Wheel it go-around in circles? The “Great Wheel” opens today, June 29, 2012, in Seattle. The 175 foot Ferris wheel was built by pier 57, owner Hal Griffin who hopes it will provide a distraction from the dismantling of the Alaskan Way Viaduct and by creating a family-friendly designation for tourist and visitors in Seattle. The Great Wheel will lift riders approximately 200 feet above the pier where they will be treated to spectacular views from one of 42 air-conditioned/heat controlled gondolas most of them will have glass bottom floors.
