Today I had to prepare for a compensation committee meeting.  I had a task on the agenda but had only given thought to it, but not effort.  I guess things had been so crazy with other things that it just didn't take a priority until this morning.  Ironically the result was "Work Life Initiative", yes we all know about this but what do we really do to take it to the next level.  I remember in the late 90's I worked for Deloitte & Touche.  They were cutting edge for an accounting firm to actually have a work life balance program.  Of course we all joked about it, "work now have a life later".  Here it is 2008 and I am still trying to figure out how to have some balance in my life.

Today I decided to write about "Work Life Balance" because I know that in Real Estate it is a difficult thing to have.  As a Realtor you are to be available 24/7 to sell your listings or show your clients houses.  My husband (Paul Jones - Olathe Re/Max) wrote Thank God for My Supportive, Resourceful and Understanding Spouse! I also worte Time, Family and Balance "Do I need Assistance" It was very insightful to me that I was angry with him for doing many of the same things that I do myself. I began to ponder the idea of how this could apply to our situation at home.  We are a business after all "PIC Properties - Paul Jones Re/Max Olathe" , shouldn't we have a Work Life Balance Program?

As I was doing my research I found some words of wisdom to help you with some "Work Life Balance"

Work -Life Balance is not a problem to be solved, but an issue to be managed

I have made an oath to myself to begin today managing my Work-Life Balance!

What I learned today:

•·         There are four life quadrants  | WORK | FAMILY | FRIENDS | SELF |

•·         You should ask yourself daily if you have achieved enjoyment in each of the four quadrants.

•·         If nobody pats you on the back, pat yourself and help others to do the same.

I will leave you with those thoughts and I will be waiting to hear your comments so I will have more guidance in my dedication to maintaining a WORK LIFE BALANCE.

It is hard to believe that summer is almost over.  Oh, I realize there is many nice weather days in my future, but I always associate the end of summer with the beginning of school.  Paul's oldest boy is in the 9th grade this year.  He will be attending Santa Fe Trail Jr. High, in Olathe, KS.  We are both very excited for him to be going to school this year in our community.  He will be playing his first year of school sponsored organized sports.  We are hoping he will enjoy playing football (view 9th grade football schedule)  this year and he experiences many personal growth opportunities at his new school.

If you have a child attending school at Santa Fe Trail, Jr. High you can get all the information on their website.

Relocating to Kansas City, Consider Olathe, KS and it's neighboring cities!

We would suggest our city to anyone who is looking to relocateto the Kansas City Metro area.  The Olathe area offers great schools and affordable housing  This year Olathe, KS ranked #11 for the best cities to live in Money Magazine.  Our neighbor Overland Park, KS ranked #9 and Shawnee, KS ranked #39.

If you are considering relocating to the Kansas City Metro area consider one of these cities

I read your blogs.......

I read your comments.......

I just wonder how some of you find the time to do all that you do.  My normal day is up at 6:30 and to the office at 8am.  On a good day I will be home around 7pm.  I usually get home and change my clothes and open up the laptop.  There I sit the rest of the evening in front of the computer.  I am either working on the website, creating new letters, and now BLOGGING.  I sometimes fit dinner in there somewhere or my husband has a fit.  Then I still need to clean the house, do some laundry (o.k. this is one thing Paul is great at), don't forget my hobbies, the step kids, my daughter, my granddaughter.  When I write it all down I PANIC.  I have to tell myself to take a breath.  Don't get me wrong, I thrive on the challenge.

I wonder to myself what type of assistance you all have to help keep your life in order.  Do you hire  out the lawn care?  Do you have a housekeeper?  I look forward to hearing from all of you!

HELP..... I NEED HELP.....

  • Hey everyone!  It is nice to read all of your blogs.  I have been reading them for a week or so.  Active Rain is new to me and my husband.  I am not a Realtor, (yet anyway).  I took my classes last summer and things just got so crazy I never went and took the test. (oopppss).  I have a full time job.  I am an Asst. Controller for a mid-size company by day and Real Estate marketer by night.  I have been keeping up with all the blogs and using many of the ideas I have found.  Of course, this is not the only blog that I have been visiting.  I have two very demanding jobs.  In between this I try to fit in my family.  I am hoping one day we can be successful and I can quit the day job and work with my husband in OUR business.  That would mean the world to me.  Right now, I have made my goal of age 55 that is just 10 short years from now.  I am looking forward to learning and growing in the years to come.
