Inman TV - Time to face my worst fear. sniff, sniff YIKES! - 06/29/07 11:34 AM
OK, today is a first.
I've turned down every offer to have a camera in my face to date...even 60 minutes.
Why I said yes is this is as a dry run for future requests.
I am deathly afraid of people seeing me talk in a podcast.  I've TALKED in a podcast for Inman before, but I was sitting in my house, not in front of a camera.  I've done the Radio Show twice, but nope...not seeing ARDELL talk.  I've talked in person, of course, many many times.
BUT this will be my first ever talking where people can see me talking on a You Tube … (25 comments)

ONE simple rule to MORE EFFECTIVE blogging - 06/28/07 01:31 PM
TAKE YOUR VERY LAST SENTENCE, AND BRING IT UP TO YOUR FIRST PARAGRAPH, and then re-examine your choice of Title.
Here's a good example in this link.
I write in "stream of consciousness" style.  For that reason, I often don't realize how the article is going to twist and turn and get to...until I get to the end.  By "talking to yourself" in this manner, you explore the possibilities of the story and find the key points along the way.
Then I take a step back and look at where that journey ended up.  Here's how the thought process went.  I saw this … (20 comments)

City of Miami recognizes Kevin Tomlinson's Blog - 06/28/07 01:31 AM
The City of Miami has added a blog to their website.
Lots of links to websites, but in the lower right hand corner, they have added the category of "BLOGS" and there is only ONE blog listed.
Kevin Tomlinson's blog!
His is the City of Miami's one and ONLY blog.  Lots of progress in only ten weeks!
As I said when I started this thing...I am a VERY lucky Coach!  Way to go KEVIN!!

Brad Carroll posted this screen shot showing Kev's blog & my house - 06/28/07 12:09 AM

Total coincidence, but Kevin's blog is the same color theme as my home!
I had no input when they added the green, except that I didn't like the previous red color.  And look at that!!
Up in the banner are three photos from my home and Kevin's Blog matches my home decor.
Very Twilight Zone...

Teresa Boardman - 'nuff said - 06/27/07 09:54 AM

At 6:38 a.m. I sat at my computer with one eye open and my first coffee of the day and found a heads up from Teresa Boardman about a post she wrote titled  Ode to Ardell.  My first thought was, isn't there already a post with that name?  My second thought was "What happened to Jon Ernest?" who hasn't blogged here since a few days before I came here?  Is he OK?  That's the difference between "blogging" and "being a blogger".
I read Teresa's post and here's what she didn't say.  Teresa took the time to pick up the phone and call … (17 comments)

When do you "hook up" your blog to your website? - 06/26/07 11:50 AM
I gave Kevin the green light to hook up his blog to his website yesterday.  But first we need to decide about the red type.
It amazes me when people contact me and ask "How do I get people to read my blog" and I go to the blog and it has nothing on it or one post saying, "Hi, have a blog now". LOL
Truth be told, by giving my best advices as a Coach, I also prevented Kevin from winning the competition.
If Kevin were a new agent like some of the Apprentices, I wouldn't have held him back so much.  But … (16 comments)

99,999 points - hanging at the pinnacle - 06/26/07 10:45 AM
ARDELL DellaLoggia - Real Estate Agent Score: 99999
My Broker just came in laughing and said, "Did you see your POINTS?"  Actually I was too busy doing other things to notice.
I decided to copy and paste the 99,999 points into this post to mark the date and time for posterity.  Some day will we all be posting when we have 999,999 points?  Or 999,999,999 points?
Scary thought, isn't it? :)
I see Neal Bloom is already inviting me to the Silver Hall of Fame Group.  That Neal doesn't miss a trick, does he?
Hey Neal.  I need 1 more point!!!  Be patient.  I'll … (33 comments)

Your opinion requested - does the red type look OK to you? - 06/26/07 10:18 AM
The time is getting near for us to let our Apprenctices go.  Project Blogger is in it's final weeks, and so we need to step back and say,"Are we done?"  and if not, make those final advices.
It is difficult for me to "step back", and so I ask for your final suggestions.  Truth be told, I didn't like the red type from day one.  But while I have been cracking the whip on many, many things, I decided maybe it was just my personal preference and let it go.
So before we are "done" with the project, I ask your opinion.  I … (53 comments)

Got VOICE? Does your Blog SAY something worth talking about? - 06/24/07 03:47 PM
To start the ball rolling, I wrote a "BlogVoice" post yesterday.  A BlogVoice post will garner more and deeper information on the topic at hand, in the comments.  You don't have to include everything there is to say about the topic in the article itself.  In fact, if you cover everything, you leave no space for the story to unfold more and more in the comments.
That is one of the main differences between "Stream of Consciousness" blogging (which is primarily my style and forte) and writing posts that take four days.  Sometimes you just want to say something you want to … (40 comments)

Hey Apprentices! Get Over Yourselves!!! - 06/22/07 10:10 PM
OK, I've about had it with all of the whining around here :)
Me, me, me, me, me, me, me.  Some are quitting and some are whining and some are outright freaking out!
Take a chill pill!
As your punishment, I want EVERY Apprentice to write a post on the following:
1) List your top 10 favorite Active Rain Bloggers (and not your own!)
2) List your top 10 favorite Real Estate Blogs NOT on Active Rain (and not your own!)
3) Pick one piece of advice from EACH COACH and list it in a blog post for others to learn from.  NOT a link to a coach article … (34 comments)

The Power of a Successful Blog Voice - 06/20/07 10:47 AM
I'm sure many of you have attended some powerful in person seminars.  One's that inspire and charge you up to go out and move mountains!
The industry that educates, inspires and motivates agents is huge.  It is also built on the theory that "you can't swing a dead cat in this town without hitting a real estate agent."  The Seminar Industry is built on the theory that every agent wants to gain an edge.  Agents want more knowledge in order to gain that edge.
Agents want to take away something from these seminars that will empower them, and enable them to gain an edge on … (26 comments)

Joe "The Hat" DeLoggio - My Dad - Happy Father's Day - 06/17/07 12:31 PM

The above photo is of my Dad when I was 3 year's old.  The one below is the last one of him before he died when I was 19.

I only ever remember giving him one Father's Day Present, since he died a year after I got out of high school and started working.  It was a little key fob with his intitial.  But I couldn't get a J for Joe, so I used a G for Guiseppe.  His real name was Guiseppe Pasquale DellaLoggia, but got changed to Joseph Patrick DeLoggio inadvertently somewhere in his life.
Every Day was, … (12 comments)

Getting Houses Ready For Market - Off with the Wallpaper! - 06/17/07 12:12 PM
I'm spending an inordinate amount of time getting a property ready for market in Edmonds.  Sometimes it is hard to make that decision to remove the wallpaper, but we will NOT paint over it.  That makes it SO much harder for the next owner to remove.
Yesterday all of the walls were freshly painted after the wallpaper was removed in the Living Room, Dining Room, Master bedroom and master bath.  We left the paper in the first floor half bath and the second floor hall bath.  It's very sedate and I think we can get away with it.  The rest of the … (17 comments)

What Does "Bait and Switch" Blogging Say About You? - 06/13/07 05:05 PM
Driving traffic to your site, should not be done simply for the ego of the numbers.  EVERYTHING that we do on our blogs relflects on how we will likely operate out in the world as agents.
The true purpose of a blog is not simply to provide content people may like to read, like a magazine.  It is to give the reader a glimpse at who you are and how you think.
For this reason, I DO NOT and DID NOT tell Kevin to...trick people into going to his site outside of Active Rain by saying "READ MORE...  Last night I saw a comment … (256 comments)

Closing Tomorrow - Signed Yesterday and Today - 06/12/07 11:03 AM
No matter how often I say it and write about it, seems people's minds get stuck at Closing Day = Signing Day, which on the West Coast is not the case.
For a property closing tomorrow, the buyer signed yesterday and the seller will be signing today.  Closing involves Recording the property into the new owner's name at the County.  So in order for a property to close on time, the buyer and seller both need to sign a day or two in advance of closing.
Most lenders require a 24 hour review of the signed loan documents.  So the buyer should sign … (18 comments)

Home As Seen From The Freeway - 06/11/07 10:32 PM

I've passed this house many times when driving by on I-5.  We often get off just past this house when getting off at Ravenna and heading toward Green Lake.
I never head back to where this house is located.  I'm told it's closer to the University of Washington.  The red curtains in the upper window hint at confirming my suspicions about the house :)
I put it up today at Rain City Guide, hoping somone in Seattle will comment there and give us more of the story of how this artwork came to be, and was allowed to stay, on a house in … (22 comments)

Sopranos - What Did You Think Of The Final Episode? - 06/11/07 01:47 AM

The people over at my house were not nearly is disappointed as the commenters on my RCG post.
Maybe it was because they had plenty of food and wine, great company, and a good time was had by all.  We even saw it twice, and no one was complaining about the ending.
I did think the TV went out the first time around and a big intake of breath as I thought OH NO!  Not NOW!  What timing for the TV to decide to go caput!
Did you see it?  What did you think?

Picking Links for your Sidebar - 06/05/07 02:28 PM
Further to mine of earlier today, I'm going to start investigating some links and post them here before adding them to the actual blog.  You can change your sidebar links at any time, so you don't have to worry about getting them all correctly the first time.
Here's my thought process:
People will want to know what the weather is like on any given day, so let's give our everyday readers the weather report in Miami Beach, Florida with this link:
92°FCloudyWind: SW at 13 mphHumidity: 45% Tue85°F | 74°F Wed83°F | 76°F Thu84°F | 76°F Fri84°F | 75°F
I prefer for the above info … (1 comments)

Write your VERY FIRST Blog Post Now - 06/05/07 02:02 PM
I think it would be a great exercise for everyone to write a NEW very first blog article.
If you could start all over again and write your first article, knowing what you know now, that you didn't know then, what would it look like?
Would you write it to buyers of real estate?  Sellers of real estate?  Agents?  Your Mom?  Would it be about real estate, or a restaurant, or why you got into this business or why you stayed in the business?
Would it be informational, educational, fun and frivolous or by way of introduction to you?
What is the single most important piece of … (14 comments)

Top Five Questions Buyers Ask at First Contact - 06/05/07 01:03 PM
1)  How much home can I afford?
2)  How much do I have to give as an Earnest Money Deposit?
3)  What happens to the Earnest Money Deposit?
4)  How much time do I have to cancel the contract and get my Earnest Money back?
5)  How long do you think it will take for me to find a house I want to buy?
Most of the questions revolve around the starting portion of the relationship, and rarely go to the end of the transaction, like how do I get the keys to my new house or what is escrow.

Providing a bit of Transparency in your Blogging - 06/03/07 07:08 PM
There is a misconception in the Blogosphere that "Transparency" means "Airing Dirty Laundry".  Airing a little dirty laundry now and again, is more about Credibility than Transparency.  When you acknowledge that everything is not always perfect, you become more credible.
Transparency is a completely different topic.  Transparency involves that gray area that follows AFTER the Absolute Answer.
Example - Home Inspection
Absolute Answer:  Yes, you should have one.
Gray Areas:
Which inspector should you hire and WHY?
Are some inspectors better for some houses than others, or are they all equal regardless of house age and type?
What things WON'T the inspector report on, like lead based paint and … (36 comments)

Buying a House Should be a HAPPY TIME!! - 06/03/07 05:55 PM
Are you writing a blog post today about some of the steps involved in Purchasing a Home?
Let's not forget who VERY EXCITING that is!
Someone's first HOME!  It's FUN!  It's EXCITING!  Everyone remembers their first :)
Yes, there's a lot involved...but sometimes..not really.
Sometimes it's about being carried over the theshold by your new husband.
Sometimes it's a symbol of a new life together.
Almost always it is a happy event, when the dust settles, and the papers are all signed, and you get the keys and OH BOY!  MY FIRST HOUSE!!
Don't forget to blog about your happiest clients EVER!  NOT because they were happy with … (9 comments)
