The City of Mesa Library was spotlighted by the Federal Depository Library Program for their outstanding efforts to create a visible and usable depository collection.  There are over 1,250 libraries nationwide that participate in the Federal Depository Library Program, which provides the public access to information from the Federal Government.  For the month of December, the Mesa Public Library Depository was profiled and featured on the Federal Depository Library Program's website.

The U.S. Census Bureau has opened a new area office in Mesa at 1102 N. Higley, Suite 101.   A "Spirit of Community Celebration" grand opening ceremony was held at with remarks from Mesa Mayor Scott Smith and others. "The new office will help emphasize the key messages that the 2010 Census is easy, it's safe, and it's important!" Lace up your running shoes and grease up your wheels for the first annual Run, Walk & Roll 5K/10K race will be held on Sat., Jan. 9, 2010 at Tempe Town Lake beach park, 620 N. Mill Ave., Tempe, AZ.  Both 5K (3.1 miles) and 10K (6.2 miles) races will begin at Tempe Town Lake Beach Park and wind through the banks of the lake.  Also included is a .5 mile fun run for kids 12 and under.  Participants of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to register for both 5K and 10K races.
