Food and Gemutlichkeit - 200 years Oktoberfest - 09/30/10 09:11 PM
it all began 200 years ago....
with the wedding between Crown Prince Ludwig and Therese, Princess of Saxony. The historic party became an official beer festival and celebrates its 200th anniversary this month. Oktoberfest is more than a Bavarian tradition. I has cast its spell on millions of people in and outside of Germany.
Today you can find Octoberfest Celebrations all over the world. There are a couple of Octoberfest opportunities in Atlanta, of course nothing will really compare to the original experience....

Historical Design: The Regency Era - 09/23/10 10:38 PM
History has given us many eras of style that have influenced the home settings today. In many cases now, younger generations never really have taken the time to understand what is considered an "Antique." The most likely assumption is that the furniture is old and less visually appealing than a Lazyboy Recliner, and completely it dismissed from their minds. However, what if a little historical background was given to those weird chairs in their grandmother's formal living room, those funky tables that have animal claws to stand on and all those pieces of furniture that look a little too elaborate. Let's … (7 comments)

Dare To Be Different - 09/22/10 11:57 PM
Fall is springing up all around! People are flocking to stores. It’s time to bring out the decorations. Summer gives way to fall and people begin to purchase napkins, bowls and plates inspired by multi-colored leaves that symbolize the change in seasons. Yes, fall is quickly approaching!
As I was shopping, I overheard a couple debating their seasonal purchase. The wife approached the checkout counter with two beautiful fall-colored wreaths. It had all the fixings. Shades of brown, red and burnt orange lined the circular rim. At the head of the wreath lay a big red ribbon layered and tied around … (8 comments)

The College Reporter: Sticker Art - 09/20/10 08:35 PM
The College Reporter
While in the office I have heard one of my interns speaking about decorating her dorm room. She mentioned that she had a lot of empty wall space in her room that she wanted to cover, so the room would not look so empty. She stated that she would find it very cool if she could find something besides paintings, posters or picture frames to cover the space. I thought this would be a great opportunity for her to get out and search the stores to find what is new and can be applied to her walls but … (3 comments)

Design Inspired by Icebergs (Finnland) - 09/16/10 09:38 PM
Early September I started a serie talking about European inspired Design. This week I was amazed to learn about the first cabin on the lake. I guess nothing is impossible. This is a vacation home in theh water. "Architect Daniel Andersson has envisioned a nouveau lake house that lets guests sleep with the fish — where the living space sits directly below the water’s surface and from above emerges an expansive roof deck. Andersons design came about when he was approached by a client to create a fresh concept able to attract more guests to a resort located on the Åland Islands … (9 comments)

Your House Is Your Canvas - 09/10/10 09:50 PM
Have you ever found yourself entranced by a beautiful painting? Something about that particular art form stands out enough to capture your attention.  It may be the color, the image or even an abstract interpretation that draws you near. You find yourself pondering the inspiration for every color, stroke and pattern. It is no mistake, but rather preference that drives the mind.
I find myself fostering interpretation. What is it that you want to say? Each piece poses a unique meaning. From brush to canvas, an artist’s message transpires. But that brush flows deeper than its surface, it speaks volumes. Like … (3 comments)

Design in History: Napkin folding - 09/06/10 09:26 PM

The folded napkin can have an elaborate placement on the table as a folded origami type or in a simple placement beside the dinner plates with a simple napkin ring. Whatever the preference, the napkin will always be an eye-catching addition to your table setting.
Napkin folding found its origins centuries ago. The Middle Age set a standard for table setting and manner as they became a major concern to people, particularly the royalty, especially with the invention of the fork in the 1600s. This period in time is also a benchmark for when folding napkins became a highly sought … (11 comments)
