Text for Instant Listing Information and Pictures - 11/18/10 08:32 PM
Text for Instant Listing Information and Pictures - Today I went out to the first of my properties to install a new hang sign for instant text information on the listing.  As you can see, I haven't abandoned my Flyer Box, because not everyone has a text plan or internet connection (for the fullest experience), so you still have your choice.  But just remember, the next time it is snowing hard, you don't have to get out of the car to find out more about my listings!

I Met Allan Dalton Today! - 11/17/10 03:59 PM
I Met Allan Dalton Today!  After years of knowing Allan Dalton as the head of Realtor.com and a speaker around the country, today I finally got to meet him in person at a Calcagni Associates Regional Office function at the Farms Country Club in Wallingford.  Allan and RisMedia put on the presentation to all the Calcagni Associates offices, and what he had to say was quite enlightening and thought-provoking.  I will be reading his book, Leveraging Your Links over the next few days, and I look forward to putting his ideas to practice in my business.
Aside from the fabulous speakers, … (12 comments)

Have You Experienced Ted's Steamed Cheeseburgers Yet? - 11/16/10 07:32 PM
Have You Experienced Ted's Steamed Cheeseburgers Yet?  Be prepared to wait in line as it is usually out the door at lunchtime.  However, the line moves quickly, and it is worth the wait.  Seating is limited, so get there early.  I bring clients from all over to get a quick bite--all are intriqued by the "steamed" nature of the burgers; and then there is the special cheese and the home fries.  This all adds up to a rewarding lunch experience.
Ted's Steamed Cheeseburgers is conveniently located about 30 seconds off I-691 on Broad Street.  Easy on and off at 1046 Broad Street, Meriden.  … (27 comments)

How Do You Communicate? - 11/15/10 04:36 PM
How do you communicate?  Do you mind getting a phone call when you walk in the door from working all day long when you are ready for a nice dinner, not a thinly veiled sales pitch?  How do you feel about the caller (even if it is a friend?) if you tripped over the dog when trying to get to the phone?  You've had a long day and you sit down to watch your favorite show, and the phone rings.  Do you pick it up or do you figure, "They will leave a message"?
As a Realtor, my phone is pretty … (6 comments)

For Safety's Sake - Install a Night Light - 11/14/10 12:44 PM
For Safety's Sake - Install a Night Light - I am a person who likes to do "Green things." I switched most of the light bulbs in my house to CFL.  I turn off my computers, printers, scanners, and monitors when not in use.   I unplug appliances when they are not in use.  But sometimes being green means the house is pretty dark (with the kids away at college, my wife and I don't usually turn on lights for just a few minutes).
After we turned back the clocks last week, our house became noticeably darker at an earlier time. … (11 comments)

Mediterranean Cuisine in Wallingford, Connecticut - 11/13/10 07:58 PM
Mediterranean Cuisine in Wallingford, Connecticut - You may think that 295 Parker Farms Road in Wallingford is a strange place for a restaurant, but you will be pleasantly surprised.  Located across the street from the fairways of the Farms County Club is a little piece of Greece!  Laskara Restaurant is a frequent destination for my family, and always worth the trip.  They know how to treat people well.
Laskara is open Sundays 11:30 A.M. to 9 P.M., Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30 A.M. to 9 P.M., Friday and Saturday 11:30 A.M. to 10 P.M., and they are closed on Mondays.  As this is … (5 comments)

Blackie's Hot Dogs - A Cheshire Tradition for Generations! - 11/12/10 07:12 PM
Blackie's Hot Dogs - A Cheshire Tradition for Generations! - Imagine a hot dog stand that your children love that their great grandparents used to frequent!  That's what you will find in Cheshire with Blackie's Hot Dog Stand!  And what is even more unique, this hot dog stand has always been in the same family since it opened in 1928!  Oh, and did I mention the relish?  Blackie's has the most incredible Hot Pepper Relish! That alone is worth the trip!
So the next time you find yourself in the area, unless it is Friday, be sure to stop by Blackie's Hot Dog … (8 comments)

I came across this photo from a trip to Muir Woods and thought this quote was perfect to go with it!  It would certainly be nice if we could all learn to live by words like this.

Is School Called Off Today? - 11/09/10 01:38 PM
Is school called off today?  Yesterday's freak snowstorm brought to mind how exciting it is for the kids to get a day off from school due to snow (or the possibility of it).  My kids always rejoiced when they received the gift of a snow day, even when they knew they would have to make it up at the end of the year.  Their favorite way to check for school delays or cancellations was Connecticut Weather Inc. because they could refresh the page and watch the list grow until Cheshire High School finally showed up on the list.  Then they could go back to … (6 comments)

Sunny with a High in the 50s? - 11/08/10 08:13 AM
Sunny with a High in the 50s?  Sometime during the night I woke to the sound of ice hitting my windows.  What happened to the "week ahead" (according to the Weather Channel) of Sunny with Highs in the 50s?  I washed my car yesterday, so I guess it is my fault!  Right now it is snowing those amazingly huge flakes that you only see with the first storms of the year . . .

Cheshire's Lights of Hope - 2010 - 11/06/10 07:18 PM
Cheshire's Lights of Hope - Tonight was the annual Cheshire Lights of Hope, and many luminaries lined the streets of town.  A full mile of luminaries on both side of Route 10 was an impressive sight along with a beautiful display at the Cheshire Acadamy and the First Congregational Church.
Cheshire's Lights of Hope mission is to unite as a community by lighting up our town in hope of a better world.  It was established in 2005 to encourage our community to have hope in the midst of the darkness that often seems more prevalent in our world.
I hope that all … (8 comments)

The Path Least Followed - Friday Foto - 11/05/10 07:18 PM
The Path Least Followed - I have always been one of those people who follows that path other do not or marches to the beat of my own drum.  One of the things I love about my property is the abundance of Pachysandra that has multiplied in the eight years we have lived here.  I cannot imagine how much it would have cost me to try to put in the gardens we purchased because we bought a home that was already 40+ years old (and got the 50 foot trees to go with them).

Are you Stuck on a Hamster Wheel? - 11/04/10 04:49 PM
Are you Stuck on a Hamster Wheel?  I just finished reading a great book, The Hamster Revolution by Mike Song, Vicki Halsey & Tim Burress.  It is all about stopping the info-glut in your life and getting your life back; in other words, "How to Manage your e-Mail before it Manages You."  We all feel that way at times, don't we?  Come on, you can admit it!
Having taken my e-PRO certification back in 2003, I already had a handle on many of the things discussed in the book, so for me it wasn't a major revelation; it was more of a … (8 comments)

On Monday, November 22, 2010, at 7:00 P.M., the Cheshire Public Library will present a "Technology Petting Zoo," a hands-on demonstration of eBook readers and other devices.  Library Director Ramona Harten will be in charge of the presentation which is for adults ages 18 and up.  Registration is required, so be sure to check out their website!

Have You Looked at the Links on Your Website Lately? - 11/02/10 08:01 PM
Have You Looked at the Links on Your Website Lately?  With so many things to do on a daily basis, somehow looking through the website you originally developed in 2002 does not rank high on the "to do" list.  Many updates go on over the years, but there are core pages that tend to stay the same.
However, in the past month, I have included a couple of pages from my website in my blog posts (Connecticut Libraries, Connecticut Town Halls, and Connecticut "Things to Do") that had many broken links as things change over the years.  I quickly scrambled to correct the links before too many people … (20 comments)
