The King's English - 07/19/08 03:58 PM
English is a difficult language to master (most of us never do). Writing well is also difficult. Take this statement in an email my wife received recently about the death of a former high school teacher of hers. The author wrote that the teacher "told them that JFK was killed in the halls of KHS." We picked up quickly on the error. Another recipient of the email was quick to set the record straight: "She lied! JFK was killed in Dallas!" Though we had a laugh over the phrasing, the sentence brings back memories of that day -- November 22, 1963. I happened to (3 comments)
Good News for the Over-50 Crowd! - 07/19/08 03:45 PM
As an avid golfer who gets to play far too little, I am taking keen interest in the "British" Open this weekend. Beyond everyone's expectations, including his own, Greg Norman is leading this major tournament by two strokes after 54 holes. It is refreshing to see the former world #1 play so well. It is also refreshing to see the focus of golf reporting on the other guys (not on Tiger, who is, as Tony the Tiger would say, "Greaaaat!"). Go, Greg! Cheers also for Michelle Wie, who is playing great this weekend also. Jim Gilbert, Heart of Austin Homes (1 comments)
Active Rain Blog Format - 07/16/08 08:39 PM
I love clicking over to the blog home page. There the opening words of a number of blogs are presented. Go to the next page, however, and the entire blog is presented. Is there something I am missing? Is there another way to view the blogs without scrolling down a presentation of a number of full blogs? I'd much rather see the summary first. Check those Forwards! - 07/13/08 03:57 PM
I am certain that I am not the only one who gets those infamous forwards with instructions to send them on to others on our email lists. I get them from Realtors and friends fairly frequently. I learned an important lesson from a client a couple of years ago after I had forwarded him a myth: go to http://www.snopes.com and check the contents of the email to see what their research says on the subject. I also make it a practice to direct the sender via a link to snopes.com so they can read the report for themselves. Jim Gilbert, Heart (3 comments)
