cameron station: Cameron Station Summer 2011 Real Estate Scene - 06/23/11 09:23 AM
Drive down Duke Street in the West End of Alexandria and you can't miss it.  If you're heading east towards Old Town Alexandria, it's on your right.  Heading west towards Landmark Mall and Route 395, it's on your left.
IT is Cameron Station, one of the premier communities of homes in Alexandria, perhaps Northern Virginia.  With a location that's close to everything, a great mix of townhouses, condos, and single-family homes, and a real neighborhood feel, Cameron Station remains a very desirable community and recent sales statistics show this to be true.
Here's a driving tour video of Cameron Station that … (2 comments)

cameron station: "We've Passed Your Name Along to Some Friends, Is That Okay?" - 07/20/09 03:57 AM
Work hard.  Do a good job.  Close a deal.  Get referred to another buyer or seller.  Repeat.
That's the way it should, can, and does happen.  You can pay hundreds of dollars to hundreds of coaches who will all tell you the same thing: Try to build your business by referrals.
Last Thursday after finishing up settlement on a townhouse in Northern Virginia, my clients were thrilled.  As I handed them a stack of business cards and politely asked them to please spread the word about my services to their friends and colleagues, they said:
"Sure.  Oh by the way, we've … (11 comments)

cameron station: Cameron Station Shooting -- Police Respond Quickly to Northern Virginia Violence - 01/29/09 07:16 AM
Just yesterday, I posted Northern Virginia - A Safe Place to Live which detailed a University of Virginia study showing that 5 Northern Virginia jurisdictions were among the safest areas in Virginia.
And at the top of the list... the supposedly peaceful City of Alexandria.
Fast forward to today.  The scene is Cameron Station.  A wonderful neighborhood where I've sold half a dozen homes.  I've got friends and clients who live there.  It's less than a mile down the street from my condo in Alexandria.
Now, it's all over the local news:  A shooting happened this morning in Cameron Station.  … (8 comments)

HOT SPOTS IN A COOLER MARKETALEXANDRIA HOME SALESAPRIL 2008  In April 2008, there were 150 home sales in the City of Alexandria.   This was a precipitous drop from the 204 sales made during the same month of 2007.  Sales prices ranged from $131,500 up to $1,650,000.  The good news for Alexandria home sellers is that homes are selling relatively quickly, averaging just 60 days on the market!  Additionally, while buyers are negotiating lower prices from the original asking price, the average net sales price of $474,678 for the month of April 2008 equates to Alexandria sellers getting 93.9% of their … (14 comments)

cameron station: Please Don't Feed the Alligators (or the Birds)! - 01/31/08 10:49 AM
THE FEEDING OF ALLIGATORS CANNOT BE A POSITIVE STEP FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
WE HAVE MANY YOUNG CHILDREN AND PETS IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD.  PLEASE STOP FEEDING THE ALLIGATORS!
So read the letter my parents received several years ago from the Homeowner's Association (HOA) in their Boca Raton, Florida community.  Their property backs to an artificial lake where White Egrets, Great Blue Herons, and turtles abound.  Alligators occasionally visit, but much less since their HOA took some action.
My parents and I often joke about this matter-of-fact letter from their HOA, even though the reality is no laughing matter.

Take a look at the letter that … (29 comments)

cameron station: Skip the Bookstore -- Skip on Over to Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Alexandria Library - 01/24/08 09:03 AM
Despite our fast-paced internet and television culture, Americans and Northern Virginians still enjoy cracking open a good book from time to time.  The book industry is a mega-billion dollar industry with giants like Barnes & Noble, Borders Books, and online behemoth Amazon.com leading the pack.  Small independent bookstores have increasingly been forced out of the market as the big bookstores add gourmet coffee shops and plush reading couches to their shops to entice the book-reading public.

However, if you wish to save some money and get a real sense of community, it's time to skip the bookstore and skip on … (26 comments)

cameron station: Condos in Alexandria: How Much Do They Cost? - 08/15/07 03:10 PM
A full 55% of the homes currently on the market for resale in Alexandria, Virginia are comprised of condominium units.  And there are still more being built...  Condo living is a necessity for some who cannot afford the higher priced townhouse and single family homes in Northern Virginia.  However, for many Alexandria residents, condominiums are the home of choice, with the appeal of low maintenance and easy access to public transportation, shopping and restaurants.  The most popular areas for condos in Alexandria are in Old Town Alexandria and in the West End "Condo Canyon."
Condos are scattered throughout the City of … (2 comments)

cameron station: Farmers Markets in Arlington & Alexandria: Fresh Produce & Fun - 08/10/07 11:24 AM
Looking for fresh produce and fun?  Why not visit one of the many local Farmers Markets held in Arlington or Alexandria!
Usually thought to be territory for those early-risers on the weekend, there are actually local farmers markets that have extended morning hours and even afternoon hours and during the week as well.  You can usually get some of the best fruits and vegetables as well as some crafts at the Farmers Markets and get to spend some time outdoors.  Many of the farmers drive several hours to participate in the market, and it is important to support our local farmers.
