remax: Video: Extension and Expansion of the Homebuyer Tax Credit for Virginia and D.C. Buyers - 11/10/09 01:08 PM
You've likely heard that the Homebuyer Tax Credit was extended last week.  The previous deadline was November 30th.  Now you have more time to get up to an $8000 tax credit for the purchase of your first home in Virginia or D.C. (or anywhere else for that matter)
Current Virginia and D.C. homeowners also have the opportunity to get up to $6500 when they move up and purchase their next home.  The income limits have also been expanded.
Watch this video from RE/MAX International's CEO Margaret Kelly for some more information:

remax: You Can't Argue with the Facts! Are You Ready for RE/MAX? - 08/18/09 10:09 PM
Everyone has an opinion.  However, you cannot argue with the facts.
This video from RE/MAX International presents facts and only the facts ma'am.  Does anybody even remember Dragnet?  I only know it from the Nick at Nite reruns.  Even then I'm dating myself.
Watch this:

Now that you know the facts, let me know if you're thinking about making a switch from your current brokerage.  We're looking for agents with the three E's:  energy, enthusiasm, and entrepreneurial drive.
I'm the Managing Broker of RE/MAX Allegiance in McLean, Virginia.
Give me a call for the facts, just the facts.  … (5 comments)

remax: I Hate to Brag... - 07/27/09 03:26 PM
I Hate to Brag.  Really, I do.
That's why I have a loving, adoring, wonderful wife who does most of my bragging for me.
She'll tout my latest accomplishments and make it sound like I climbed Mount Everest barefoot and without oxygen when all I did was sell another home or appear on national television.
(In the spirit of full disclosure, I'm also the biggest raving fan of my wife and tell everybody about her successful wedding dance business every chance I get).
However, sometimes, no matter how humble you are, it becomes necessary to toot your own horn.  In … (9 comments)

remax: RE/MAX is the ONLY Real Estate Company to Advertise on National Television - Why This Matters - 06/09/09 02:49 PM
This morning, Inman News reported that RE/MAX has national TV to itself.
As a managing broker of an office at one of the largest, and the most productive RE/MAX franchise in the entire RE/MAX system, I greeted this news with excitement.  I already knew that RE/MAX dominated national television, and in fact, almost all advertising mediums -- print, online, radio, and t.v.  At the RE/MAX Convention back in March, the company told us that they expected their share of television advertising to increase this year from 50% to probably about 65%.
However, nobody predicted that RE/MAX would be the ONLY real … (7 comments)

remax: Don't Kick Yourself in 2 or 3 Years - 03/15/09 02:44 PM
If you're thinking about purchasing a home, you may wish that you had a crystal ball. You want to know when the market will reach a bottom. When will it start going back up again? What happened to the value appreciation that the real estate market experienced from 2000-2005? Is now a good time to buy a home?
Sure, it may have been a good move to purchase a home before the boom. But you didn't. Are you kicking yourself now?
Today's real estate market offers lowered prices and extremely low -- record low -- interest rates. While the answer to … (9 comments)

remax: Balloons Flying Higher and Higher -- Sign of a Turnaround? - 11/17/08 08:48 PM
Sign of a turnaround?
The CEO of my RE/MAX Allegiance franchise recently started a blog with his musings about real estate, the market, the industry, etc.  Charlie Bengel, Jr. unabashedly refers to our company as "The Greatest Real Estate Brokerage in the World"!  Since I've only ever been associated with one other real estate brokerage, in my little world, I'd have to concur.

Last week on The Bengel Blog, Charlie offered the following interesting statistics and anecdotal evidence of a pickup in market activity:
"RE/MAX Allegiance conducted 843 transactions     in September and 722 in October. These stats     may … (13 comments)

remax: Advertising on AR: Ask Me About Allegiance! - 08/23/08 08:24 AM
This morning I noticed that my real estate brokerage, RE/MAX Allegiance has started running ads in the ActiveRain Sponsors area that shows up on your screen along the side or along the top every time you log in to the site.  Our RE/MAX franchise has a strong presence in the Washington D.C. area, including over 1200 agents in over 35 offices throughout Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.  In addition to the immediate Capital Area, RE/MAX Allegiance also has office locations in Annapolis, Maryland, Richmond VA, Roanoke VA, and Virginia Beach.
I wonder if their recruiting advertisement appears on everyone's screen or … (12 comments)

remax: RE/MAX Reads My Active Rain Blog - 07/10/08 06:49 AM
Just another sign that you never know who is reading your blog.
Apparently some of the powers that be at RE/MAX are reading mine -- right here on Active Rain.
Yesterday morning, I was surprised and pleased when I got an e-mail from my broker (and from several other people in my brokerage) congratulating me on appearing in the RE/MAX Mid-Atlantic July 2008 Newsletter.
Wow!  I had no idea.  Nobody contacted me for the article.  That's right.  I had no idea.
Here's the article:

They even included a link to my Active Rain post Racing for the Cure with RE/MAX.

remax: When They Tell You Their Company is #1, Ask for the Proof! - 06/27/08 05:15 PM
Numerous agents and companies go around touting:
"We're #1"
"Top Company in Sales"
"Highest Sales Volume in the Region"
"We Sell More"
"Highest Number of Sales"

Anybody can say it, but can they all prove it?
That's what's important.
Next time an agent says that their company is the best, ask for the proof!
REALTOR Magazine's July 2008 issue ranks the Top 100 real estate brokerages nationwide by 2007 Transaction Sides and by 2007 Sales Volume.

Here's some facts about my company: #23 for Transactions Sides and #30 for Sales Volume in the Country! Only 1 other company … (19 comments)

remax: Racing for the Cure with RE/MAX - 06/06/08 07:52 AM
Tomorrow, Saturday June 7th, I'll be hitting the streets, running in the road, and racing with RE/MAX for the annual Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure.  This annual event raises awareness and money for finding a cure for breast cancer which unfortunately afflicts so many women in this country.

I've been running this 5K race just about every year since I moved to the D.C. area in 1995.  Having trained for, run and completed all 26.2 miles of the Marines Corps Marathon in 2004, 5K races aren't really too much of a challenge anymore, but I enjoy supporting … (28 comments)

remax: The World Can Be Your Oyster -- Marketing Your Home Across the Seven Seas - 02/21/08 04:30 PM
Ring Microsoft customer service and you will be speaking with someone in India.  Unwrap the Power Rangers action figures in the box under the Christmas tree and you'll likely find that it was made in China.  So was your iPhone.  The homegrown Ford that you drive may have been assembled in Detroit, but likely has parts from a dozen countries around the globe.
The World is Flat, so wrote journalist Thomas Friedman in his oft-quoted 2005 book.  International boundaries are spanned by the internet and people around the world frequently communicate for free in real-time.  Jetsetting from New York to London to … (24 comments)

remax: Tough Market? Don't Knock Down Your Competitor's Signs! - 02/06/08 04:23 PM
For some real estate professionals around the country, times are tough.  There's no question about it.
At a presentation in Northern Virginia this morning, Dave Liniger, Chairman of RE/MAX International announced the statistic that of the 1.4 million members of the National Association of REALTORS at the start of 2007, an astonishing 400,000 did not earn a single commission last year.
With real estate markets slowing down in many areas of the country, some of these agents have had to leave the business.  We know that the meltdown in the subprime mortgage markets and the current plethora of foreclosures has severely impacted lenders … (68 comments)

remax: Network, Learn, and See the Stars: Real Estate Conventions - 10/23/07 10:59 PM
Gathering together with hundreds or thousands of other real estate professionals, donning a name badge, gulping down some morning coffee, and carrying around stacks of business cards becomes a way of life when you start attending real estate conventions.

Conventions can be company-wide, local, regional, or national.  Real estate conventions are sponsored by local associations, large franchises, designation organizations, the National Association of Realtors, and other real estate related organizations.

Attending and actively participating in a convention can be an excellent way for you to meet and learn from top Realtors around the country, increase your knowledge and real estate tool arsenal, have … (68 comments)

remax: Up Up & Away: What a Day -- The RE/MAX Balloon - 08/18/07 08:59 PM

I went out to Bealeton, Virginia today to the Flying Air Circus to watch WW-I era bi-planes doing aerobatics and to see the hot air Balloon Festival.  I had no idea whether there would be a RE/MAX balloon there, but fortunately there was.  Wow!!  It is truly incredible to see the massive RE/MAX balloon up close and personal for the first time.
The aerobatic plane show was amazing, and there was even a wing-walker.  A woman climbed out onto one of the wings in mid-flight at about 100 MPH and  then hung upside down holding on with her ankles!  Wow!  We … (26 comments)

remax: We'll Help You Take Your Business to The Next Level! No Thanks! - 08/09/07 05:06 PM
"We'll help you take your business to the next level!"
Oh yeah?  Really?
Watch out for those words...
Times are tough for some Realtors and for many brokerages.  I understand that brokers are always looking for good producing agents to pay their bills, but c'mon, do you think cold calling other agents really works?
I received such a call today (well thankfully it actually went to voicemail) from a broker of a well-known office touting "Let's talk about how we can help you take your business to the next level.  Give me a call so we can discuss some ideas."  I've had other brokers hand … (14 comments)
