barbara s duncan real estate remax: Byrd Haven Nursing Home invites everyone to their open house in Searcy Arkansas - 09/04/09 04:20 PM
Some cards come in the mail and they're so pretty and on such high quality paper that we just can't help but look at them and admire.
Here's one.  Searcy Arkansas has a newly built nursing home.  It is located at 2500 East Moore.  For all you Searcy history lovers it is located on the old golf course and right at the Llama Drive entry into River Oaks Subdivision.
The open house is Thursday, Sept 10 from 2-6 pm.  Here's the architectural rendering that is on the card.  A drive-by indicates it is just this fine looking!
OMG!  I'll bet they … (2 comments)

barbara s duncan real estate remax: On the cutting edge? Laughing stock? Hungry? Which is my husband? - 08/15/09 09:39 AM
The comics today had Dagwood and his neighbor trading cards.  Not baseball cards.  Cooking cards!

I couldn't help pointing it out to my husband.
"Look!  You've made the funny papers."
"Whadda you mean?"  He doesn't read the comics.
"You know how you've been watching those cooking shows on TV?  Well, this comic shows that you are either right there in style and doing what every other man is doing OR you're being made fun of."
He loves Rachael Ray and Paula Deen.  I find it hard to believe that he can be watching cooking shows during his spare time.  So my … (23 comments)

barbara s duncan real estate remax: I didn't know our old Rialto Theater in Searcy Arkansas had a basement! - 07/19/09 02:42 PM
On the left in this picture the old Rialto Theater in Searcy Arkansas is shown.  It has had major changes since opened in 1923 as the Grand Theater.  In 1929 it had the name changed to Rialto.
In 1949  it was remodeled to include the addition of a 67 foot high neon marquis.
Searcy Arkansas and White County have enjoyed the Rialto for about 86 years.
There is a movement right now by some residents of Rose Bud High School led by Liz Clark and Julie Chism to take it on as a project and assist in trying to raise funds to … (19 comments)

barbara s duncan real estate remax: Update on golfer's tomato garden and all that HAIR! Add some soap! - 06/18/09 12:23 PM
A month ago I wrote about my husband's four-tomato-plant garden.  Since he is a retired seeming-full-time golfer, that's all he had time to do.  I thought he was crazy when he put hair on the tomato plants.  And for you not to think I'm crazy, you have to go back and read that blog.  It's a continued story.
While rummaging around in the garage I opened a strange bag.  The contents?   Hair!  Ugh!
He has announced that the @@#%!@#$ deer are back at his garden!  They've been chewing on his tomato plants again!!  We had peace and calm and what he … (18 comments)

barbara s duncan real estate remax: Watermelon time is just around the corner. - 05/31/09 04:15 PM

I wrote a blog about my husband's tomato growing a few days ago.  There is nothing that is more anticipated in the South than home-grown tomatoes.
Except perhaps home-grown watermelons!  I'm eating cantaloupe right now and I've always been too fastidious to really enjoy watermelon.
I love this picture but keep cringing as I think of the pretty little outfits that are worn by these children having watermelon juice all over them.  When folks had few clothes and had no automatic washers and dryers clean up would have been a problem.  But isn't it a great old picture!

barbara s duncan real estate remax: Memories of Searcy AR for Memorial Day submitted by Don Thompson - 05/23/09 07:31 AM
I'm reposting this blog from Don Thompson's blog with his permission.
Memories of WWIII remember the Service Flag hanging in our window of the house on North Main across from the First Methodist Church. I lived with my grand parents and the flag represented their son, Alvin Graham. Then there was the terrible day a telegram arrived announcing that Alvin was missing in action. I can still hear my grandmother, Sadie Graham, breaking down and crying uncontrollably. We kept up hope that he would be found alive but eventually we learned he had died on the battlefield in France. Alvin … (10 comments)
