Today I had to prepare for a compensation committee meeting. I had a task on the agenda but had only given thought to it, but not effort. I guess things had been so crazy with other things that it just didn't take a priority until this morning. Ironically the result was "Work Life Initiative", yes we all know about this but what do we really do to take it to the next level. I remember in the late 90's I worked for Deloitte & Touche. They were cutting edge for an accounting firm to actually have a work life balance program. Of course we all joked about it, "work now have a life later". Here it is 2008 and I am still trying to figure out how to have some balance in my life.
Today I decided to write about "Work Life Balance" because I know that in Real Estate it is a difficult thing to have. As a Realtor you are to be available 24/7 to sell your listings or show your clients houses. My husband (Paul Jones - Olathe Re/Max) wrote Thank God for My Supportive, Resourceful and Understanding Spouse! I also worte Time, Family and Balance "Do I need Assistance" It was very insightful to me that I was angry with him for doing many of the same things that I do myself. I began to ponder the idea of how this could apply to our situation at home. We are a business after all "PIC Properties - Paul Jones Re/Max Olathe" , shouldn't we have a Work Life Balance Program?
As I was doing my research I found some words of wisdom to help you with some "Work Life Balance"
Work -Life Balance is not a problem to be solved, but an issue to be managed
I have made an oath to myself to begin today managing my Work-Life Balance!
What I learned today:
•· There are four life quadrants | WORK | FAMILY | FRIENDS | SELF |
•· You should ask yourself daily if you have achieved enjoyment in each of the four quadrants.
•· If nobody pats you on the back, pat yourself and help others to do the same.
I will leave you with those thoughts and I will be waiting to hear your comments so I will have more guidance in my dedication to maintaining a WORK LIFE BALANCE.
