**I've just posted my first referral ** UPDATED..interesting turn out. - 02/22/08 11:45 AM
I am pretty excited to be referring my first potential buyer to another agent in the AR community.
This buyer contacted me via my web-site.  I gave her a call to find out she isn't even interested in my area of
Tennessee, but she is wanting to buy in the Nashville, TN area.  Too bad because this is the kind of buyer I am really interested in.  $260,000 - $400,000 and already qualified!!!!
These are exciting times for me.  Rebuilding my real estate business after moving cross country, interest rates so low that buyers are coming from all angles, getting and now … (16 comments)

Identity Theft: Top Complaint by Consumers - 02/21/08 07:24 AM

Have you thought about Freezing your credit report?  Well you can!  You can "Freeze" your credit report to prevent Identity Theft.
Freezing your report isn't for everyone, especially if you are buying something as it will delay any new credit you may need.  If you don't suspect you will be needing access to your report and you are concerned with Identity theft than a Freeze may just be for you.
Until late last year, this wasn't allowed.  The three major credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian) will freeze anyone for only $10 per bureau.
Having a freeze in place keeps any new lines of credit without … (8 comments)

$20 per acre for sale.... - 02/20/08 03:52 PM
Want some land with a view?  Well hurry, because prices are expected to rise astronomically.  Dennis Hope, owner of the Lunar Embassy, claimed the moon as his own property in 1980.
Dennis believes he has found a loophole in the 1967 U.N. Outer Space Treaty makes his property assertion legitimate. The agreement forbids governments from owning extraterrestrial property, but fails to mention corporations or individuals.
More than 300,000 people have staked claim to solar ownership.  Once you have purchased your piece of the pie in the sky from the "Head Cheese" you will receive a copy of the Lunar Deed, a … (9 comments)

Cooking is the leading cause of fire injury among seniors. - 02/19/08 04:31 PM
Senior citizens have a higher risk than any other age group for home fire fatalities.
Some 900 adults 65 and older die from blazes each year, and another 2,000 are injured, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.    Seniors are more at risk for many reasons:  less mobility, sight, just to name a couple.
Here are three safety tips to reduce the risk of a fire:
*When working at the stove, never leave flammable materials like potholders or paper towels nearby. *Foods that are cooking should never be left unattendedThe cook should always wear short or tight-fitting clothing, the USFA said. *Be sure to have an escape … (4 comments)

Have you changed the locks on your house? - 02/17/08 01:46 PM
When was the last time you changed the locks on your house?
How many people have had access to your house in the last 5 years.  How many spare keys do you think are out there?
I always advise my clients to change the locks on their doors as soon as possible.  Top priority #1.  This is a huge safety issue.  A person never knows how many keys have been made to get into your home.
So stay safe and get your locks changed.
Have a Fabulous Real Estate Day!!!!

Tax Benefits.... - 02/15/08 01:27 PM
There's no place like home.  There's no place like home.  There's no place like home.
When it comes to tax savings, as a homeowner, there is no place like home.
Homeowners are eligible for an annual tax deduction for mortgage interest and property taxes.
The most significant tax break ( in my opinion ) comes when it is time to sell your house.
Single homeowners can claim up to $250,000 and couples can claim up to $500,000 in profits free of property gain taxes.
P.S.  You must have lived in the house at least 2 of the lat 5 years to get the full deduction.  … (3 comments)

Are you using your house as a piggy bank? - 02/15/08 12:38 PM
Well, I think you should use your house as a piggy bank.  Experts say pay off your mortgage before you retire.
So why are so many "tapping" into their home equity?  While some are doing it to pay for living expenses, others are going on vacations, buying lake houses, etc...
This is risky behavior as this could lead to a lifetime of debt, so find another way to pay for your living expenses, vacations, and lake houses.  Don't tap into your equity.
Remember, even after you have your house paid off, their are always ongoing expenses.
For a clearer picture of just what kind … (9 comments)

Do you have Retirement Confidence? - 02/15/08 11:40 AM
43% of workers say they or their spouse have tried to calculate how much money they need to save for a comfortable retirement.
88% believe their spending in the first five years after retirement will be about the same or lower than in the five years before retirement.
18% could give the correct age at which they will be eligible for full Social Security retirement benefits.
66% plan to work for pay after they retire.
44% have an IRA with money saved outside of an employer's retirement plan.
30% of workers age 25-34 think they will need to save $1 million or more for retirement.

I saw a man stealing a trash can yesterday! - 02/08/08 07:14 AM
I have mainly lived in larger cities and have now been in Oak Ridge, TN for just over a year.  Now people around here say Oak Ridge is not a small town and in comparison to the surrounding towns they are right.
I am still getting used to the small "tiffs" at the stop signs or who is going to let who go first.  No, you go.  No, you go.  At Wal-Mart I find a lot of people making eye contact and smiling.  My neighbors even wave!
Enjoying my morning coffee, I saw a man walking up our hill of a street pulling a … (8 comments)
