dfw: Big Changes Coming to DFW in the next 10 Years - 03/11/17 04:13 PM
Everything is Bigger in Texas, and about to get even BIGGER in Dallas-Fort Worth! DFW is about to undergo some changes over the next decade, all impacted largely by one thing only: population growth. Mike Eastland, CEO of the North Central Texas Council of Governments, says Dallas-Fort Worth aims to be innovative with preserving natural resources and meeting the demands of a booming city.
Dallas anticipates a growth in population from 7.3 million to about 9 million people by 2027. Small suburban towns can expect tenfold their current population, within the same amount of time!

dfw: Summer is Here. We Need You... and Your Home! - 06/09/15 03:12 AM
So, you're pretty "in touch" with the happenings of Dallas. And you keep abreast of the real estate market. Things look HOT, right? Well, I'm here to tell you, that even though the real estate market has improved over the last couple of years, we have yet to reach full recovery – inventory is still low! Demand has increased dramatically. And housing inventory is still hard to come by, especially at the entry level...
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) revealed that there is a pent-up seller demand... all different causes, one of which might be great financing rates that continue to be historically the best in certain … (0 comments)

dfw: Deep Ellum Race! Urban Race + Instagram Scavenger Hunt - 04/16/15 03:40 AM
Don't you just crave a good Scavenger Hunt, sometimes? Like the old days of working together, figuring out clues and making the jog to your next destination?
The 2nd Annual Deep Ellum Urban Race is coming up, April 25th. Think ‘The Amazing Race’, but with a Deep Ellum vibe. The challenges range from pop-culture trivia to local history, with your team (2-4 people) working together on such tasks as painting murals, crafting instruments, and solving brain bending riddles.
And what better way to wind down then with cold drinks, music, and games. Once you’ve finished the race, kick back at a super cool … (1 comments)

dfw: 'Swap and Flea' Event this weekend. Get ready to bargain! - 04/16/15 03:13 AM
Have some dough to spend and love all things unique? AWESOME!
This Sunday, April 19th, The Gypsy Wagon will become home to the annual Swap and Flea event and I can't wait. It's a 6 hour swap meets flea market meets vendor meetup that allows bargain hunters (like me) to come and grab some unique loot for a pretty good deal!
The whole premise is to eliminate the far drive for a really good voyage into the art of junking (and rehabing and refinishing and retrofitting...). And the creators didn't want a whole bunch of beaded tube socks, jewelry, or macrame arts-and-crafts. This … (2 comments)

dfw: Big D Reads - Dallas Book Club + Events = FUN! - 04/16/15 02:55 AM
I've just become aware of a pretty cool initiative here in Dallas, for a community-wide book club and sharing experience that is in it's second year. 'Big D Reads' as it's called, is geared toward 9th grade students of DISD. They produce literally dozens of special events centered on one book, including an opening event, a closing party, poetry slams, educational events/speakers, movie screenings, a festival at Klyde Warren Park, and as many other community interactions as the budget allows. Simultaneously, 17,000 books are distributed to DISD students, as well as DART riders, hospital waiting rooms, and every branch of the … (0 comments)

dfw: Repeat Earthquakes - Do they carry risk for my home's value? - 01/06/15 07:31 AM
North Texas has never really been on the map for being known as Earthquake prone property. But we sure are establishing ourselves in short order! Irving, my hometown, has experienced over a dozen earthquakes in the last year. Another occurred yesterday (and the day before), logging it up to a 3.7 magnitude - enough to be felt by those in Fort Worth and as far as my neighborhood in East Dallas.
So the question that pops to mind is the impact that continuing earthquakes like this will have on the housing market. There are so many variables that we tend to … (1 comments)

dfw: Me Against Myself - 12/30/14 03:46 AM
I'm not much of a resolution girl. So, I think this is going to be my promise for next year — to be resolute. The definition of the word is “admirably purposeful, determined, unwavering.” That’s something I can get behind! I feel like with a lot of the stress of this last year, it was incredibly easy to feel sapped creatively, physically, and emotionally. In 2015, I’m looking for calmer water — which makes having admirable purposeand determination a whole lot easier! So, no gym membership or quitting a bad habit. My resolution is for resolution, both in life and in … (4 comments)

dfw: Is Real Estate Superficial? Are Realtors Materialistic? - 09/17/14 09:23 AM

There's an old adage about real estate, applicable to many professions - that it takes money to make money. But does this mean that real estate is a materialistic profession? Maybe the wrong question to ask I sit in the middle of the glitz of a Dallas skyline… nonetheless, it may be interesting to reflect on the resources at daily use of a Realtor, if you're thinking about joining the industry or maybe observing from an outsiders perspective.
The Car
As with many big city slickers, Dallas Realtors are notorious for their vehicle. And while I don't care to expose … (3 comments)

dfw: Routine Maintenance Minder! - 09/12/14 05:34 AM
Ummm, hello Fall! It's 70° outside right now, which is a bit of a shock to the system (welcome, I might add) and got me thinking about seasonal maintenance on your home.
I have a 'maintenance minder' on my car, a little computer reminder when the time comes to get an oil change or an alert if my tire pressure is low. I can't tell you how thankful I am for that, since life seems to blur by at times.
So, in order to get the most out of your home and the elements within, I created a handy Preventative Maintenance … (1 comments)

dfw: New Commercial Development - Strip Center Details in East Dallas - 06/06/14 02:21 AM
East Dallas has been under quite the buzz with speculation and hypothesis of what is to come for the dust filled corner of Gaston and Garland Avenue. What served for many years as the hub of weekend activity with a Latin Dance Club, it saw many years prior to as a vacant lot with a shell of commercial space.
For a short time, the YMCA located in the strip center and has since moved across to the East Side of Gaston. With money and new homeowners coming to East Dallas, the city has taken notice.

Just released is this sample … (0 comments)

Summer Camp is fast approaching! And that means that registration will come due here soon. If you are curious about finding the right Summer Camp for your child(ren), consider reviewing some of these area Camps, along with 10 Questions to ask When Choosing a Summer Camp:
1. What's the camp philosophy?
Is it one you're comfortable with as a parent? Is it a good match for your child's temperament?
2. How does the camp recruit, screen and train its staff?
Do counselors have criminal background checks? First aid training?
3. What about return rates?
How many counselors are returning this year? … (2 comments)

dfw: Weekly Mortgage Rates: 30yr Fixed - 4.625%; 15yr Fixed - 3.75% - 01/07/14 11:59 PM
Mortgage rates saw moderate change throughout the short week of the New Year Holiday, while the US economic and employment outlooks improved. Jobless Claims were better than expected, remaining below their 350,000 cap for an improving job market.  While Pending Home Sales fell slightly short of their expectations, the Dallas Manufacturing index and Construction Spending both beat their expectations - I keep close ties with the civil engineering and surveying business here locally, and can attest that things are improving greatly.  The Consumer Confidence index far shattered it's estimate, as American views of current economic conditions jumped the highest since April, 2008. … (0 comments)

dfw: New Priorities - 2014 Housing Predictions in Dallas-Fort Worth - 01/02/14 10:12 AM
Getting yourself in order for the New Year? Maybe that means reflecting on the year passed - what it brought to you, and what you brought in return. Losing weight, quitting that bad habit, picking up a good habit? Did you think about making it a resolution to get your finances and budget in order for homeownership? Or upgrading your homes condition, even moving-up into the home that you've had your eye on?
With a new year comes new opportunity. There are many predictors and expectations, and if we base our activity for this year off of what we experienced in … (2 comments)
