People-centric Homes in Seattle near completion
Multi-certified green homes in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood are approaching completion.  The much talked about garden style City Cabins built by Martha Rose Construction have pulled out all stops to complete these near net-zero homes before Christmas.
Vegetated roof installation, patios made from recycled pavers, and a light sanding and polishing of the reclaimed plank flooring is all being done this week.  The construction of these homes takes a bit longer than traditional built homes, approximately six months once the foundation has been poured.
The people-centric floor plans appeal to a large segment … (2 comments)

new homes in seattle: View the star of “Deadliest Catch” from City Cabins - 11/11/11 02:36 AM

View the star of “Deadliest Catch” from City Cabins
Arguably, one of the stars of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch is the crab fishing boat “Sea Star” seen weekly weathering the rough Bearing Sea. The Sea Star’s off season home is Seattle’s Fisherman’s Terminal.  Fisherman’s Terminal  is located in the Interbay neighborhood of Seattle sandwiched between Magnolia, Queen Anne, Ballard and Fremont neighborhoods.
The dock of Fisherman’s Terminal is the home of the bronze and stone sculpture “Fisherman’s Memorial” with plaques memorializing the more than 500 local fishermen and women who have been lost at sea, the statue and the Sea … (0 comments)

new homes in seattle: The Art of Sustainable Building in Seattle - 11/04/11 04:49 AM

The Art of Sustainable Development in Urban Seattle
The art of sustainable development starts by analyzing the building site and coming up with a site design that protects natural and other features that exist on the site. Builder Martha Rose elected to reuse a large percentage of the existing foundation from the existing 1940 duplex for their latest urban project City Cabins in Seattle. Retooling and reusing the existing foundation was a key component in reducing pollution from construction activities by minimizing soil erosion, topology disturbance, waterway sedimentation and dust that would have taken place if they had elected to use traditional … (10 comments)

new homes in seattle: Queen Anne-Magnolia New Home Construction YTD Activity - 09/26/11 05:55 AM
Construction starts in the Seattle areas of Queen Anne Hill and Magnolia lag behind 2010 levels.  In August of 2011 there are 11 new homes for sale in Queen Anne and Magnolia compared to 25 for August 2010.
The average price for a new home in one of these areas start is $1,333,582 compared to $844,144 in 2010.  Market times have been drastically reduced for year-to-date (YTD) new home sales in these areas from 130 days in 2010 to 85 days in 2011.

With high the higher price tags on new construction it will be interesting to see if … (2 comments)

June 6th 2011 was the official ground breaking for City Cabins on Queen Anne Hill.  Site logistics have been going on for the last several weeks, a detached garage was deconstructed and some of the lumber was used to make temporary stairs and a job shack.  This is just a small part of green building reusing and repurposing as much of the old existing materials as you can, careful steps are taken at every phase of the construction process to eliminate and reduce waste.
