kentucky home inspectors: The foibles of stinky plumbing traps and vents!
- 06/06/10 01:43 PM
Does your sink or shower smell? Do they talk back to you (gurgle) when draining. I'd bet you have a venting or trap problem that you're not aware of yet. Plumbing Drain, Waste and Vent systems carry away waste while keeping the sewer gas smell from coming back up into your house.
You can read more about the right way on InspectaPedia as I just want to show you some of the
"DO NOT DO THIS" pictures of stuff I've found.

kentucky home inspectors: Oh dear, Self. I think I'm going to have an accident!
- 04/23/10 11:57 AM
Quite a few (or should I say a LOT) of the things this Lexington Kentucky Home Inspector (and many other inspectors) warn you about Kentucky Home Safety are just like that seat belt in your car.
You really hope you never ever never NEED it.
BUT, if you're driving down the road and suddenly say to yourself, "Oh dear, Self. I think I'm going to have an accident!" (though most of us use a shorter two word phrase that starts with "OH") it's way to late to reach for your seat belt.
Enough of us need that seat belt every year
kentucky home inspectors: Going around the block to cross the street
- 04/01/10 05:33 AM
What's a Kentucky Home Inspector to do when you gotta go from point A (Richmond, KY) to point B (Nicholasville, KY) with a big river between the two.
Well, I could use the interstate and suffer the traffic of Lexington, KY to get from a home inspection in Richmond, KY to a home inspection in Nicholasville, KY.
Or I could have a peacefull back country experience and see some great Kentucky countryside and Kentucky horse farms.
There is, between the two, the oldest continous operating Ferry in the United States, the Valley View Ferry on Tates Creek Road.

kentucky home inspectors: Inspectors should police themselves, SHOULDN'T THEY!
- 12/28/08 06:53 PM
Inspectors should police themselves, shouldn't they!
You'd think so, but no mechanism exists for that policing other than the free market and some weak licensing laws. Here's a take on it from one of my fellow home inspectors: Posted with permission but I've decided to withhold his name. I will send him a link to this sad commentary on our profession. If he desires to identify himself, he can do so in the comments section.
To all of my Fellow Home Inspectors:
I have a story to tell that may be a little long winded but bear with me; it

kentucky home inspectors: Fall color in Madison County, Kentucky
- 11/30/08 03:16 PM
A month or more ago, as I was travelling through Madison County, Kentucky I took these pictures of the fall colors with the express intent of posting them here. Better late than never, I guess.
The first one just kinda stopped me in my tracks as I was travelling the road. Bright sunshiny morning with a full sun shining on these trees. I couldn't resist. I turned around and went back to get this angle and shot. The second one is thru the windshield as there was too much traffic to stop. I gotta love the fall colors.
kentucky home inspectors: Poisonous Critters in the Crawl Space by Erby the Central Kentucky Home Inspector
- 04/02/08 03:14 PM
I've been fortunate that in all the crawl spaces in all the world (that I've been into) I hadn't yet found any of those nasty poisonous critters that tend to inhabit those dark nether regions of a house.
Until TODAY that is. Inspecting a brand new (one year, never been occupied) home in a subdivisiion north of Georgetown, Kentucky.
Fortunately I saw her before she saw me.
Pretty as she was, there was still an audible "pop" as gloved hands sent her to Heaven. Along with a short note in the buyer's report about treating the crawl space for
kentucky home inspectors: Spring is blooming in Casey County, Kentucky by Erby the Central Kentucky Home Inspector
- 03/31/08 05:29 PM
Today I had an occassion to visit Casey County, Kentucky . The morning was a bit wet as it rained almost the whole home inspection. Lord willing, the creek won't rise and flood the house I was inspecting.
Strangely enough, the property was located on "Dry Creek" Road. Just didn't look very "DRY" to me.
BUT, passing back through Liberty, Kentucky, I realized the rain had stopped. The sun hadn't quite come out, but look at the signs of spring in front of the Casey County Courthouse.
Blooming going on!
But the Casey Count courthouse square was a busy place. After five minutes,
kentucky home inspectors: Rainbow at Sunrise (Sun Dogs) in Georgetown, KY by Erby, The Central Kentucky Home Inspector
- 03/28/08 09:56 AM
The other morning, I was out on my second run of the day (yep, I'm an early riser) and noticed a rainbow at sunrise over Georgetown, Ketucky. I snapped this picture and wanted to share it with y'all. I actually took several but shooting into the sun isn't exactly my strong point.
See the rainbow ends at both sides of the sun??
Yeah, there's a little snow on the ground, but it was gone just a couple of days later. That's what I like about the weather here. We get these little touches of winter, play, and then it's gone again. Not much
kentucky home inspectors: Kentucky Home Inspector on Haunted Houses & Carbon Monoxide!
- 12/04/07 02:56 PM
Is your house haunted or are you being poisoned by carbon monoxide?
More Stuff I didn't know I didn't know!!
Back in June of 2007, when I first joined Active Rain, I posted an article I'd written some time back titled
"Is it the Flu or Carbon Monoxide"
based on research I had done when I had time to do such things.
A few minutes ago, while flitting around one of the inspector message boards, I responded to a light hearted post about funny things said one of which was "paranormal home inspections.
Surprisingly, there are people who advertise as paranormal home inspectors and have
