We have shown several pictures in the last few weeks that were taken by REALTOR M. D. Faith in Searcy AR. The pictures were taken around 1979 or 1980. Here are two more, pretty close neighbors. Top is one to be loved and cherished, the Legion Hut, that is very historic. Second is (look closely) First National Bank. It is still there.....lovely.....but with a new name. This pretty little house that once had a front porch is on its way down. While driving by I did my usual OMG reaction to seeing this one almost gone. And then I started remembering that its neighboring house was already gone! So, Searcy Sleuths, what was the neighboring house? Ok.....here's the picture. The White County Court House still has the two pictures on line. The one on the left is gone.....with no signs of it left. They are/were both owned by the Dale family and David Dale had told me they were going to remove the rock house for more room (4 comments)
I wrote the following blog about 8 years ago. It was a bit of a plea for keeping the Searcy historic theater around forever. It seems to be happening! These are two new pictures of the lovely old building, now being renovated with the front completed!
Searcy Arkansas has one of the oldest theaters in Arkansas. It was built in approximately 1923 and still flashes its Neon sign as busy Race Street passes within a few feet of its ticket window. The theater building is owned by the city of Searcy as it was donated to (10 comments)
The one above is the earliest known photo shortly after its construction in 1870. It later had wings added on the North and South sides.
This one is by our famous photographer, Paula, who did her Girl Scout duty in the 40's and took pictures all around the town. Note it now has attractive wings added.
