That is what the Austin American Statesman ran an article about this week. As usual, the press loves a headline that doesn't tell the whole story. Sales of homes in the Austin five county area for March of this year were only up 1% over last year. What a crisis! Funny,

Companies owning office space in Austin are pretty happy right now. According to the Statesman a few days ago, the Austin area's office space is showing the lowest vacancy rate in six years. As a result, rents in the downtown area are right up there, being the highest in 6 years.

I read last week that the unemployment rate in Austin is down to 3.8%. This is as close to full employment as I have seen since the height of the dot com days. When you consider that about 3% of the work force is unemployable, this is an amazing statistic. Job

Dell is hiring in the Austin area - not just hiring, but hiring for high paying positions. By February of next year Dell expects to hire 500 additional engineers in Round Rock. Round, Rock, a suburb of Austin to the north, absolutely exploded with growth when Dell located its headquarters there.
