stock market: A Very Self-Explanatory Chart - 02/27/10 07:35 AM
It's very rare or more likely never that I've posted a picture or chart without much explanation.  However, this chart showing the return on investment over the last decade requires very little commentary.  Granted... depending upon your timing, your return may be significantly different.  However, the chart does make its point.

stock market: Has Your House Lost Almost 42% of Its Value in 9 Months? - 02/18/09 06:21 AM
Unless they just discovered toxic radioactive waste underneath your front porch, you're likely to answer this question in the negative. 
How about the stock market?
Well, 9 months is enough time to have a baby.  In the last 9 months, this baby has gone down a whopping 41.8%.  Since reaching 12,968.79 on May 16th, the Dow has plunged to 7,552.60 as of the closing bell yesterday!

Since October 1st, the Dow is down over 30%, and in the last 46 days alone, the DJIA has lost over 16% of its value.

Constantly looking at home prices in your area?  Time to give it a rest.  
There's no day trading in the real estate market.
Remember the day traders?  During the height of the technology boom on Wall Street, these were the folks buying and selling hundreds or thousands of shares of tech companies only to sell them minutes or hours later the same day in the hopes of making profit off the fluctuations in the stock price.
