northern virginia foreclosures: Arlington Virginia is NOT a Foreclosure "Hotspot": Neither is the Rest of Northern Virginia and D.C. - 02/14/11 02:18 PM
Look around real estate these days and you know that foreclosures are a constant hot topic.
You hear about it on the news.  It's discussed almost constantly.  Where are the foreclosures?  How many Americans are underwater on their mortgages?  Is the foreclosure moratorium in effect?  Is it over?  Is their a shadow foreclosure inventory?  What are the problems in the banks' handling of foreclosures?
Today, CNNMoney has an article detailing 10 foreclosure hotspots.  Take a look at this list out of curiosity.
I'm happy to report that neither Arlington, Virginia, nor any area of Northern Virginia or Washington D.C. made this … (2 comments)

northern virginia foreclosures: A Foreclosure Here, A Foreclosure There, Foreclosures are Not Everywhere (at least in Northern Virginia)! - 06/03/10 02:44 PM
Foreclosures are certainly in the news!  In the last few years, if you've turned on a television, opened a newspaper, looked on the internet, or in some cases walked down the street, you've heard or seen news about foreclosures.  That's without a doubt.
From the attention that these stories get in the media, you might think that foreclosures are everywhere.  I can't tell you the number of buyers who have contacted me wanting to search for a foreclosed home so that they can "get a deal!" only to be disappointed by the small amount of inventory and the conditions of the foreclosed … (3 comments)

Some areas of the country are much worse than others.  Overall, the D.C. metro area remains in pretty decent shape when it comes to foreclosure numbers.  In the month of October, the District had one active foreclosure for every 3,388 households, according to research company RealtyTrac.  Virginia had one foreclosure for every 1,261 households, the 29th highest in the country.  Maryland has quite a bit more foreclosure … (10 comments)

northern virginia foreclosures: A Few Words about Foreclosures in the D.C. Area - 09/15/07 08:16 PM
Six months ago, I wrote an article about foreclosures, concluding that they were not a big problem in the D.C. and Northern Virginia area.  (SEE Foreclosure Scare – Foreclosures, Foreclosures Everywhere? Not Really in D.C. and Northern Virginia).

In that article, I quoted data showing that “The D.C. metro area averaged only 8 foreclosures per 10,000 households in the 3rd quarter of 2006.”  Well, since then foreclosure rates have doubled to a rate of 16 per 10,000 households during the first quarter of 2007.
While still much lower than the national average and most of the country, the fact … (4 comments)
