This photo of the old Rodgers Hospital on Woodruff Street in Searcy AR was taken by my friend Paula when she was doing a project for 4H as a youngster. Look at the age of the cars! It was owned by Porter Rodgers, Sr., a physician who was loved in the city.

Christian, the Lion. Bring your hanky if you haven't seen this story. - 07/30/08 06:55 PM
This story, true story, about a lion cub bought at Harrods and then reintroduced to the wilds in Africa is making the rounds of the talk shows, news shows, and youtube. I caught a glimpse of it on TV when I was doing exercises in front of the TV. This morning

Self promotion real estate card at year 16 in real estate career. - 07/29/08 07:25 AM
It was the "thing to do" and a good idea to self promote. All of our motivation seminars said to do it. I tried several mailouts, one of which was featured a few days ago. The same friends who'd saved the other one also showed me this one that they'd

Loading cotton somewhere around Searcy Arkansas a long time ago - 07/28/08 08:33 AM
This old photo was supplied by my friend Anita and shows the process of loading cotton on a flat bed truck years and years ago. I assume it is from somewhere around the Searcy AR area. Sure looks dangerous with that man standing apparently under that cotton bale.

Our new Harp's Grocery lied to me about ripe avocados.... - 07/27/08 09:51 AM
A few months ago I wrote a blog about our new store coming to town, Harp's Grocery. I was negligent in that I never went back to take a completed photo of it but it sprang up overnight, seemingly, and it is beautiful. I've been there a few times and

Everybody loves a parade! Old parade on court square Searcy Arkansas. - 07/25/08 07:57 AM
Remember the thrill of a parade when you were growing up. And actually riding on a float or riding a horse at the end of the parade was a thrill. I couldn't ride but I do remember being on a float and wearing some sort of harem outfit.

I love this old card that shows the dirt streets of Searcy AR. It shows the First Methodist Church at the end of the street. The courthouse would be on the left of the solitary wagon and man on the street. I have already posted one with the street looking West. I

Self promotion real estate mailout from 1993. - 07/23/08 01:58 PM
While looking through my old junk, I found this self-promotion advertisement that I mailed out in 1993. That is the year that I went to work for RE/MAX Advantage. Well, the truth is my friends found it and showed it me. They'd saved it because they liked it.
It really

The first jail house in Searcy Arkansas. Looks plush to me. - 07/22/08 07:36 AM
Anita's husband, Robert, has sent me this old photograph of Searcy's first jail. I looked at it and thought it was a mighty nice structure. Look at the fancy brickwork and the elaborate work around the door! It appears to be a nice home with bars.

Mayfair Hotel in Searcy Arkansas White County - 07/20/08 06:23 PM
This old hotel is still in Searcy AR and still being lived in. I don't believe it is a hotel anymore but more of a permanent home for people and office space for businesses. It is within walking distance to our Spring Park, where people used to go for herbal

Just leave an animal in the house as a guard dog? - 07/15/08 07:23 PM
I've just had the most interesting conversation with a fellow agent. With the theft of copper becoming so rampant everyone, I suppose, is trying to protect their house. This agent went to show houses and probably had 14 to show. During the tour she approached a house that she'd been told was vacant,

Growing up poor will make you really conservative!! At least that's my view of life. Plus seeing all the kids who grew up getting everything they could wish for now feeling entitled to everything they could wish for all their lives....at someone else's expense....sorta reinforces that belief.

Judsonia AR. Dirt streets photo. - 07/01/08 07:33 PM
Judsonia Arkansas was a thriving little town in 1952. This shows a picture of the streets much earlier than 1952 when they were dirt. I love seeing the old town photos. Judsonia is just about 5 miles from Searcy, our city of 20,000.
The saddest thing about Judsonia is that
