social networks: The #1 Ingredient for Social Media Success...Moving Beyond Bits of Conversation Into True Connection! - 01/08/09 11:55 AM
If the noise level is an indicator of conversational buzz, then 2008 was certainly the year in which the conversation online moved into the mainstream of public consciousness.
This was due, in no small part, to the effective use of social media in the presidential campaign.  No one captured the essential core of this technology as skillfully as Obama's team did through their use of social media to raise awareness and campaign funds.  In addition, the news media integrated social media sites, bloggers and iReporters into their broadcast.  Everyone was talking to anyone...
In 2008, the main event was the conversation.  Twitter … (67 comments)

social networks: Citizen Twitter...Worldwide News Conference Using Social Media for PR - 12/30/08 05:40 AM
I checked into my Twitter account this morning just in time to see a notification about a most unusual news conference.  The Israeli consulate was going to hold it's first Citizen News Conference on Twitter and was inviting the citizens of the World to ask questions about the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip.
According to their site/twitter profile:
"twitter is one of the places a discussion was held, and we wanted to join in and participate in it. #AskIsrael"
I'm monitoring the discussion.  Hundreds of new subscribers have joined since the conference began.  Re-tweets are spreading the dialog rapidly across … (24 comments)

social networks: Values Based Thinking in A Social Media Crazed World... - 11/29/08 09:36 AM
Dinner parties are one of my guilty pleasures.  I enoy them for all sorts of reasons.  For starters, they engage my creativity in planning a menu, figuring out who to invite and making a meal.
They also stimulate great conversation. I recall one dinner during which one of the guests at the table made an interesting remark during a lively discussion on social trends which went something like this..." I wonder what this all means?  Are we changing in ways that we don't really understand?  is there more to what's happening than what we physically see?"
None of us could coherently answer the question. The truth was … (18 comments)

social networks: Why Active Rain is Transforming Local Real Estate Networks! - 12/27/07 11:25 AM

Earlier today, I wrote a post entitled How Open Things Are Going to Get...Calculating The Value of Social Networks. Clearly, there are significant emerging developments ahead for 2008. We are re-working the the essential nature of customer service on line.
And while the winners are not yet clearly identified, one thing is certain...the rules of engagement are not going to be business as usual.  In fact our nascent efforts might best be remembered as the rudimenary initiators of Business Unusual.
A couple of comments on the post by Linda Scanlan and Elaine Hanson illustrate how difficult social networks are to keep up with.  Even as they seem to be popping up everywhere...the chaos/noise factor … (22 comments)

social networks: How Open Are Things Going to Get... The On-Going Question of What A Social Network is Worth - 12/27/07 07:31 AM

Courtesy of a link on gigaom  I read a fascinating article today by People Aggregators creator Marc Canter who runs a social networking company called Broadband Mechanics. This particular article is answering a question posed by a Paul Montgomery, a gentleman in Tanzania regarding why Open ID should be adopted by blogging networks.
The discussion addresses the implications of moving beyond transparency in communication to a more intimate involvement by users of blogging platforms.  This would be facilitated by a site's clients utilizing source coding behind the scenes to control access and movement of their individual content.
Yes, it's very technical, cutting edge stuff about interconnected social networks. In a … (14 comments)
