It seems like Spring! At last, after an unusual bout of cold, wet weather recently in Scottsdale, the sun finally came out. I had a meeting in Old Town Scottsdale and had the good luck to have an hour or so of free time between appointments. I took the opportunity to spend some time at the Scottsdale Waterfront as I love this particular area. I had the opportunity today to stop in and revisit the Scottsdale Marketplace. I often drive by the store which is located on the southwest corner of Lincoln Drive and Scottsdale Road. Happily, this was the day I took the time to stop. I am always amazed at how different each visit to the Marketplace is due to the changing items and displays and always look forward to a visit. The Scottsdale Marketplace is based on a co-op concept of small booths owned by individuals. Many people who live in Northern Scottsdale AZ and drive up and down Scottsdale Road frequently are probably accustomed to seeing MacDonald’s Ranch on the side of the road – but have never visited. I think that we all forget that beyond the shoulder of the road are the original ranches and farms that cover large areas of the desert. When I first moved to Arizona from Northern California, I thought I'd miss the pine trees and great outdoor activities of the Lake Tahoe area. Once we settled in Scottsdale we were invited to Flagstaff for a weekend. Fell in love with the town and surrounding areas and ended up with a summer cottage at Forest Highlands. The best of both worlds - two outstanding highly ranked golf courses while on property and outstanding hiking in and around the town of Flagstaff.One of my personal favorites is the West Fork hike down highway 89 towards Sedona in the Oak Creek Canyon. … (2 comments)

Carefree, Arizona is a small, intimate little town built around a newly updated square and is located just north of Scottsdale. The architecture and landscaping are based on Spanish adobe architecture, and plenty of cacti and desert plants are used.
