first methodist church: Methodist Episcopal Church, Searcy AR, postcard. Fences. When? - 03/21/23 11:02 AM

Methodist Episcopal Church!  Was there a split?
I think we have run this picture before but the card appeared on ebay for sale and I took the picture again.  I could read, this time, the fine print where it says Methodist Episcopal Church.  I had never noticed that before.  So, Searcy Methodist Sleuths, did the church go separate directions?  Did the beautiful Episcopal church in Searcy break away from the Methodist?  Go here https://activerain.com/droplet/dBqb to the older blog that has a much larger picture of the church!  I do love the larger picture!  Could some of the lines across it be electric … (3 comments)

first methodist church: Arch Street, the way it used to be. I liked it! Historic photo. - 01/13/17 04:34 PM

Recognize this street?
It is a great view from the corner of Arch and Spring looking toward the First Methodist Church. Looking carefully you can see Security Bank on the sign, I believe.  The date is not certain but it must have been several years ago.  Car guys can tell the year by the cars in the picture.
It also appears to be a filling station down on the corner in front of the church. Historic pictures are so interesting and enjoyable.  Guess I need to visit the area and take a picture of the way it is now.  Tell us about it … (17 comments)

first methodist church: This card is 100 years old! The Methodist Church pictured in Searcy Arkansas is even older. - 08/12/10 01:59 PM
Found on ebay!  This old card is great and shows two churches in Searcy Arkansas in approximately 1909 when the card was postmarked.
The First Methodist Church on the right has been cherished, pampered, and its historical value perpetuated.  Alas, the one on the left, assumed by me to be First Baptist Church, has been torn down and a new church built.  First Methodist, I believe, dates back to somewhere around 1875 and is located at 304 N Main Street.  Perhaps my historians will finish the dates for me.
First Methodist has added on, spread out, and grown but has always kept … (12 comments)

first methodist church: Searcy Arkansas c. 1930 Pershing Service Station and First Methodist Church and a wrecked car. - 02/04/10 11:22 AM

This picture is so interesting.  This was loaned to me by Bob and Anita Fuller.  It shows a wrecker pulling in a wrecked car and dates around the 1930's.  In the background is First Methodist Church.  The filling station was called Pershing Service Station and is no longer there.  I have another picture of Pershing Filling Station on this blog.
I need some of the Searcy experts to tell us what the two story building in the background was.  And is that a man back there in front of the church?  I do love this picture!

first methodist church: First Methodist Church Searcy AR gets a steeple lift, or a face lift. - 01/15/10 01:51 PM
Our historic First Methodist Church on Main Street in Searcy Arkansas dates back to the 1800's and has graced many an old post card or photograph and the front has hardly changed.  It has spread, fattened, or become bigger in whatever way you want to describe but the front stayed the same.
Now they are having some repairs done.  Driving by today I couldn't help screeching to a stop and taking these pictures.
Those guys are pretty high up!  But they had an easy way of getting up there with that lift.  Imagine the ones who first built the church and … (16 comments)

first methodist church: Searcy Landmark, Old and Now. First Methodist Church. Searcy Arkansas - 09/04/08 02:27 AM

Time for another photo of downtown Searcy Arkansas.  The First Methodist Church has stood at the end of Arch Stree on Main Street for so many years.  It is shown here on an old post card that was sold at Snowden's, a 5 & 10 store that has been closed for a long time.
The church, of course, has continued to grow and stretches out over about one and one/half blocks now.  These two pictures just show what is seen from Arch as you drive toward it.  It has always been a lovely old building.

first methodist church: Revised blog showing Arch Steet Searcy AR yesteryear and in 2006. - 07/24/08 12:15 PM

I love this old card that shows the dirt streets of Searcy AR.  It shows the First Methodist Church at the end of the street. The courthouse would be on the left of the solitary wagon and man on the street. I have already posted one with the street looking West.  I have several people contributing to our history of Searcy series (not intended but it has just happened).  I hope we can upload lots of great photos of our White County, Searcy AR area in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned if you like old pictures.  I personally am nuts about … (8 comments)
