Tomorrow, I'll be spending time with a number of other pretend Realtors- pretending to be having fun on the pretend SunRail trip at the pretend SunRail event that some fine pretend folks have pretended to work pretty hard to set up for us.
What all is going to be included in our day?  Well, we'll hop on those pretend Lynx buses mentioned in the article here, ride the train a bit and learn about the stops along … (2 comments)

florida: "What the....." Wednesday - 09/12/12 11:47 AM
"What the.....?" Wednesday

"What the.....?" Wednesday
Now, the question here isn't "Why did the lady push her kid out in the middle of traffic- when a crosswalk wasn't far away?" No, the answer to that one is easy: "Because she could, and she had no regard for the law."
No, the question here is "Did this ignorant lady and her poor kid make it to the other side?"
As far as I know, she made it. But stay tuned- and see if she makes my popular Pedestrian Tales Fom the Middle of the Road...

Got dead people?  My contact list did

Got dead people?  My contact list did
OK, I'm doing it.  At the risk of exposing myself as a poor cyber housekeeper (but all in the interest of the public good,of course), I'm admitting today that my contact list had a couple of dead folks on it.
I guess it shouldn't be all that surprising- but I'd just never thought about it before and never stumbled across one of the deceased still listed amongst the ranks of the healthy.
It is good that I caught things before I emailed … (4 comments)

Lifestyle Searches- friend or foe?  MyFloridaHomesMLS.com
Today's edition of the MLXchange News- a daily update from our My Florida Regional MLS (MFRMLS)- pointed out a new feature for the MyFloridaHomesMLS.com website. It's a Lifestyle Searches feature- and right now, I'm having a hard time deciding on whether to consider the thing a friend or a foe.

43 days and counting...Florida Realtors Convention and Expo wrap-up

http://youtu.be/KYCmV-GYykk

Well, with 43 days to go before our local board elections, I decided to take a few minutes and make another quick video.  Quick for me, that is!  In this video, I discuss the recent Florida Realtors Convention and Expo that just wrapped up here in Orlando at the World Center Marriott.

I was able to get in some classes (including an Advanced Communications one for free CE credits!), but also had the opportunity to attend the Professional Standards Forum and Property Management Committee meeting, among others.

Shaking things up...new profile photo

Those of you who have followed this blog for any bit of time probably noticed that I changed my profile photo yesterday afternoon.  I've read others' posts and comments about their profile photos here and there- but I've never been overly concerned about mine as a rule.

I'm not a cute guy or anything- some stuff just can't be helped!  So us lesser-attractive folks must rely on our razor-sharp wit, superior intelligence and wry sense of humor to get us through this crazy world of ours.  … (6 comments)

54 days and counting...supporting Chick-fil-A

54 days and counting...supporting Chick-fil-A

Today's message from "the trail" is a fairly simple one.  I support Chick-fil-A.  I've supported Chick-fil-A since 1985, and I will continue to support Chick-fil-A.

The message in the current "Chick-fil-A debate" is equally clear:  Chick-fil-A does not stand for hate- never has.  Folks aren't coerced into eating at Chick-fil-A- never will be.  If you don't feel you can eat at Chick-fil-A because Dan Cathy's words are not in keeping with your beliefs, so be it.  Stand by your beliefs as I'll stand by mine.

Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #29
Yet another avoidable Central Florida death.  This one occurred under the watch of Brevard County Sheriff Jack Parker. May God bless Daignault's family and the pedestrian's family.
Troopers: Pedestrian hit, killed in Brevard County
Florida Highway Patrool troopers said a pedestrian was hit and killed in Brevard County Saturday night. The crash happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. on State Road 3 at Spruce Avenue, in Merritt Island.
A Toyota Scion, driven by Colette Daignault, struck the pedestrian, according to troopers. FHP said the pedestrian, whose identity has not … (0 comments)

Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #28
Wow.  This isn't the first of these apparent "suicide by automobile" incidents, and I'm sure it won't be the last.  My brother-in-law actually witnessed one of these a few years ago:  a lady stood on the shoulder smoking a cigarette, and she stepped in the path of a tractor-trailor when there was no chance of it slowing down.  When he stopped to try and render aid, the cigarette was still smoking.
It's surely a tragedy- and one where I have to say that the victims are the driver of the tractor-trailor … (0 comments)

Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #27

Here's another installment from my popular series documenting some of our Orlando area's most preventable of tragedies.  This one falls under the jurisdiction of Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.  As frequent visitors know, I believe pedestrians should be on sidewalks and in crosswalks.  I know- funny concept.  That said, I've come to have less and less sympathy for those walking into traffic- and more and more for those motorists who try to avoid the "froggers" to no avail.  Indeed, it is them that I've come to consider the true victims … (0 comments)

It's Kegerator Thursday!
As everyone that's spent a decent amount of time on the road showing properties will tell you, you never know what awaits behind that door.
Could be a pitbull, could be a property your tenants have trashed (or are in the process of trashing)...could be pizza boxes under a bed or a brown pool in the back.
Or...it could be The Kegerator...

Volusia County man killed in pedestrian crash
Well, here we have yet another death occurring under the less-than-watchful eyes of Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson and Deland Police Chief Bill Ridgeway. As with all of these 26 cases thus far, it wouldn't have happened if the pedestrian had remained on the sidewalk or crossed the street when and where legally entitled to do so.
May God bless the family of this victim- and may God bless and comfort Linda Williams and her family in the days, … (0 comments)

Autism Speaks...loudly today. (Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #25)
Mom loses custody of 2 kids after autistic son's hit-and-run death
In this game of life we all play, some milestones are joyous and some are not. Some are celebratory and some are sorrowful- with this post 25th post of mine that documents an unnecessary and preventable pedestrian death surely of the latter's ilk. This story (courtesy, Orlando Sentinel) is one that should make us both a bit sad and perhaps even more … (4 comments)

What do you do with a drunken prospect?

What do you do with a drunken prospect?
Not necessarily this drunk- but how about one that's just a little liquored-up...or slightly intoxicated?
I was speaking with another agent this morning, and she was telling me about one of the showings she'd had over the weekend.  "Folks showed up on time"..."seemed to like the place"..."the guy reeked of alcohol..."
What?  "The guy reeked of alcohol?"
O.K., then...why did the showing continue?  What should the agent have done?  What could she have done?
Though I added a … (14 comments)

Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #24
Just ahead of our Independence Day getaways, yet another senseless and preventable death in Orlando. Of note- as I write this, a news update report has just spoken of a roadway here being shut down. It's in an area that may very well have seen Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #25 before I've finished speaking of #24...
This article here is fairly informative, but has left out a couple of things about the story. First, … (0 comments)

Homeless man leases home- twice!
http://www.newsdaytonabeach.com/Radio/WNDB/WNDB-Latest/Homeless-Man-Charged-In-Ormond-Beach-Home-Rental-Scam.html
Yes, it's come to this in Scammerland: A homeless guy that looks like he just stumbled off the beach has managed to swindle a couple of young tenant prospects. No longer safe in trashing our broken-English Nigerian (or "classic") scam emails, folks now have a new scammer type to be wary of- the surfer dude homeless guy scammer.. What's the world come to?
Levity aside, this story and our current "holiday week" does provide another opportunity to address these Craigslist-type scams. This one's a bit of a lay-up, but I'll point out a few … (0 comments)

Yet another call for pool/water safety
Here we go again... This is a tough report here- as the tragic death of an innocent 11-year-old that was just trying to play some mini-golf follows.
From the outside looking in, I feel a duty to inform in instances whenever and wherever I can.  If the early reports are true, this was surely a preventable death resulting from someone's negligence.
As the story indicates, GFI breakers are required for residential pools and hot tubs as well- this isn't a commercial or theme park issue alone. That said, it's my hope … (2 comments)

florida: THIS is the Medal of Honor - 06/29/12 01:54 AM
THIS is the Medal of Honor
THIS is the Medal of Honor Or Congressional Medals of Honor, as the case may be.  Commissioned by Congress and presented by our president, this is simply the highest honor members of our armed forces may receive.  It's a unique instance where an award is offered in differing styles based on the recipient's branch of service. Never seen a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient?  You're not alone.  With only 81 living Americans bearing one right now, it's an award whose recipients are truly special.  Want your children to know a hero?  First, let it be … (13 comments)

Sometimes, "There's good in everything" is a bunch of baloney
I'll even call "crap" on this one...at least for today.  I've bought into the idea in the past (and might even do so again one day), but the last day or so has presented a case for exceptions to the rule on this one.
You see, one of our little dogs has died.  The beautiful little girl pictured here- in a photo from a yard sale we had a couple of years ago when she thought she … (8 comments)

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-06-20/news/os-tolls-increase-florida-roads-20120620_1_toll-roads-transponders-cash-customers

...or keeping things all literary-style, this could also be "The Toll Also Rises".  As in other parts of the country, those of us here in the metro Orlando area are feeling the pinch from local governments and regulatory agencies.  They struggle for funding as their tax bases dwindle, and those lost monies must be found elsewhere.

We have a number of toll roads here- and unless you have some burning desire to sit on I-4 all day, it'll cost you a good bit in tolls to avoid said parking lot.
