court square: Where was this lady posing in old Searcy Arkansas? I think here..... - 10/06/09 07:27 PM

This picture is showing our queen of Searcy, Corrine Hart, who grew up in Searcy and helped Searcy grow up. She lived to be over 100. She is Anita Fuller's mother and Anita supplied this photo.
Where is she posing? I think it is the statue that is on the Court Square. I went there today and took a picture of Searcy as it is today. I got the statue seat, the lamp and possibly the three windowed building in the background.

I'll wait for my Searcy experts to tell me whether I'm right or not. This picture shows … (22 comments)

court square: Downtown Searcy Arkansas is changing again. Stott's Drug Store. - 05/24/09 03:31 PM

This old photo taken by my friend Paula when she was doing a Girl Scout's photography project is one of my favorite of Searcy Arkansas during the 40's, I think.
I've posted various pictures that she loaned me for my blog.
This photo shows what is now Quattlebaum Music Store and what is still Stott's Drug Store on the right side of the picture which is the South side of the Court Square.

court square: Searcy Arkansas's Rialto Theater, on the court square. - 08/31/08 09:29 AM

Searcy Arkansas has one of the oldest theaters in Arkansas. It was built in approximately 1923 and still flashes its Neon sign as busy Race Street passes within a few feet of its ticket window.
The theater building is owned by the city of Searcy as it was donated to the city by a prominent family several years ago. It is now operated by a gentleman who gets to rent it free because he paid about $75,000 of his own funds to renovate the Rialto.
It's a win-win situation because the building is not sitting vacant. Victor Weber runs the theater … (20 comments)
