's Farmers Market most successful season yet and they plan on this season to be even bigger.
