Prevention Is The Best Approach
Although we've heard it many times, nothing could be truer than the old cliche "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Preventive maintenance is the best way to keep your house in great shape. It also reduces the risk of unexpected repairs … (9 comments)

georgetown: What to Get Her? What to Get Her? No DogHouse for me, Please! - 12/18/08 07:45 AM
What do you get for a wife who just gets whatever she "needs" whenever she needs it?  I sure don't want to repeat the early years and get her a "vacumn cleaner" (What was I thinking! Truly ignorant & a LONG spell in the doghouse).
Well, the other day I noticed … (2 comments)

georgetown: Kentucky Home Inspector goes to the Cedar Post Potluck Thanksgiving Dinner - 11/28/08 05:05 PM
Thanksgiving offers a great opportunity to restart my long neglected blog.  It's been a busy year with very little time for fun things like blogging, but I'm thankful for that (so is my wife - keeps me out of her hair and my wallet fuller).
I restart with a great activity … (6 comments)

georgetown: Poisonous Critters in the Crawl Space by Erby the Central Kentucky Home Inspector - 04/02/08 03:14 PM
I've been fortunate that in all the crawl spaces in all the world (that I've been into) I hadn't yet found any of those nasty poisonous critters that tend to inhabit those dark nether regions of a house.
Until TODAY that is.  Inspecting a brand new (one year, never been occupied) home … (38 comments)

georgetown: Did you play with Mercury in Grade School? by the Central Kentucky Home Inspector - 01/06/08 02:19 PM
I finally figured out what happened to me in grade school.  It was the mercury, in the broken thermometers, that we played with.
Remember those little silver balls that would roll around, break apart and come back together.  Roll them from hand to hand.  Everybody thought it was pretty cool stuff … (27 comments)

georgetown: An Irish Ghost Story from The Central Kentucky Home Inspector - 01/05/08 07:49 PM
(No it ain't mine and I don't know the author of the joke.)
This story happened a while ago in Dublin, and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, its true.
John Bradford, a Dublin University student, was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very dark night and in the … (8 comments)

georgetown: Kentucky Home Inspector on How Much Does An Inspection Cost??? - 12/12/07 06:11 AM
So you're spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on a home purchase, and paying the realtors 5 - 6% ($5,000 - $6,000 per $100,000) of the home's value. (Where do you think the seller gets the money to pay the realtors?)  Now it's time to find a Home Inspector … (9 comments)

georgetown: Kentucky Home Inspector goes Marketing (Fishing) - 07/15/07 10:24 PM
What a day it was early last week.  I had two inspections within 20 miles (or so) of Cave Run Lake.  One of my favorite places in Kentucky.
