Model Home Staging- an alternative for Builders - 01/29/11 05:14 PM

Imagine how much furniture and décor it would take to fill 15,000 square feet of living space. Now imagine completing the planning, shopping, designing and staging of the space in a two month period. Whew! It makes you tired just thinking about it right?
Recently, Barbara Heil-Sonneck and the Design2Sell team did just that. Wilson Parker Homes, an Atlanta home builder, hired the designer and her staff to furnish each and every room within three separate model homes. Each model home was different in architecture style, size, and location.
The first model home that Barbara and the team staged was … (4 comments)

That Red Chair - 01/28/11 08:17 AM
Frequently during THE NEXT COOL THING I was asked this question: Where did you find that red chair? Guests were mesmerized by its stature and unconventional design.
There were so many amazing pieces of furniture in the modern space I designed for the "Gone With the Wind" exhibit, but this beauty stole the show. I can only be credited for the selection of the chair as it is the creation of Huff Furniture and Design.

The curved back of the chair was tufted with Swarovski Crystals peaking out of each tuft. The piece was certainly something that one might find … (9 comments)

Listeners of Atlanta Home Radio recently received an education in home staging and design when Barbara Heil-Sonneck appeared as a guest on the radio program. The show, which airs live every Tuesday, interviews local home experts and informs listeners about all aspects of home ownership.
Co-hosts Alan Dubrinsky and Stone Payton asked the designer to explain the idea behind staging and why it is beneficial to homeowners. What is Modern Design? - 01/19/11 10:29 PM
The “Gone With the Wind” exhibit at THE NEXT COOL THING challenged me to carefully consider how the decor of Twelve Oaks Plantation would translate into an interior space today. As you already know I felt that the antebellum home’s interior would translate well into a “modern” design. But before I could create a “modern” space I was forced to ponder this question: What exactly IS modern design?
The word doesn’t mean the same thing to every person and most of us have different interpretations of this type of design.
Modern design, as most of us know it, dates … (2 comments)

Scarlett O'Hara Inspired Color Pallette at THE NEXT COOL THING - 01/18/11 10:42 PM
Many of the scenes in "Gone With the Wind" are memorable and what seems to define those scenes is Scarlett O'Hara's wardrobe.
It was not only the furnishings and lavish décor that littered the set of the movie that moved us. The costumes that Scarlett wore also inspired us in designing our modern space within the "Gone With the Wind" exhibit at THE NEXT COOL THING.
What specifically motivated us was the infamous "inappropriate" garnet gown. You know the one.
The garnet gown with its feathers, rhinestones, and low cut neck line inspired me to choose bold red accents for the room in honor of the … (0 comments)

THE NEXT COOL THING-Choosing the Furnishings - 01/18/11 07:23 AM
As the industry event, THE NEXT COOL THING, draws near many have asked how I decided on the furnishings and décor for the modern space within the "Gone With the Wind" exhibit.
The film will always be remembered for its spectacular color schemes and set design. It will always be remembered as one of the greatest and most elaborately made movies of all time. For that reason it was a daunting task to try and create a space inspired by such a grand film.
As you know, our side of the exhibit will be a 2011 version of the interior … (4 comments)

The Next Cool Thing Part 1: How everything started - 01/14/11 11:07 AM
The next couple of days I will blog about the process and progress of the Set  "Gone with the Wind" we are creating for the event.
All began last October when a creative team around Barbara English announced that the "Next Cool Thing" a creative showcase of local designers, film industry art department professionals and vendors will take place in January. A three day event featuring exhibits based on film or television themes to showcase local talent and resources for the purpose of building the infrastructure for the growing film and television industry in Georgia.
Followed by a networking meeting … (12 comments)

Design "Then and Now" at THE NEXT COOL THING - 01/12/11 09:23 AM
As you may or may not know the industry event, THE NEXT COOL THING, has been postponed until Friday, January 21, and will continue until Sunday, January 23.
Among the exhibits of the delayed event is the "Gone with the Wind" space that will feature both a historical and modern interpretation of the antebellum home from the from the film. As guests anticipate the opening of the exhibit many have asked what decor from each time period will be used in the Twelve Oaks Plantation inspired environment.
Interior design trends during the 1860s, the time when the movie "Gone with the Wind" was set, were much different than they are now. In honor … (4 comments)
