St. Augustine Inlet Dredging UpdateSt. Augustine Port, Waterway, and Beach District (aka St. Augustine Port Authority) Commissioner Jay Bliss reported that there is $500,000 available for dredging Porpoise Point located at the St. Augustine Inlet and the Intracoastal in Northeast Florida. Some 80,000 cubic yards will be dredged from Porpoise Point, widening the inlet and hopefully reducing the velocities of the current in the area. Plans are that hopefully St. Johns County will get the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) permits to dredge the ebbshoal bars in the St. Augustine Inlet within the week (by the end of April 2011). The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announces that the Crescent Beach Bridge (SR 206) will be closed September 24, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with 20-mile detour. Please avoid SR 206 between US1 and A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway (A1A) in St. Augustine this Friday as the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) will be closed. The Crescent Beach Bridge on State Road 206 will be closed from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Friday, September 24th. During this time, all traffic will be detoured approximately 20 miles across the Matanzas River using the Mickler-O'Connell Bridge on SR 312. The closure on Friday, September 24th is
