opinion: Egg-straordinary- and that's not always a good thing - 04/26/11 03:15 PM
Like many of his predecessors, President Obama flung open the gates of The White House yesterday and welcomed the public into their house. It's sad that many don't seem to have appreciated it.
I spent a little over a year working at The White House. I can honestly say that though the hours were long and the pay not the greatest, I appreciated every minute I spent there. There was history everywhere I turned. From the Vice President's ceremonial office, to the Roosevelt Room where President Roosevelt's Nobel Prize resides, to The Rose Garden- every step could be where the greatest … (4 comments)

opinion: "Success breeds success" - 04/23/11 06:56 AM
"Success breeds success".....I don't remember where I first heard that, or from whom, or exactly what the heck the discussion was about at the time.  In fact, I don't even know that I was a part of that original discussion.
But I do know my thoughts of the phrase when I first heard it, and the thought remains today.  "Doesn't anything breed anything?"  Success may indeed breed success- but doesn't failure also breed failure?  Don't hear that phrase very often- but it's true.
"Laughter is contagious"- another good one.  "Ballin' your eyes out drags others down with you" doesn't get the publicity … (4 comments)

opinion: Jesus, terrorists, illegal aliens...are YOU committed? - 04/22/11 03:08 PM
Simple question on the day we observe Good Friday- but do you have an easy answer?
In the interest of dispelling anyone's concerns that I hold terrorists, bombers, illegal aliens or anyone else in as high a regard as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ- fear not. He is Lord, they are not.
Rather, I offer Him along with the others mentioned above (and our very own great service members) as examples of folks that have been, are, and/or will be undoubtedly committed to their cause. One has to be in order to die for it.
Jesus accepted his fate on Calvary's cross and … (4 comments)

opinion: The message and the messenger - 04/14/11 12:42 PM
The message and the messenger have always been a tough couple to split.  I've heard tell that no divorces are easy- but this is one that's especially tough on folks.
I was in church the other day, and my mind began to wander.  That's not a particularly good thing to do- as fellowship and shaking hands is good, but the main reason one attends services is to hear the Lord's Word in the form of a pastor's message.
But I've been a little fired-up at my pastor lately.  I'm wanting to start a veteran's ministry, and the church is not very enthused about … (2 comments)

opinion: What do you do when your country is stigmatized? - 04/09/11 09:36 PM
Here's a question: How do you market properties to foreign investors if your country is stigmatized?
The real estate world is a tough one these days- been tough for a few years now.  It's getting better, though- as I've dealt with a number of Canadian investors that are looking to once again step into the U.S. real estate market.  This is surely a good thing- although there's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to them and the different rules and laws affecting condominiums, etc.  But what's it like if your entire country (whether fairly or unfairly) is stigmatized?  What do you … (4 comments)

opinion: What is an offer? It depends. - 04/07/11 12:16 PM
What is an offer?  Such a simple question- but one that seems to have a number of different answers.  So which one is correct?  The answer may well be "It depends".
In managing a number of properties over the years, I've given the pitiful-sounding "it depends" answer more times than I'll ever be able to count.  The response has bounced off the tip of my tongue many a time in dealing with my owners- with the "Do we have a lot of interest in my home?" question being a prime example.
The "interest" question is tough to answer, as you don't … (4 comments)

opinion: Saturday Evening Poll: Work on Saturday/Sunday? - 03/26/11 12:22 PM
Do you work on Saturdays?  Sundays?  Both?  Neither?  It seems that more and more, folks 1) ask me if I'm working on a particular Saturday or Sunday, and 2) get really upset when I explain that Sunday is the Lord's Day and that I work Saturdays from time to time by appointment only. I know a great deal of agents on the sales side of our business, and many of my fellow property managers as well.  Some folks I know work Monday-Friday and cram what seems to be 100 hours' work into those days (I'd say I work 55-60), while some … (12 comments)
