home grown tomatoes: There's no hair on these tomatoes! Golfer tomatoes! Success at last. - 08/11/10 02:36 PM
When I came home today I found this lovely bowl of tomatoes on the kitchen counter.  Not just strung out on the counter in any old syle but nicely rounded in this little bowl with the best sides forward!

In case anyone wants to go back and read about my husband's tomato farming, the blogs are listed in this blog.  They were pretty funny when I had to report on his bringing hair home from the barber shop to put around his tomato plants.  And about his !@#$% words aimed at the deer who sneaked into the yard and ate his tomatoes.

home grown tomatoes: Reliving past glories. I guess there's nothing wrong with it. The tomato king is trying again. - 04/12/10 02:06 PM

Does he ever look happy!  He grew these tomatoes.  I don't remember the exact year and I don't know whether we ate them because he's holding onto them for dear life.  He tried last year to achieve this feat again and failed.  We poked fun at him.
This year it is time to try again.  He's growing tomatoes in Searcy Arkansas but his plan is to get out of that vacant lot where the deer (@#$!%!@# deer as he calls them) ate all his tomatoes before we could get them mature on the vine.  In fact the deer ate … (15 comments)

home grown tomatoes: It's not whether you win or lose but how you play the game. Tomato growing included. - 07/17/09 03:50 AM
To the three or four people who may have been following my husband's tomato growing, I guess I'm making my last report.
From the tomatoes on the right, guess which two were grown by my husband.  Yep, the bottom two.  I'm not sure why he brought them into the house unless he wanted to brag or have them featured.
His tomato growing has been a continued story of #$%$!!^%! and new methods of outwitting the deer and worm population. He did bring in two lovely tomatoes on the 4th of July and we thought he'd won.
I think he's given up the … (32 comments)

home grown tomatoes: He won!! He has tomatoes on the 4th of July! Tomato growing update. - 07/05/09 01:16 AM

I've made fun of my husband twice on this blog site about his growing tomatoes and using hair and soap to scare the deer away from his plants.  He only has 4 plants because he has a full-time golf hobby that disallows gardening.
Well, yesterday, on the 4th of July he was able to harvest 3 tomatoes!
He is one proud farmer!!  He says he got the best of those   #$%^&*!!#!   deer. His goal was to have tomatoes by July 4!  Victory!!!
Now I've gotta figure out whether we can eat them or just admire them. I asked him if he'd kept up … (26 comments)

home grown tomatoes: Our new Harp's Grocery lied to me about ripe avocados.... - 07/27/08 02:51 AM

A few months ago I wrote a blog about our new store coming to town, Harp's Grocery.  I was negligent in that I never went back to take a completed photo of it but it sprang up overnight, seemingly, and it is beautiful.   I've been there a few times and bought lovely things, at high prices for sure because they've got to recoup all the money they've invested in Searcy AR.  What happened yesterday makes me wonder about their integrity.  They lied to me and all their customers about their avocados!
My husband has hinted loudly that he'd like some avocado … (39 comments)
