Buyers & Sellers Using the Internet - 05/25/07 11:02 AM
In the latest Austin Board of REALTORS® publication there was a blurb about buyers and sellers using the internet.  We all know that this has been happening, but have you seen recent numbers?  "In Austin, buyers and sellers favored the Internet:  69% of buyers searched for homes online, and 85% of sellers used the Internet to market their homes."  I find the 85% interesting as it sounds low to me.
In addition, the piece stated that nationally and locally, 36% of buyers found the home they ended up buying through real estate agents.  It went on to say that 27% of local … (1 comments)

Guess Who's Selling Your Personal Information - 05/22/07 12:52 PM
Looks Who's Selling Your Personal Information   Your think your personal financial information is private, right? Think again! The major credit bureaus have found a new profit center, and it's selling your personal financial information. When you apply for a mortgage, within 24 hours you will start receiving phone calls from "competing" lenders. You just became a "trigger lead."
Maybe that sounds good to you. A little competition is healthy. That might be true if the competition were honest. The risks of trigger leads abound and in my opinion far outweigh the benefits of increased competition. (It's not like you … (2 comments)

Austin's Most Expensive Listing - 05/21/07 05:31 PM
Ever wonder if there are really expensive homes in Austin, TX?  Well the most expensive one in the MLS today is a 15,869 square foot home on over 10 acres on Lake Austin.  It comes with a helicopter hanger that has an apartment, guest house, a great pool, a nice boat house/dock and a few other goodies.  Check out the home on Selma Hughes Park Rd.  Don't forget to click on the photo so you can see more. … (1 comments)

Multiple Offers in Texas - 05/14/07 03:13 PM
Avis Wukasch, Texas Association of REALTORS® Chairman, wrote a goot article about how to handle multiple offers in Texas.  She talks about certain TAR forms that people don't use, but should.  Avis also talks about the escalation clause, which agents have used, but absolutely should not use.  It is a good read.  Check out Avis' multiple offer article. … (0 comments)

The Lake Is Up - 05/12/07 01:50 PM
Lake Travis is back to where it needs to be.  After a prolonged drought, the area that drains into Lake Travis has had quite a bit of rain.  A couple of days ago, Lake Travis cracked the 672 feet above sea level height, putting it at about its normal level for this time of year.  Lake Travis hasn't been "normal" since 2005.  Coming into a summer that will bring a high demand for water and evaporation, it sure is nice to have water again.  Just two months ago the lake was around 40 feet below full and about 30 feet below … (0 comments)

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser - 05/05/07 04:10 PM
I did a transaction a month ago and one of the guys on the other end is former UT Longhorn football player Stevie Lee.  A couple of weeks later I ran into the lady planning an annual fund-raiser to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  They have always had a former UT athlete as an attraction to sign autographs, etc., but this year they couldn't find anyone.  I called Stevie and asked if he would be involved.  Not only did Stevie want to do it, but he got his buddy, Tony Jeffery, involved as well.  Stevie and Tony played on the team … (1 comments)

Do You Like Freaky Numbers? - 05/05/07 01:07 PM
On the 6th of this month there will be an interesting numerical phenomenon.  At 02:03:04 AM (hour, minute, second) the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 will line up because the date will be 5/6/07.  Technically it will be 02:03:04 05/06/07, but is really is pretty interesting.  Should anyone care?  Maybe the folks who sell lottery tickets will see these numbers.

Special Olympics - 05/03/07 02:29 PM
I had a real treat today.  My Rotary Club sponsored a luncheon for the Lake Travis ISD Special Olympians.  This was their awards banquet.  I had the honor of helping one of the athletes lead the Pledge of Allegiance and I also got to hang a medal around another's neck and hand him a certificate.
This was special for me as I have known 6 of these kids since they were in 7th and 8th grade and now some are graduating from high schools.  These kids always greet me with a huge smile and a high 5, a handshake or a hug.

2007 Relay For Life Lake Travis - 05/01/07 02:19 PM

Isn't this a great shot?  This is the 2007 Relay For Life of Lake Travis (Austin, TX area).  The shot was taken by Scott Payne, who owns Periscope Photography.  The event wasn't huge in terms of numbers, but the show was excellent.  People found it to be moving, meaninfgul and memorable.
