For those of us who have made the Gilbert Farmers Market part of our Saturday morning routine, the good news is it will continue through the summer but will be open an hour earlier at 7AM. If you haven’t been there yet you are missing the freshest produce available. Locally grown, chemical free, organic-there is no better way to promote healthy eating for you and your family. Located at 222 N Ash in downtown Gilbert-just look for the water tower.

Even though I go to the Farmers Market for the veggies I always come away excited about the unique handcrafted items local crafters contribute. Last week I found the perfect unique gift for clients who recently bought a home with a built in wine cabinet. Kristi Luper of East Valley Glass Art makes cheese plates by melting wine bottles in her own back yard. She adds decorative grapes and a cheese spreader. You’ll want to display it when not in use so be sure to purchase the stand, too. You can also see her creations at www.evglassart.com.

Other participants include Harvest Bread Co., Made By Bees, Zen Fusion Tea, local farms and ranches and more.

Are All Gilbert New Home Builders Created Equal? Driving anywhere in Gilbert south of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway, you will see flags flying over new home sales offices. The builder’s signs will tell you the name of the subdivision and a rounded off starting price for the homes they are building in that new home subdivision.

New homes in Gilbert

You probably know the general area you want to build your home in because of your commute work or maybe you are looking for a certain school district. But there are many other questions that need to be answered to assure your new home purchase will be a smooth and rewarding experience. For example:

What price range will you be searching? Will there be closing costs? What can you expect your monthly payments to be?

What are the current builder incentives of each builder who has a floor plan that will fit your wish list and budget? The builder incentives can be generous but can have fine print you need to consider.
What are some of the features one builder considers standard and the next considers an upgrade you pay for? The answer to this varies widely from builder to builder and can add substantially to the final price.
Are there lot premiums? Details such as lot size vary between subdivisions?
Would an inventory home be a better option for you and how can you receive alerts when a home meeting your criteria becomes available in any of your preferred new home subdivisions?
Does the builder have a history of delivering a new home when promised or do they often have delays costing you extra money because you can’t move into your new home when you planned?
How is their customer service after closing?
Do they deliver more then promised or cut corners on construction you’ll never see until there is a problem after you move in? Should you consider hiring a professional to conduct a series of inspections as the home is being built?

You could go from one new home sales office after another gathering information and comparing one builder to the next builder. Remember the person waiting for you in the sales office is the agent of the builder and is more interested in the builder’s bottom line than yours. You will only buy 1 or 2 new homes in a lifetime, but as your Realtor I will assist you in getting the answers you need to make an informed decision. There is a new mural on the south facing wall of the Gilbert American Legion building? The entire wall has become a canvas to depict The Town of Gilbert in the World War 1 era.Gilbert Leadership Class XXI and Mary K Opat, a muralist and fine art painter, bought this wall to life during the month of April and on May 1 from 5:30-7pm a grand opening celebration will honor Gilbert’s newest piece of art and the open space adjacent to it which will be a small park.

As a Gilbert resident for many years I have often tried to remember what the train depot that stood in that area was like. The mural seems a perfect tribute to a time when the depot was serving citizens of Gilbert.

Why not make May 1 an evening to stroll in Gilbert ‘s Heritage District not only for the mural celebration but to get free BBQ at Joe’s Real BBQ Customer Appreciation Day and then enjoy the Gilbert High School Artfest at the Gilbert High School.

When I was growing up (many years ago) and one of my siblings or I had an emotional out burst (that's right, grandchildren, your generation didn't invent them), we were told we being a Sarah Bernhardt. I never really knew anything about her accept that she was an actress and must have been good being dramatic.

Today I read a quote I really liked and was surprised to see it was from Sarah Bernhardt. It seemed so appropriate for the present, I couldn't believe someone said it over 100 years ago.

"Energy creates energy. It is by spending oneself that one becomes rich." Sarah Bernhardt, actress.

I had to look into the life of this insightful woman and I found she was quite a woman in her time (1844-1923). She is referred to in many articles as the "mother of all divas". Besides being an actress, she was a painter, sculptor, writer, and savvy business woman. Her resonant voice and deeply emotional acting made her famous as did her shocking behavior. It was rumored she napped in a coffin, wore men's clothes (even took male acting roles), and had many love affairs including Victor Hugo, and Albert Edward the Prince of Wales.

Today, Sarah's words are still true. We can all create positive energy by listening, giving a word of encouragement, a smile, or a helping hand. Pay for the coffee of the person behind you at Star Bucks, start a conversation with the elderly lady who is having lunch alone, toss a ball with the neighbor boy, sincerely thank the grocery bagger, be extra nice to your spouse and children, send a card to that aunt you haven't talked to in years. Give-give-give that positive energy. It will return to you and you will be rich beyond measure.

Gilbert Arizona's Hale Centre Theatre has a block buster season year planned for live theater lovers. Here Lies Jeremy Troy started December 31 to a sell out audience and will continue until February 12. Hello Dolly will delight audiences from February 17 through April 12. After that don't miss Man with the Pointed Toes, Over the River and Through the Woods and Little Shop of Horrors.

The Children's Theatre will delight the younger crowd as well as us young at heart adults with Cindrella March 5 through May 21, Pinocchio June 11 through August 20, and Beauty and the Beast August 27 through November 26.

The last day of 2010

Today I showed a home to a buyer who found me online. What a great way to end the year! He will be getting his financing together and I will get some information for him so we can put in an offer on Monday. He will be purchasing over an acre of land with a mobile home in northwest Queen Creek.

I worked on organizing my office files and either shredding or filing documents. I want to be clutter free starting the new year.

I have made New Years Resolution to promote local places and events in Gilbert AZ online. The Hale Centre Theatre is one of my favorite things about my favorite city, Gilbert AZ.

I spoke to a homeowner who found me online and is wanting to sell her home and purchase another. We discussed the preparations she will be doing before we list it next week. It is in a sought after central Mesa location and will be a regular sale. Good start on my listing goals for 2011.

I made an appointment to show a home in Queen Creek tomorrow afternoon. It is strange to think that will be my last showing for 2010.

I spent some time in the American Allstar Realty office taking phone calls and finalizing my first newsletter for 2011.
