It Sure is Nice to Get Away - 07/30/07 01:43 PM

I left Austin to go to Utah for a few days last week.  This was where my daughter and I met up with family.  Being in a place without TV, internet and email was really refreshing.  We actually huhg out, talked and didn't even think about work.

This is the kind of scenery I was stuck with every day.  What a great place for hiking, laying in a hammock and sitting around a fire at night.  If you've got to get away and recharge your batteries, this is the place!
Now I'm back and the trip seems like a blur.  Isn't that the … (2 comments)

More Rain For Texas - 07/24/07 09:37 AM
In Central Texas, we could't buy rain for much of the last three years.  That changed in a huge way this June and it hasn't stopped.  The average rainfall for Austin for an entire year is around 32 inches.  We have recorded over 34 inches already in 2007.  The rains haven't fallen over a small area either.  There have been significant flood events all over central and South Texas.  Marble Falls gor hammered in June with 18 inches in around 6 hours.  The Highland Lakes watershed got enough rain in late June and early August to create flooding along almost all … (1 comments)

Getting High Again in Austin - 07/19/07 03:24 PM
What?  No, it isn't what you think.  What I am talking about is the breaking ground of a 42-story condo tower in downtown Austin next week.  The tower is called Spring and will have 36 floors of condos and the rest for underground parking and retail at street level.  Read more about Spring in Austin. … (1 comments)

MLXchange and Photos = Potential Problem - 07/13/07 01:30 PM
The Austin area is switching from Tempo to MLXchange for MLS use in November.  I have found a problem with how photos display in MLXchange.  Small photos that look OK in Tempo look terrible in MLXchange.  This is because MLXchange displays the photos larger than Tempo does.
If you have loaded photos that are smaller than 640x480, check your listing in MLXchange to see how they look.  If they are pixelated or blurry, you need now photos.
When you email a link to a listing to a client and they pull up the photos, they see lousy looking shots as well.

This Post is to Gripe - 07/13/07 10:03 AM
I have a couple of buyers looking for Lake Travis view or waterfront properries and I am amazed to see old photos still in the MLS that show the lake 40 feet low.  These photos make many properties look terrible.  I just don't understand listing agents who are too lazy to go out and get new phots when the lake is up and looking so great.  Do they really want to sell these homes?  By the way, I expect a comment from Danny! … (2 comments)

My Blog is #4 - 07/07/07 04:14 PM
Hey Rain bloggers - not to brag (OK, just a little) I just wanted to share that my Austin Real Estate Guy blog is #4 on Google for the term Austin real estate blog.  I started it November 8 after upgrading to the Point2 premium package, which pfovides a blog from the site.  I think my ranking is good because of my sites rank and because I post fairly often.  In case you're wondering, my site just jumped from #8 to #4.  Anyone using Point2 who has not upgraded might want to consider it. … (0 comments)

Lake Travis Flooding - 07/02/07 11:38 AM
This is Lake Travis from the Iguana Grill a couple of months ago.  As you can see, the lake was pretty low then.  We had been in a drought for around three years and the future wasn't looking good - until...

This is the lake after consistent rain, including around 19 inches in Marble Falls a few days ago.  Lake Travis came up 12 feet in a day and is still rising.  Even with four floodgates open, the lake has a tremendous amount of water flowing in from upstream.  With more rain expected over the next few days, I don't know when … (1 comments)
